  1. I don’t understand how that Warren team lost a game, let alone two during the regular season. Chatard had a great team. But speed kills, and Warren had it in abundance.
  2. And I believe you’re a doomsayer who doesn’t or won’t acknowledge that the vast majority of athletes transferring schools are no problem, and shouldn’t suffer because a scenario like you’ve envisioned “might” be an unintended consequence.
  3. A system of rules designed to accomplish a particular result should not be written to address the “one in a million” situation at the expense of the great majority of students wishing to change schools and continue to participate in athletics without suffering eligibility restrictions.
  4. I don’t know much about Loyola. But I don’t ever recall seeing a St. X team pushed around like that. They lost to a very good Lakota West team (now ranked #2 in Ohio by Maxpreps) 16-13 in week 1, so I would guess they’re not terrible. Loyola must be pretty good.
  5. I watched some of the Loyola - St. X game. Shocking the way X was physically manhandled.
  6. The OT loss to Moeller was the only blemish on the Eagles’ record on their way to the state championship. This year is payback. The Eagles journey to Cincinnati on Oct. 15. That date is already circled.
  7. One of the best venues in the North, without a doubt.
  8. The Eagles have a real test this week. They host 3 time defending Colorado big school champ Cherry Creek, a school of 3,800 students.
  9. There were exceptions made due to the effect the pandemic had on roster sizes, allowing the mercy rule timing to start in the first half. No more.
  10. So, your first conversation with a kid/parent is going to have a confrontational tone? Based on what you were told by the coach whose team he is leaving? That sort of approach seems a bit hasty to me. How about giving a kid a chance to start with a clean slate, and judging based on what you see yourself?
  11. The mercy rule only operates in the second half. Exceptions were previously made due to COVID reduced rosters, but no longer.
  12. I’m not saying he can. But I’ll say he’s got as good a chance as anyone they could hire, and better than most.
  13. Short memories. Mason is 43-26 at MC. Buzea left after the 2006 season. Since then, before Mason came on the scene, they were 12-47.
  14. Forget it. I hear he puts pineapple on it. 🍍🍕
  15. By rule, “The snap begins when the snapper first moves the ball legally other than in adjustment. In a snap, the movement must be a quick and continuous backward motion of the ball during which the ball immediately leaves the hand(s) of the snapper and touches a back or the ground before it touches an A lineman. . . . The snap ends when the ball touches the ground or any player.” If the snap does not conform to these requirements, it is an illegal snap, or snap infraction, and the ball remains dead. Just like a false start foul. Otherwise, the ball remains alive and there is no foul.
  16. Believe me, nobody likes to impose that penalty. But there’s really no judgment involved here, absent extenuating circumstances.
  17. Each team must be on the field at the beginning of the mandatory 3 min. warmup period … although they are not actually required to warm up. Otherwise, it’s a 15 yd. unsportsmanlike conduct penalty charged to the head coach and assessed on the kickoff. At which game did this happen?
  18. Or, perhaps not. Eagles crush Pennsylvania #2 ranked Pittsburgh Central Catholic 42-10.
  19. Or perhaps it teaches them to recognize and take advantage of opportunities to better themselves. Agreed. We can’t have all these kids going to school wherever they and their parents think is the best place for them. Athletic competitive balance is much more important.
