  1. A horse walks into a bar. The bartender says “why the long face?”
  2. That rule was put in place as part of their resumption of competition plan, so I have to assume they were aware of the possibility. I believe they felt anything less would “water down” the conference championship game, and potentially damage the chances for a B1G representative in the playoff.
  3. ... or is it smoke? 😅
  4. C’mon man! I highly doubt Wisconsin would cancel because they’re afraid of Purdue. Now they have no margin for error. There’s no more time for rescheduling, and if they miss another one — even if it’s the opponent who cancels — that would mean Wisconsin could not meet the B1G requirement of 6 conference games in order to be eligible to play in the championship game.
  5. We could sure use some good old-fashioned South Bend November weather to greet those boys from South Carolina. But it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen.
  6. In Saturday’s Florida-Missouri game, a cheap shot on the Florida QB on the last play of the 1st half sparked a massive brawl, that ended up with multiple players from both teams being suspended, and Florida coach Dan Mullen being fined $25K for “instigating” the fight by running onto the field and yelling at Mizzou players. When the dust cleared, one of the techniques employed by the officials was to assess an unsportsmanlike conduct foul against every player on both teams. That way, any subsequent unsportsmanlike act would result in disqualification. What do you think of this strategy? Obviously, there were some players on each team that did not act in an unsportsmanlike manner, but the officials painted with a really broad brush. Is this justified? Fair? What alternatives are available? Better?
  7. My hope is that we do things like we used to do. After a hard fought campaign, once the result is in, we all join forces and stand shoulder to shoulder and get behind whomever wins. At bottom, whether we’re Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians, independents, etc., we’re all Americans. I just hope we act like it. Now, I’ll mount up on my unicorn and ride away.
  8. No chance. And us “highbrows” would never get the opportunity to express ourselves, because there’s absolutely no possibility that ND is going to seriously consider a coach who has been featured in stories about player arrests, etc., at two different stops in his career ... I don’t care how many national championships he’s won.
  9. Yes. A ball loose following an illegal kick is treated the same as a fumble.
  10. And yet, here they are again this year, hanging around a playoff spot. Counting this season so far, they're record over the past 4 seasons is 39-6. I was never a Brian Kelly fan. But you've got to give credit where credit is due. And if you and @DT are correct that recruiting rankings have a strong correlation to football success, then he deserves even more credit.
  11. They will this year. Probably 2 of them. I hope.
  12. An interesting argument ... but there is no such rule. This is nothing. FYI, the reason the helmet rule is in place is to encourage wearing helmets that are properly fitted, so they provide maximum protection. If they wanted to, all 11 players in the huddle could take their helmets completely off, and then put them back on before the play without consequences.
  13. I agree with you, @Footballking16 ... if you’re including the NFL. Otherwise, no. The ACC is good this year. But most years it’s a step below, in terms of quality depth.
  14. Are there any potential candidates out there who are “Michigan Men?” After all, wasn’t that the primary criterion when they hired Harbaugh? How’d that work out for you? 😂🤣
  15. Harbaugh is one of those very unusual cases, where he’ll be a better NFL coach than a college coach. He’s already been to the Super Bowl as a coach. He’ll be back in the NFL by 2022.
  16. Got to win the first one. Their 5 star backup threw for 342 yds. today,so he’s no slouch.
  17. Dabo has announced that Lawrence is out for the trip to Notre Dame. No problem. We’ll settle his hash in the ACC Championship game.
  18. Look at Sagarin ratings in the conferences as a basis for comparison, although that won’t help with the “pound for pound issue,” and Sagarin is of limited value as far as the SAC’s “closed” schedule is concerned. Perhaps it’s a question without a clear cut answer.
  19. The excuse-makers, like the poor, will always be with us.
  20. If that’s the criteria, find a way to level the playing field before you start ranking the conferences. The SAC has members playing in 5 different classes. How many other conferences can say that? It certainly enhances their chances of having multiple tournament successes in a single season.
  21. Please. I can debate anything. 😄😂 Sounds like Carroll got a heavy dose of “Bart Ball.” A lot of teams have had a tough time with that over the years. The guy can coach.
  22. Perry Meridian is playing for a sectional championship ... and they are 0-9! I would go out on a limb and say that never in the history of Indiana football has a team ever recorded their only victory of the season in a sectional championship game. ... Of course, they’ll have to beat Ben Davis to do it. But still ...
  23. The reason I asked about the enforcement is that the penalties for the two fouls are enforced differently. Aiding the runner is a live ball foul. It almost always occurs behind the spot where the run ends, so the 5 yd penalty is enforced from the spot of the foul and the down is replayed. If there is a distance penalty involved in a sideline warning, it is enforced as of it were a dead ball foul, i.e., 5 yds from the spot where the ball is at the end of the play, and the down counts.
  24. There seems to be some disagreement on that point. What yardage penalty was enforced, and from what spot?
  25. Sideline warning is Signal 15 Aiding the runner is Signal 44
