  1. I am willing to say that if OSU beats Baylor, there is a case for them to be in front of ND. I think a stronger case would have been made if the committee waited for that to happen. FTA: Game control: OSU has five wins by single digits (23-16 over Missouri State, 28-23 over Tulsa, 21-20 over Boise State, 32-24 over Texas and 37-33 over OU), plus two wins that were two-possession games at the finish (Kansas State 31-20, Baylor 24-14). Notre Dame has three wins by single digits (41-38 over Florida State in overtime, 32-29 over Toledo and 32-29 over Virginia Tech), plus three more wins that were two-possession games at the finish (27-13 over Purdue, 44-34 over North Carolina and 31-16 over Southern Cal). OSU’s loss (24-21 to Iowa State) was tight. Notre Dame’s 24-13 loss to Cincinnati was somewhat one-sided. Advantage: even. I laugh at this one when it says advantage is even. I don't see it that way at all. In fact, I see the opposite. 5 single digit wins compared to 3 is NOT an advantage; ESPECIALLY when one of OSU's single digit ins is against an FCS team in Missouri State.
  2. If Fickell is smart, he talks to Freeman to try and get him to stay.
  3. Plainfield HS has openings for two varsity defensive coaches (DB and OLB). No teaching positions available at this time. Please contact Brian Woodard (HFC) at bwoodard@plainfield.k12.in.us if you have an interest or any questions.
  4. That would not be a bad hire. He did really well at Penn State; especially under the circumstances he was placed in.
  5. if cupcake games are the standard, OSU has no edge over ND. I will add again, as far as the CFP Committee is concerned; OSU is only 10-1 right now. No bigger cupcake on a schedule than a team that does not even factor into your ranking. I still don't believe that playing a lower ranked team and beating them should put you in a position to leap frog another team, if both teams played last week. If the committee waited for OSU to beat Baylor this week, the case might be stronger for such a move.
  6. Back to the season talk.........I expected to see everyone move up one spot with osu losing; did not happen.....should have, but it did not. Life goes on. 3 things need to happen; Georgia beats Alabama....and I think it has to be by a couple scores, Michigan loses to Iowa in the B1G Championship, and Baylor beats OK State. Even if the first two things happen, there is a shot. so, now......20 % chance of getting in.
  7. well, I am not sure what Ok State did this last week that caused them to leap frog Notre Dame, but it happened. I did not think it should happen, but figured all along it very well could happen. I am curious to see if any of the news the last couple days factored into it. https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/college-football-playoff-rankings-michigan-takes-no-2-spot-cincinnati-holds-at-no-4-in-new-top-25/
  8. Sounds like a bit of karma to me. 🤣🤣🤣
  9. stirring the pot with this one that said, I like it...he is great at developing QB's; as he showed this season. I like the offense they run, and the way he runs the program.
  10. There are also plenty of fans who are not happy he set the record for wins.......without a title. I agree too that it is that distinction that keeps him below the others. I can certainly see and appreciate what he did for the program. It was a great hire when he got the job. Even he will admit he fell short though. He even admitted it after the win that set the record.
  11. Thinking out loud Should Allen talk to Spencer Rattler? I know the young QB was more impressive for OU this season. Maybe the endorsement deal and hype got to Rattler.......but a fresh start may be just what he needs.
  12. I think his record at Cincy is a critical piece. I don't think people are really looking for innovation. I would say that he has elevated the program with his ability to recruit. Cincy is a tough sell for a lot of young guys. If anyone has been on campus, that stands out. He has been at Cincy long enough to say it's the players he has brought in that have the team in the CFP; regardless of any feelings about whether they should be or not.
  13. I think he is too.....just not sure....I added under ones to avoid, coaches with no head coaching experience. He fits there, right? I know he was the DC at Cincy, but that is all I knew about him. I am curious to see if Kelly offers him the same spot at LSU
  14. Home run: Ryan Day Be happy with: Fickell and Schiano OK with, but would make me wonder: Fleck, Frost, Harbaugh, Chryst Avoid: Bielema, Meyer; guys with no experience as a head coach.
  15. There was some belief that this was a ploy to get a bigger contract from ND, but according to SI.com, Kelly sent a late night text to his team. "Let me first apologize for the late night text and, more importantly, for not being able to share the news with you in person that I will be leaving Notre Dame," Kelly wrote. "Our program is elite because of your hard work and commitment and I know that will continue. I will share more in the morning when we meet."
  16. I know I posted it as a joke, but follow the LSU lead and swing for the fences. Talk to Day. I will throw another name out there some may not be thinking of, but Greg Schiano is worth considering. There may even be a couple more names from the B1G that may be considered.
  17. My guess is that Swarbick still remembers the plane landing in Utah and Meyer sending it back. That bridge has burned, and there is too much baggage with Meyer after that.
  18. I did not think this would happen either https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/32748893/lsu-set-hire-notre-dame-brian-kelly-next-head-football-coach-sources-say
  19. I think you underestimate the mindset of most coaches on the DI level. My guess is there are a LOT of coaches that would be interested in this position. I think people also underestimate Coach Allen himself. He has developed a solid reputation along with a lot of connections.
  20. yep.....$2.67 Million for BK. I would not be surprised to see Jimbo Fisher's name come up for LSU....maybe even Florida. I have to think in the realm of SEC football, those programs are a step up from A&M.
  21. Keep in mind though that the last "right guy" left town unscathed when the investigations started. The violations were significant; as were the penalties. It may have been an ideal job, but I don't see it that way now.
  22. I took screen shots from the depth charts from week 1 and Saturday vs. Purdue. Week 1 is on the left. Not sure if all the differences are due to injury, or if guys just took over, but I do know the week one depth chart was based on the notion that 18 starters returned from last year. The roster on the right was from the Purdue media guide, so the QB change must have happened after this was submitted to Purdue. There are multiple spots where it seems significant changes were made. The two listed as starters at RT are not on the list for Purdue and Jones was moved from LT to RT. The one that jumps out to me is at Center. 3 guys listed at week 1 are not the starter, and Charlie O'Connor stayed as a back up. I point that out because the O Line play was a glaring weakness as the season progressed. It had been solid in the early part of the season though. Losing Carr REALLY hurt, but they lost several backs as well and were giving Spiegel a number of carries.
  23. I would have never guessed that defense and special teams would win a game for this Packers team. But that is what has happened today. While they did make special teams mistakes, the defense did hold the Rams to a FG after a muffed return by Cobb. Rodgers has been ok......not a fan of the long passing game still. Short to medium is what they are best at.
