I think the game is dead even. This isn't one of Luers better teams in my opinion. I think LLC can say the same. Being a Fort Wayne guy though, I hope the Knights prove me wrong. Outsiders

Typo on my part. I think Luers is an improved team since then, but I'm not anywhere close to calling LCC the underdog in this one.

Throw that out the window. Luers didn't play Snider or Carroll. Most people around here would have those teams as a 21 point favorite over the Knights. Luers blew threw an underwhelming SAC schedule before getting trounced by East Noble and New Haven. I think this game is about even as it gets, maybe an advantage to LCC.

Those three are great representatives to what the state of Indiana has to offer. I'm still curious if some of the non Ben Davis and Brownsburg guys agree with me. Maybe I'm being too hard on the Giants.

Tons of respect for Ben Davis. I just think Brownsburg was Indiana's best team. If Indiana had to go to battle against the other 49 states, Brownsburg would be my choice to represent. It happens, the best team doesn't always come out on top. I'll defer to some of the other posters on this one...........as long as they're not from Ben Davis or Brownsburg. Like I said, just one man's opinion. Ben Davis is certainly the real deal.

No dog in this fight. Play went too fast for me to conclude anything. One things for sure though, Valpo not making that play had nothing to do with a penalty.

Warsaw jumped all over Snider 14-0 in the first quarter that game. I remember it well.

Don't get me wrong. Snider's a VERY well coached football team, they just seem to always hit a brick wall somewhere. Their achilles heel up until 2013 was no fault of their own. They actually made it to state six times in the big school division, old 5A. They just had to beat a mega Indy giant to host the trophy, and that was always a hard thing to accomplish. Snider had a chance to repeat in 2016, but Westfield found their way back into the game and ended that season. The 2017 team would have one 5A (wait, was Cathedral in 5A that year?), but they were in 6A that season. Last year was the most crushing defeat Snider's ever endured. I think they beat Valpo last year 9 times out of 10. This year I think they'd be an even lock at 5-5 as long as the Vikings are healthy. Without their RB1, I've got Snider 7-3. That being said. Merrillville's a very good football team. They've taken some hits recently over the years against Indy's best, but they're playing in their own weight class now. I think they have a good shot.

But yes, the quality of football goes down after Snider and Carroll. Luers and Homestead are next up. The bottom 6 of the conference was about as weak as I've seen in recent memory.

I've always felt, no different than last year, that Snider had the best team in 5A. They just seem to have a set back now and then. I also said a few weeks ago that Merrillville is flying under the radar. NO ONE was bringing them up in the 5A title discussion. I think they are a dangerous team. I'm also wondering if 5A south might be better than everyone is giving them credit four. I agree with you, I think any of the four remaining can win it. Valpo got their first since the 70's last year. Maybe this is the year of the Pirate.

I mean, it worked. Mishawaka's run game was utterly smothered. Snider was determined that if the Cavemen scored, it wasn't going to be by burning 10 minutes off the clock. Snider had plenty of chances to score touchdowns that game, but came up short twice on 1st and goal within the five. Kudos to Mishawaka's defense for locking down.

Speaking of Carroll............very good football team. Unfortunately they'll never be remembered as such after laying an egg against Warsaw.

Snider made sure Mishawaka's run game went nowhere with nine guys in the box. Turned out to be a record game for the quarterback. Even Snider's Iowa recruit didn't have an answer for that.

Had a great pass game that year, it was disabled severely that night. The "Mud Bowl" is what we called it. Finally went artificial turf about three years ago. If Snider wins state this year, maybe Penn can come see it next year.

If Leo played Kokomo or New Haven today, I think they beat them both by double digits. Definitely playing their best ball of the year.

I can get on board with this poll other than where you have Brownsburg. I think they're the best team in the state and beat Ben Davis 7 or 8 times out of 10. No disrespect toward the Giants, just one man's opinion.

He was going left to right from the Penn point of view. I remember that like it was yesterday. Before the game, Geesman said "this might be the best team I've ever seen on film." In my opinion, that team ranks in the Snider Top 4 of all time.

I'm coming up with 3-2 2004: Snider 49, Penn 7 2012: Snider 42, Merrillville 39 2014: Laporte 35, Snider 7 2015: Snider 56, Kokomo 20 2022: Valpo 22, Snider 21 (blowing snow from the west, homefield advantage negated) Worth noting: Spuller Stadium is one of the only stadiums whose home side faces the west, therefore negating much of their "home field advantage." The home team fights the sun in August and September, and blowing rain or snow in October and November. Inclement weather almost always comes from the west. I'll never understand why the Snider team and fans aren't moved over to the other side. The visitors shouldn't be more comfortable than the home team.

I personally think Mishawaka was like running into a brick wall after a bye week and games against Anderson and North Side. I think they'll be better prepared for Merrillville.

Reminds me of the Snider/Mishawaka game. A good football team is dangerous when you tell them they "can't" or don't give them a shot. I think Crown Point will give a solid showing.
