Wouldn't that normally be the case? Historically, Navy is almost always better than IU. I don't think you can compare IU to the service academies this season. If you compare schedules and look at margins of victory, it's a no contest.

Night games in general. Starts at 8pm, which means it will be close to midnight by the time it's over. If it's a close game you feel compelled to stay. Could be 1am by the time you get out of traffic, 3am back to Fort Wayne. Or pay $400 for a room at the Day's Inn, probably the best bet. Shipshewana for around $150, but still. Too damn late for me. Recliner, fireplace, pajamas, restroom and kitchen facilities steps away. Not a hard choice. I'm not 25 anymore.

Sagarin (your favorite), has IU at #11 and Army at #51. I think IU comes within 14 points of Notre Dame. I keep saying I'd rather see a one loss MAC team rather than a three loss SEC team. If you lose three times, you're uninteresting. I guess the only caveat to that would be losing to three Top 15 teams by less than a touchdown each. Sixteen team playoff, no bye weeks. Just seed the best teams 1-16 and don't penalize the independents.
-
I mean damn, you can't really talk about IU and Army in the same sentance with "a straight face," right?
-
Certainly you're joking. Just in the mood for a debate, right?
-
Wait, whoa, what?!?!
-
Alabama fan: IU didn't have any wins against ranked teams. IU fan: IU didn't lose to any unranked teams. Take care of business. Bama doesn't have the right to cry about it.

He, like Woodson had the talent to win at IU. There's a pretty high expecation there and deservedly so. We're talking basketball inside the state of Indiana. No different than Notre Dame. Forget conference championships, they want national titles. When you get a taste for it, there becomes an entitlement. Hell, Nebraska is 30 years removed from a championship in football, but that expectation is still there. Appreciate the fan base. Pissed off like most fans from our state. I think most of us were looking forward to watching to state teams make deep runs. I was hoping they'd meet in the final game. Then............GO IRISH.

No thanks. I spoke with a D1 coach who said Crean treated him poorly at an event. Held his nose in the air when introduced. Not the only time I heard about the guy.

Meh, let's stick with college for comparison sake. Alabama/Auburn is an awful comparison. They're in the same conference, both public schools, and they're rivals. Notre Dame and IU are in different conferences, and they're NOT rivals. Neither Fort Wayne nor Indianapolis have a major college residing in there city. I'm not counting PFW and IUPUI. It's easy for those residents to gravitate toward both, one public and one private. A football power and and basketball power. It's really not that difficult to understand if you really think it through. Why is it okay for high school fans to gravitate toward teams from their area when their favorite team bows out? What the hell is the difference? Notre Dame is my passion, and the only university I support financially on a regular basis, but I root for all Indiana schools. I'm proud of that. Love seeing Thad Matta make Butler relevant again.
-
Thought I'd make the trip for Notre Dame's first playoff game, but not at that price tag. Agree with @Komets2727. And night games are a pain in the @$$.
-
Well, yeah. What's the relevance? We need to move on from this "I'm a fan of this team because" nonsense. And the "you can only root for one team" absurdity.
-
If you're too loyal, you end up with a shitty product. Look no further than the Cubs and the Bears. Sellouts no matter how pitiful. No incentive to get better. Everyone should be bandwagon for what these coaches are getting paid. For instance, Assembly Hall should be empty during games. That might get the University's attention.
-
I still root for Butler....................Purdue, Ball State, and PFW. You do you. Keep shaking those pom poms for Michigan basketball. At the end of the day, these coaches are paid pretty good money. Put a good product out there or cease to get support.
-
Fans from the state of Indiana, especially those who aren't alumni, have the freedom to root for whoever they want to. They were spoiled for years by having the #1 brand in football, and depending on the decade, the #1 brand in basketball. I hate to tell you Temp, but there are fans all over the country who gravitate toward all teams in their respective state. Our fans are no different. Do you think IU and Notre Dame care? Of course not, it's the fans who support the universities more so than the alumni. So the more the merrier.

I'm sure the makes @temptation's day.

But at some point, winning games has to matter. I don't want to see a team who's already failed three times, twice against unranked opponants. If SMU didn't play in a conference championship game, we wouldn't even be having this conversation. So why penalize them when Alabama had the luxury of sitting the weekend out? Damn, before last night their only loss was to a pretty darn good BYU team. Most of their games they won in convincing form. It would be an atrocity for the committe to leave them out in favor of Bama. I do think games in the latter half of the season should hold a bit more weight than games in the first half of the season. So yeah, it wouldn't hurt my feelings to see Penn State over Ohio State...........unless the only thing that matters is the eye test. Using the eye test, I'd say that Ohio State is a little better than Penn State. But if body of work over the course of the season matters more, than maybe you have to give Penn State the nod. Afterall, they earned their way to the championship game while Ohio State was watching from home. Again, do you punish a team for play in a championship game?
-
What have you done lately? Ohio State lost at home to Michigan. So I don't see it being off the wall to place Penn State in front of the Buckeyes. Didn't Penn State have the ball inside the Ohio State 5 yard line and somehow come away without points twice. I'm sure the committee will look at those things. EVERYTHING has to be taken into consideration. It's easier for the committe to justify Alabama bumping SMU rather than Indiana. We're talking about the Big Ten vs the ACC. It's a 'no contest.' Look anyone in their right mind knows that SMU should get in over Alabama. But the committee probably has some pressure on them to do the right thing financially for the playoff. We'll see if they expose themselves.

Still though, would you bet life on Marion Local beating Center Grove, Warren Central, Crown Point, or Fishers? I've got things to live for, so I'll take a pass on that. Let's come to an agreement. Cal Preps is wrong and, and at best, Marion Local could potentially be a Top 10 team in Indiana. Can't beleive I'd actually agree with this being that there are less than 200 boys in their school, unless there's something I'm missing. Rural school right? At the mercy of the kids they have in their local farm community?

Gotta love watching Saban defend why his Tide deserves to be in the playoffs.
