  1. The real difference with osu is their pass defense. Oregon made them look bad. But now they are getting pressure with just 4, and their coverage is so much better. Stroud has made huge strides as a true freshman as well. God I hate Ohio State lol
  2. I agree here…..crazy thing is 2 of those teams here are going to lose a game. Not saying they deserve it, but the math is simple….. 6-2=???
  3. If the day continues like it has so far, Ohio State has a strong case for moving up in the polls, and could even be number 2. Their strength of schedule is certainly better than Alabama’s. I will be curious to see how much MSU drops.
  4. The plan too was to have a Huntington South, but the community never really grew like folks thought it would, so there was never a need for it. Glad to see they are getting a new stadium on campus.
  5. Throw in the fact that public defenders also push their clients to take plea deals as well. But THIS guy should not be the model for this when you look at the demographics of incarceration rates. A telling stat.........95% of all inmates in prison in the US never had a trial. The "get tough on crime" mantra for the last several decades has driven us to this point....as has the for profit prisons in so many places across the country.
  6. Figured we could put these in one spot as well. Post any assistant openings along with possible teaching openings if you have them.
  7. 3 of my 4 older brothers played at Scecina when Ott was an assistant coach back in the 70's and early 80's. His dedication to teaching and coaching for such a long time is something to be admired. As good of a coach as he is, he is even a better man.
  8. I got the chance to see him play in person a few weeks ago....He is impressive. The first TD he scored was at our end; a nice over the shoulder catch in stride. I got this pic of him just before kickoff
  9. I took some time to think about this one as it has been a couple years since these happened. The 1984 title games were the first ones to be held in the dome. We took a trip to the Colts temporary practice facility to practice on the turf that Tuesday. It was the Colts first season in Indianapolis, and they were still practicing when we were. It was REALLY cold that day and snowing. Hitting the turf REALLY hurt lol. Some of the Colts players came up to chat; most of them wanted to see Jeff George to help their alma maters do some "recruiting" 🙂 . Wednesday morning, we got to practice in the dome. Coaches told us all week to wear old tennis shoes, but even with them, guess who did the first face plant into the turf as we jogged out for warm ups? 😄 The problem was they rolled the turf up when it was not being used, and the adhesive from the bottom side would get on the surface of the turf. But the whole experience of playing there was really cool. The coolest thing from the week, next to winning was practicing Thanksgiving morning. It was a gorgeous day with frost on our practice field. During 2 a days as we brought the 5 man sled from storage, we were banging it into so many things. Our o line coach, Coach Lee Dilk, is yelling at us each time we hit something, and finally says ok, if you guys go undefeated, I will put this away by myself.............he lived up to his word. It took him a while 🙂 One of my best friends on the team, who left us WAY too early in 2000, would look for a 4 leaf clover on the practice field during warm ups, and was able to find one each week of our season....14 4 leaf clovers. As a coach, there have been a LOT of great memories. Being a part of a championship team as a coach was more rewarding than as a player IMO. I stood back to watch the kids celebrate, and it was cool to just take that in. Having a few teams win sectional titles was actually just as rewarding as the State title; especially when we beat teams that had been a thorn in our side for so many years. Beating Dwenger in 2016 stands out among those. Regardless of what kind of lead you build up, those teams were never out of a game. A pick in the end zone saved the game. As there are many great memories, a wise coaching friend once said, your greatest wins will never outweigh your toughest loss, and that has remained true throughout my time as a coach.
  10. Similar conditions in Zionsville that night. I was coaching at Cathedral at the time. Zionsville had the highest crown in a field I have ever seen. The dropoff on the sidelines was bad. If I stood in one spot for a few seconds, I would slide down that incline. I still give my former 5th grade teacher a hard time. He was the white hat that night. We had kicked off and the ball went into the endzone for a touchback. On third down, Zionsville ran the ball toward our sideline. You could see the ball was short of the 30. White hat signals first down. it was close enough for me to quietly say "hey Roger, you know the kick was a touchback right?" He gave me a puzzled look initially, but figured it out later. 😄
  11. The run game won this one. As good as the defense was; the run game kept Wilson on the sidelines quite a while, and when it is that cold in Green Bay, that is a big deal. The injury bug still gets them though. The injury to Gary's arm was UGLY. Really hoping that Jones' knee is ok, but it did not sound good. Props to Dillon for a great game after the Jones injury; the dude is a beast. Bigger picture is Green Bay is currently the 1 seed in the NFC. I would like to see them keep that spot. Their schedule is favorable for them to keep that spot.
  12. Nice to see them beat Tampa today
  13. If OSU is in that means they beat both MSU and Michigan......so that would eliminate those two from the list. I think Cincy's win at ND gives them the edge. If they win out, they are in. I do agree with your 3 locks though.
  14. Kelly actually said in his post game...we did enough....and later I don't think we were ever in trouble. Both statements are accurate. But they still are not doing things that make you think this is a top team, or to just bury a team like this. They will move up one slot with Oklahoma losing. Michigan State has Ohio State and Penn State left and Michigan has Ohio State. If osu plays like they did today, they won't lose another conference game. The most I see ND moving up is 3 spots this season; leaving them at number 6.
  15. This is bad. So many mistakes….penalties, pass drops, turnovers, bad defense….frustrating.
  16. https://www.ihsaatv.org/ It's my understanding that playoff broadcasts are approved by the IHSAA, and they are all posted on this link, regardless of who is doing the broadcast.
  17. I agree with your point, but have not heard or seen anything being promoted.
  18. I thought this was kind of funny. The Polo Grounds seemed to be such an odd place for baseball; especially considering that almost no accommodations were made for the unique shape. The caption for the picture is "Bobby Thompson runs down a triple hit by Ralph Kiner at the Polo Grounds, 1950" My questions: At 483 feet, how was it only a triple? I am guessing the Grounds gave up a number of inside the park HR's? Are the stairs in play? Could the outfield run up the staircase to catch a ball? Is that the bullpen where the door is open? Or the clubhouse? Or a bar???? lol I know at least one of the longest ever recorded HR's was hit in this park, but it was not over this fence.
  19. Agreed...I would also like to see certification taken away from the conferences. The NCAA certifies officials at other levels, why not D!?
  20. Not sure how I let this momentous occasion get by me.......congrats HHC fans on reaching the 100 page milestone. 😄 I kid Now back to your regularly scheduled conversations
  21. That was an ugly game....as bad as Love may have been; it was expected. Mahomes is really off. Packers had plenty of chances; blocked FG, missed FG, turnover on the punt that set up a score. Hard to pin it on 12 missing, but the offense would have been far more productive.
  22. Edit: Lucky to be down just 13-0 at the half.
  23. Special teams have been a disaster in this one; picked a bad week to change the long snapper. Love has been ok; sails too many throws..... They are REALLY lucky to only be down 10-0 at the half.
  24. Taking time out from this until decisions are made by the IHSAA. For future reference, an occasional funny political jab is ok......but repeated comments related.......not so much.
  25. My thinking has shifted regarding this. I made a post about a month ago where I jokingly said no one wants to be in the top ten outside of the top two teams. Looking at things now, let’s throw in strength of schedule. Of the teams in the top ten, who has the most difficult schedule. As tempt said, wins against Purdue and Wisconsin look better. But even looking at Georgia, they have played just two ranked teams, Kentucky and Auburn. What about Bama? Not even as tough a schedule as Georgia, and they have a loss to A&M. I am not saying ND’s schedule is a good one mind you, but I think it stacks up well against the rest of the top teams in the country. So, based on what is going on now, the Irish are actually a top ten team. If there was a year to push for an expanded playoff, this is by far the best year for that.
