North of Kokomo :). If I were to place them somewhere, it would probably be right behind North Side. Week 9 will answer some questions for the Wildcats.

Loads of respect for Kokomo. That team they had in 2015 was really good. Their 6'3", 290 lb running back still gives me nightmares.

  2.

Ranking the North: (North of Lafayette)

    1.     Carroll (Better than last year........maybe by two touchdowns)

    2.    Crown Point (Coaching)

    3.    Merrillville (Talent)

    4.    Penn (Yoeman teams are like a yoyo, this one is on the upside)

    5.    Snider (Penalties will doom them somewhere along the way to Lucas)

    6.    Norwell (2022 State Champions 3A - take it to the bank)

    7.    Northwood (New Pal better be ready)

    8.   North Side (The Legends are close, just not close enough)

    9.   Mishawaka (Thinking 5A is the Snider/Merrillville/North Side show could be deadly)

    10. Columbia City (Yep, don't sleep on the Eagles)

Warsaw might take exception to their neighbors being ranked ahead of them.

I still think New Pal is better than Roncalli.  Primarily because Roncalli is completely 1 dimensional on offense.   Granted that dimension is fantastic but it's nearly impossible to beat elite teams when you can't throw it.  Looking forward to that regional match up for sure.

Agree. I'd put New Pal above Roncalli. I also question whether Westfield and Fishers are a bit high and Carmel and Warren Central a bit low. I'm glad Temp is sorting out this mess and not me. It'll be fun to see how all this plays out in the tournament.

  4. Only two games this week could be, I stress "could be", decided by two touchdowns or less.

Homestead at Wayne: I think Homestead is better than what their record indicates. They were near misses away from beating both Dwenger and North Side. The beatings they took from Snider and Carroll were done by VERY good football teams. Wayne has the tools to keep this game under 14 points, but.....................I've got the Spartans by 21.

Snider at Dwenger: Snider is the better team this year and there is no reason to think they can't beat Dwenger by a few touchdowns. But all bets are off when these two meet. Last year they traded games by double digits, but the previous six matchups were decided by 10 points or less. I'll go with history and say.................Snider by 10

So, just to throw this out there . . .

Back in 2005, NorthWood finished a regular season with a 3-6 record.

Had a freshman QB - Skyler Titus.  Not many people gave them much of a chance.

    Panthers win the sectional.

Beat Luers for the regional title on the road.

Beat Griffith then 13-0 Griffith for the semistate.

Then, when not many people other than those associated with NorthWood gave them much of a chance, beat Indpls Chatard 7-0 in the state final.

I realize that this is not 2005.

And I'm not saying NorthWood wins the state title this year.

But (And I know this has been said once or twice before) . . . On any given day!

as always, the game is better

I think this is the time of year fans start to pay more and more attention to how Sagarin ranks teams........with the exception of the SAC and SIAC. And to Nortwood's credit, they are ranked ahead of Warren Central. I can see Rodney's point......sort of. Warren Central's is still a solid 6A team and were competitive with both Center Grove and Ben Davis. Northwood seems to be clicking on all cylinders right now though. I think it would be close.

  6. Carroll FW: This team isn't rich in history and have been average at best since Dinan took over 12 years ago. Last year they put their best ever football team on the field. I never expected this year's version to be better, especially since they lost their three year starting quarterback. Kudos to the Chargers for reloading and continuing to improve. There's a gut feeling this year that when Indy comes calling, they'll give them a game.

But as I said this moment I’m not claiming anything. I think we beat everyone except fw snider

I have Snider and Merrillville as the top two teams in this class right now (no disrespect to the south, just my opinion). I have the two teams dead even. Maybe the difference in this one is the long bus ride. That being said, Mishawaka, Dwenger, and North Side will be ready to end any talk of a Snider/Merrillville semi-state. Snider is 0 for their last 3 sectionals and were wasted by a sub par Saints team just a year ago. Anything can happen. But the north takes it this year.

Seems like all the other classes have leaders emerging.  5A has one big jumble.  Either parity or no one is outstanding.  5A #1Whiteland loses in a surprise, #1 Mishawaka loses to a middle of the pack Northwood.

There has been talk on this forum that the true 5A enrollment schools don’t stack up well against some of 4A/3A schools.

I wouldn't bet on any 3A teams beating Snider or Merrillville. In 4A you have New Pal and Roncalli. But those two would beat most 6A schools.

anyone thinking Northwood can play with WC for 2 whole quarters is out of their minds, what am I reading.

There are a few other teams that I questioned whether or not they could beat the Warriors, but Northwood wasn't one of them. I see your point though.

To Warren Central's credit, they didn't exactly get blown out by Center Grove and Ben Davis.

Thanks for the poll Temp, good stuff.

I don't know man, others seem to agree and I've seen it said on other threads on the board. Not trying to disrespect the teams in the class but I would say its much more naïve to not recognize that 5A as a whole is down this year.

I never thought I'd see the day when Snider bumped down to 5a and Dwenger bumped up to 5a and the class would be considered "down." Losing teams like Cathedral, Zionsville, and Westfield will do that I guess.

  11. I thought we all agreed that Sagarin doesn't make any sense when it comes to three of the better teams in 5a north............Snider, North Side, and Dwenger. So why are we taking that into consideration?

Let's not underestimate the Pirates for losing to a pretty good Crown Point team. Mishawaka might actually be a pretty darn good team. And no one really knows how good Snider and North Side are until the tournament gets here. I wouldn't underestimate them though. "Extremely weak" is extremely naive in my opinion.
