10-0 Boone Grove @ 7-3 Andrean

Whaaaatttt???? 🥶 -
I’m not too concerned about that. Urban’s problems at Florida and, to a lesser extent, at Ohio State were a product of the people he recruited. The administrative oversight on recruiting issues from outside the athletic dept. is adequate to prevent that from happening at ND. I believe it’s that oversight that led to him turning down the job years ago. But the fact that such oversight still exists probably makes it futile to pursue him now. Having said that, I’d take him in a minute. If there’s anyone who can get us to get to that top level, it’s him. Just as long as there is no compromise of the principles that have long been in place.

Who do you think ND’s first choice was before they hired Kelly? He turned them down because he didn’t want to live with the academic restrictions on recruiting. Nothing’s changed.

Sullivan at Vincennes Lincoln

Assuming that is true, there’s not a back judge in the world — and I’m including the NFL — who can see that at game speed. If you have to look at something frame by frame to see it, it’s ridiculous to expect an official to see it during game action. -
Never seen a game at HH. Pretty far from the Region. But since I’m an observer now and there aren’t that many of us, who knows? I’ll already be in Bloomington for a meeting on semistate Friday. Maybe I can wangle an assignment to observe whoever is at HH then. Think they’ll be home if they make it to the semistate?

Pardon me if I brag on my guys a little, but in those years our crew was really, really good. Everyone knew that the Chatard - Danville game might well decide the state championship (with apologies to@Patriot 74), so the IHSAA took the unheard of [then] step of bringing our crew all the way down to Indy from the Region to work a sectional final. And that game lived up to its promise, and then some.

The only player I distinctly remember was a 2-way player who was a RB and a LB. Don’t recall his name, but I think he went to IU on a scholarship. Man, was he a load! I thought he was the best player on the field that night. One of the most physical HS football games I was ever a part of, and he was right in the thick of it.
-
Sure you can. This is one of those unresolved and unresolvable discussions that makes HS football so much fun.
-
Thank you. That’s great, but I’d like to go back further, if there’s a way to do that.

Jeff Sagarin’s algorithmic ratings system gets talked about a lot on the GID. Does anyone know if/where we can retrieve archived Sagarin ratings from previous years?

Playoff Qualification Story (MI)
Bobref replied to a topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Or any other state. There’s a reason we stand alone ... and it’s not because we’re smarter than everyone else. -
Would a, could a, should a ... doesn't trump what actually happened.

Playoff Qualification Story (MI)

That's your opinion. -
Going to have to disagree with you there. Chatard was #1 and Danville #2 going into that Sectional Championship game. Both 11-0. Heritage Hills was only ranked #2 after Chatard had beaten Danville. Chatard beat HH by 7 in the semistate in Heritage Hills' own stadium. They beat Danville by a single point, when Danville scored with about 20 sec. left and decided to go for two -- and didn't make it. If they had kicked the extra point, we might still be playing. Those two teams were that evenly matched. If anyone knows where I can retrieve archived Sagarin ratings from 2002, I'd be really intrigued to see what they have to say about it.

Indiana Civil Forfeiture Case
Bobref replied to Bobref's topic in Gridiron Out of Bounds's Out of Bound Forum
The civil forfeiture case, in which the Indiana Supreme Court's treatment of civil forfeitures was ruled unconstitutional by SCOTUS, has been remanded to the trial court in Grant County to determine whether the requested forfeiture was justified under an "excessiveness" analysis. In other words, the trial court will determine whether the punishment fits the crime. https://www.theindianalawyer.com/articles/majority-justices-remand-land-rover-forfeiture-case-for-excessiveness-analysis?utm_source=il-daily&utm_medium=newsletter&utm_campaign=2019-10-28 -
Playoff Qualification Story (MI)
Bobref replied to a topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I am long on the record as proposing a top 50% qualification system, which would put approximately 160 Indiana schools in the playoffs. The rest of your post is simply a rehash of the hurt feelings/entitlement mentality which is the product of 30+ years of the all in format. It has been demonstrated statistically in each of approximately the last 5-6 years that such a format will essentially not deprive anyone of anything. I'll do it again this year, but I don't realistically hope to convince anyone with facts. After all, speculation is, apparently, much more persuasive. -
Playoff Qualification Story (MI)
Bobref replied to a topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
If that were the case, there would be ample evidence of it in other states. There’s nothing unique about the psyche of Indiana football players ... except the entitlement mentality that the all in format breeds. In Ohio, for example, 192 teams make the playoffs out of a total of 712, slightly more than 1/4 of the schools. Can you cite a single instance of a school dropping football because of repeated failures to make the playoffs? Anywhere? -
It was 2002 ... and that was probably the best high school football game I ever officiated. The de facto state championship.

House of Horrors ... and I’m not talking about the visiting team. 😜 They still haven’t razed that place. But rest assured, the day the bulldozers come for it, I’ll be in a lawn chair up on the railroad tracks with a six pack, cheering them on.

Please stop with the Cam Newton talk. You can stick a fork in him. Without the run threat, he’s nothing special. And his running days are behind him.

The University’s endowment is the 9th largest in the country, over $11 billion. I think they’ll be OK.

Nice non sequitur.

Sagarin has ND a 10 pt. favorite vs. IU on a neutral field.

Generally speaking, in HS football there is less leeway given for conduct by which a player calls attention to himself, and that is consistent with the philosophy of high school football, as opposed to big time college football or the NFL, which is entertainment-based, as opposed to education-based. Having said that, there is no blanket rule regarding showmanship and unsportsmanlike conduct. Everything is a specific situation, and it is a matter of judgment. The NCAA code has specific examples of acts deemed unsportsmanlike. The NF code does not.

Oh, I caught it. Thought it was appropriate, too. Irish deserve everything they get after that performance. Had a bye week to get ready and healthy, and they absolute didn’t show up.
