EIAC Sectional Round #2
Bobref replied to StinkTownClown's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Which game was this? And I’m digging through my rulebook’s official list of signals, but can’t find one for “questionable.” Are you saying the calls were incorrect? -
NIC Sectional Games Week # 2

Penn with a great goal line stand in the closing seconds, stopping Portage on 4th and goal from about six inches away, to preserve the 13-6 win. -

😂🤣😅😜🤪 You crack me up! -
First, we go to A’s captain and ask him if he’d like to keep the football. Since A got the ball with “clean hands,” i.e., without fouling, they get to keep the ball ... but only if they decline the penalty for the facemask foul. So, A will decline that penalty. Then B will accept the penalty for A’s holding foul during the return. That penalty is enforced differently, depending on where the foul occurred. If it occurred in advance of the end of the return, it’s enforced from the end of the return. If it occurred behind the end of the return, it’s enforced from the spot of the foul. 10 yds. 1st and 10 for Team A. If, for some weird reason, A accepts the penalty for the facemask foul, then you have a double foul. The penalties offset and you replay the down at the previous spot. Simple, no?

I wonder if any of the young whippersnappers on here have the faintest idea what you’re talking about. 😂🤣😀

Playoff Qualification Story (MI)
Bobref replied to a topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Ohio uses the Harbin system. You get points for a win based on the class of the team you beat. You also get “secondary” points based on the success the team you beat has. So conferences have nothing to do with it. But I use Ohio as an example because that’s the system I’m familiar with. There are many, many other systems available for use. My only criterion is that the system take into account strength of schedule in some way, so that W-L record is not everything. -
Playoff Qualification Story (MI)

There it is! Nice to see a qualification format opponent raise the “Northwood argument” again this year. As has been pointed out every year, that Northwood team was easily in the top 50% of its class by Sagarin rating (or any other reasonable system that includes a combination of won-loss record and strength of schedule). So, in the playoff format I have suggested, they would easily have been in. Cinderella is not just dead. She’s had a stake driven through her heart. Don’t hedge your bets. Pick a side. -
The definition of “enough” is “the amount someone else has.” The definition of “not enough” is “the amount I have.” Let the market determine what is “enough.”

I think the real question is not whether a player can profit from the use of his own name, image, and likeness, but whether he can preclude others from doing so. If I can prevent the University from selling jerseys with my name on them, then I can enter into a license agreement with the University, which greatly enhances my ability to profit from the use of my name.

10-0 Boone Grove @ 7-3 Andrean

That may have been their first game after they were fully varsity. But their first ever interscholastic game was at the middle school in Boone Grove vs. Rensselaer. -

The reason Doug said that was that after he explained their plans to me, I asked him: “if somebody runs it back for a TD, do you want to have the ceremony then, or wait until after the try?” He started laughing ... until he realized I was serious. Turned out, I was also prophetic. 😉 -

Speaking of Boone Grove, I wonder if @Coach Nowlin remembers the first football game Boone Grove ever played. I refereed that game and it was against Rensselaer’s JV. -
Are there any schools not using Wilson footballs? I ask because for the sectional, schools are “encouraged” to use the Wilson 1003 GST, 1001 or 1005. At the Regional level and above, it’s mandatory. And for the finals, only the 1003 GST will be used.

There are few things more satisfying than traveling to someone else’s place, smacking the snot out of them, and then reveling in the victory on a long bus ride home.

Not just “no,” but “Hell No!”

You should see the kid from Warsaw. He’s better. -

Lafayette Jeff Bronchos.... The 6A wildcard
Bobref replied to Staxawax's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
That is a very difficult question to answer in a general sense. In general, if you see a “safety” foul, you call it, whether another official calls it or not, e.g., facemask, horse collar tackle, targeting, etc. The crew members have specific responsibilities and, normally, if you have multiple flags for the same foul you have to wonder if someone is watching something other than their assigned responsibility. But I confess, there have been a few times where I have thrown a flag even though the foul occurred right in front of another official. It’s easy to get blocked out on a play, or just have a bad angle. -

I don’t see enough from that end zone view to call PI. Looked like 2 guys jockeying for position on a jump ball, and the superior athlete was able to high point the ball. But the IBB should not have been called. A Valpo player ran into the “blocker,” and when he fell forward, he hit another Valpo kid in the back. That’s why you have to see the whole play before you call that foul. -
I think it’s a chicken and egg thing. After all, he can only coach the players he has. It is pretty clear when ND goes up against the likes of Bama, Clemson, Georgia and Ohio State that they are being “out-athleted” more than they are being outcoached. At least, that’s what it seems to me. There’s only so much you can do with schemes.

Kelly is a good coach, no doubt about it. It becomes a question of whether filling the stadium every game and winning 10 games a year is enough. It would be for most people. But it’s clear by now - with a relatively large sample size - that he is unable to win the really significant games needed to push the Irish to the level of Alabama, Clemson, Oklahoma, etc. Remember, “good is the enemy of better.” And I have no “St. X ties.” I went to Lakewood St. Edward. St. X is a sworn enemy.

Just like Indiana fans are spoiled by the all in playoff format.

You do know that Meyer spent 4 seasons as an assistant at ND under Lou Holtz, right? He’s quite familiar with the culture at Notre Dame, and they are familiar with him. I just don’t think that he wants to have a hand tied behind his back as far as recruiting goes.
-
Wow, you are really adept at reading things into what other people say. Scroll down a couple of posts to where I say I’d take him in a minute. Would I do that if I thought he was unethical, or a “villain?” He’s not. He just knows there are restrictions on recruiting at Notre Dame that don’t exist at other places like Ohio State. That doesn’t make him evil. The Notre Dame environment was not what he wanted, that’s all. Clark?
