6A Tournament Discussion

Never heard of that guy, I guess anything is possible. -
Not saying I disagree, but Notre Dame is about the run the table against the eleven best teams on their schedule. Pretty much got to ignore the NIU loss in terms of how good Notre Dame is. Of course it won't be ignored if ND loses again. I'm not sure going 12-0 vs 11-1 is going to have much impact on where ND is placed in the playoffs.

Possibly. They looked pretty good in the second half against Elkhart without him. Obviously he's not a player you want to lose, but they have depth at the DB position. -
Notre Dame has so many impressive wins now over quality opponents, I think NIU is becoming a non-factor. Of course if they blow one of these games then they are out.

I'm either blind or have poor judgment in talent, but they seemed to have athletes all over the field. Some of those jump balls were won as a result of pure athleticism. Reminded me of Warren Central with the talented defensive line. Offenses were similar in my opinion. Good athletes on that side of the ball, but had trouble putting it together. It took Warren Central 2.5 quarters to find the scoreboard. I think Snider has one of the best defenses in 6A. But to Elkhart's credit, so do they. The way Concord handled North Side last night makes the one point loss to them look pretty good. -
Tempted, no pun intended. I'm just going by what I saw in person. I really don't see much difference between Warren and Elkhart. Again, I give Warren the edge. Look, Elkhart could make a case for being a Top 10 team in 6A. They have the defense and they have the athletes. Lot's of similarities to Warren Central. Gimmie Warren Central 17-7 over Elkhart. They just happened to play another Top 5 defense.

I've seen a lot of football over the years. That's a good defense Elkhart has. Maybe I should do some research on the Indy schools before making my claim, but I think I'd be hard pressed to find five defenses that are better than theirs. If Warren Central is #1, then Elkhart is, without a doubt, Top 5. I see a lot of similarities. Now, I'm not saying Elkhart is a Top Ten 6A team. Maybe they are, maybe they aren't, but that defense is legit.

Another Top 5 defense in my opinion. -
Yes, slight. Elkhart's defense is better than Carroll. HSE wouldn't score 45 against Elkhart. Center Grove wouldn't have 28 first half points against Elkhart. North Side wouldn't score 22 points against Elkhart. Defense is legit.

South Adams was down 32-6 at halftime last night. It's important for teams to understand that a game lasts four quarters. South Adams won. -
I'm convinced Elkhart is a Top 25 team after seeing them in person. I'd bet their defense alone is Top 5. Having seen both teams, I'd give Warren Central a slight nod over Elkhart.

I think one could conclude that they were an onside kick away from really making HSE fans sweat. Maybe you're right about running the ball, taking care of business, and getting on the bus early. If they watched Snider/Homestead film, they probably concluded that they could run the ball and go home. -

I don't know, I wasn't there. But even if Homestead lost 20-0, I'd say "good job." No one expected this game to be competitive, yet Homestead held HSE to only two touchdowns. -

Passing doesn't count? No one is saying that Homestead is as good as HSE, just that they put up a fight considering most on here was expecting a running clock. You can run the football up and down the field all you want, but it does you no good if you can't get it to the house. Kudos to the Homestead defense. -

Elkhart's defense was good, as advertised. Right up there with Warren Central to be honest. The teams were evenly matched in my opinion, in fact, I thought Elkhart looked like the better team in the first half. Snider was just a little bit better in the second half, and that was the difference. -

Pretty impressive of Homestead to hold them to two touchdowns and two field goals. Not sure anyone saw that coming. Everyone, including me, calls blowout every time Homestead takes the field against an Indy team. Kudos to them for putting up a fight. -

Penn in the SAC's large division would be pretty legit as long as Penn doesn't mind traveling to Fort Wayne four times per year. -

You part of the Penn program that waxed Snider that night? Shame on you. -

If Snider's thinking about Carroll, they'll be cleaning out there lockers. It was said by someone that this is arguably the biggest game in young "new" Elkhart's history. The opportunity to host a state power from outside NW Indiana. Elkhart's going to be jacked for this game. I only hope that Snider is equally as "jacked" about this opportunity to play such a quality opponent from the South Bend Metro. If they are, then they take it. If revenge on Carroll is lurking in their minds, there won't be a rematch. -

Good stuff. I don't completely dismiss Sagarin, I check it all the time at the high school and college level. I just think some on here look at it as the "be all end all." There are obvious flaws with the system, like Columbia City being a 9pt favorite over Dwenger for example. But I do think it's valuable for the purpose that you just used it for. -

I think strength of schedule is more important now than it was 20-30 years ago. Back then you only had a handful of teams to worry about. Not you have about 15 teams to worry about. You just can't play a cupcake schedule in 6A and expect to go very far. Success breeds success. Carroll wouldn't be where they are now if they continued in the cupcake conference (by 6A standard) they were in. They grew as a program when they entered the SAC. Same with all the suburban Indy schools. If you want to be the best, you need to know what the best looks like in the regular season. -

I'm a little hesitant. I've seen Snider lay an egg against unfamiliar opponents more than once............regardless of home or away.
