I get it. Notre Dame is located in South Bend. They have tremendous history and residents of Indiana will jump on the bandwagon. Though outside of location, what is "Indiana" about them? I don't see research parks creating jobs across the state with the ND name on them. I don't see Veterinarian's from across the state going to ND for traininng and/or consultations. I don't see medical facilities across the state with ND's name on them. I'd wager less than 5% of their student body is actually from Indiana.

Why wouldn't they jump on the bandwagon? The university is in their backyard and an easy drive for a game.

What is Indiana about them other than being situated in Indiana? All of their employees are Indiana residents. Anyone who supports the university supports the Indiana economy, not Illinois economy. I would also wager that Indiana has the largest percentage of fans inside the 80,000 seat stadium on Saturday. Let's remember, without the fans, Notre Dame isn't what they are today.

I get what you're saying about parks and medical facilities, and if engaged in a debate, Indiana and Purdue would qualify as "more Indiana" than ND. Is Stanford not California? Good luck explaining that one to California residents. Duke isn't North Carolina? You'll have an uprising there. Vanderbilt isn't Tennessee? Georgetown isn't DC? Tell LA residents that USC isn't California, you'll have anarchy. I can keep going if you like.

Last but not least, if you send a letter to the university, it goes to Notre Dame, IN. Not Notre Dame, IL.

It all comes down to the football program. Notre Dame wouldn't be a national brand otherwise. I'm sure Chicago residents flocked to their neighboring state in droves back when Rockne was turning Notre Dame into a national football power.

Notre Dame is not an "Indiana" school though. They cater to Chicago, the East Coast, and West Coast. The Chicago media even treats them as a local team. Last time I checked their published admissions reports an applicant would have a better chance of getting admitted to Notre Dame if they went to HS in Ohio as opposed to Indiana.

    Geographically.................Indiana, geeesh.

I get it, it's a private school. Therefore open for residents of all states equally. It's a national brand for academics. But it resides in Indiana, therefore it's an Indiana school. I bet a larger percentage of South Bend residents identify with Notre Dame than does Chicago. And who else can Chicago identify with? Can you hardly blame them for adopting Notre Dame?

How would an Ohio resident have a better chance of admission than one in Indiana? All things being equal, I heard the same thing about admittance into Indiana.

I wish that Sagarin gave an indication when its score is not truly reflective of all games reported.  For example, in Sagarin, Andrean shows as 2W 2L, but the Sagarin score show doesn't include one of those games.  So that Sagarin score is only indicative of three of their games and, in this case, doesn't account for the win over Crete-Monee.

I'm not sure how Sagarin can account for out of state teams the way it's set up.

For those that put alot of stock in the Sagarin ratings (I personally do not),  the Ratings and SOS do NOT include teams not in Indiana. Andrean beat a good Crete Monee team that was in Illinois 6A SemiState last year so it does not calculate in Sagarin. This is similar to last year when they played Grand Rapids Catholic, MI State Champion.

You can also disregard any ranking of a Fort Wayne team. Sagarin only becomes accurate in the Summit City when the tournament starts.

  6. Luers is looking pretty solid with victories over Concordia and Wayne. They only lost to 6A Homestead by 8 points. The offense is getting better each week and has come a long way since their Week 1 loss to Carroll. This week they have 5A contender North Side. The Legends will be a good measuring stick to see how Luers is at the season's midway point. I'd have a hard time believing that the Knights aren't one of the top five teams in 2a.

  7. Very competitive week. Every game could go one way or another.

Wayne vs South Side - I'm not sure the Generals are in as much disarray as some think they are. Wayne by 21

Northrop vs Concordia - The veteran coach beats the rookie in this one. Cadets by 7

Luers vs North Side - One of three great games on tap. Two Top 10 teams in their respective classes. But I have to go with the 5a school in this one. I think the Legends have more talent and will ultimately be the Knights doom. It seems like Luers just keep getting better week after week and are looking like a 2a title contender. Legends by 7

Carroll vs Dwenger - This game will have a big atmosphere and could be a defensive showdown. Defensively I give the Chargers a slight edge. Offensively I give the Chargers a bigger edge. That equates to a Carroll victory at home. Chargers by 14

Snider vs Homestead - Snider would like to regain their title of Kingpin back from the Spartans. Over the past five years, Homestead earned it and are the current Kingpins of the SAC. Snider is looking like a well oiled machine since the return of Langston, but Homestead knows how to pass their way to victory when they play the Panthers. Snider by 14

Those are Sagarin RATINGS.  To put it in perspective, the two teams you mentioned (Oregon and Arizona) would be approximately 10 points apart on a neutral field.

Not sure where Arizona comes into play. Sagarin has Georgia at #2 and Oregon at #14. Georgia beat Oregon by 46.

  9. I'll get roasted for this, so bring it on and let me have it. It wouldn't surprise me if Marshall goes undefeated this season. If they do, and that's a big if, they will have beaten both Notre Dame and App State. Playoff consideration? Please tell me I'm not the only one who thought Marshall looked like a damn good team on Saturday.

This receipt will go in someone's file............risk taken.

    Agree.

Disagree that Bama drops behind Georgia for a “close” road win while Georgia was bullying SAMFORD.

Is “rankings don’t matter” guy anywhere to be found?

I think you have to look at body of work starting in Week 1. Trouncing Oregon, a team that beat Ohio State in Columbus last year, 49-3 is eye popping. Georgia passes the eye test in my opinion. I get it, this is the one game that Alabama finds a way to squeak by when they could have easily lost. It happens every year. Then they trounce everyone else they play. I'm still ranking Georgia over them this week based on what I saw.

Michigan looks good but I don’t think they’ve done anything to jump Ohio State. Hawaii is arguably the worst FBS team in America and Colorado State just lost by two scores (in a game that wasn’t that close) to a Middle Tennessee State team who lost to an FSC team by 37 points last week. They play UConn next week as well.

Debatable. Eye test. It's obvious I'm not a fan of Day (maybe warranted, maybe not).

  12. AP Poll:

Georgia moves up to #1 and rightfully so.

Michigan should be at #3 in front of Ohio State, not vise versa.

Wondering who gave Ohio State a first place vote. Comical.

Marshall comes in at #26. Just a matter of time before they crack the Top 20.

Notre Dame drops to #36. Not much opinion here.

“Weird I had to spell that out to you”

I asked a normal question and you had to talk down to me in your response for some reason. That’s what made me upset. I simply matched your energy from there on out.

Lighten up old man, try to enjoy the remaining years you have instead of being rude to people on the internet.

You mean like calling someone "ignorant" when you have a differing opinion than them?

Not apples to apples.  I root for Michigan in both sports.

ND football fans root for IU in basketball.

I root for Notre Dame, IU, Purdue, Ball State, and Butler. I don't see anything wrong with that as a resident of Indiana. Notre Dame is my favorite (both sports), but I still root for the others.

Take someone who lives somewhere between Indy and Fort Wayne. Neither IU nor Notre Dame resides in their back yard. Can you hardly blame those people when both IU basketball and ND football are top national brands?

I’ve already acknowledged that Freeman will likely be a good coach in due time. Don’t think he was qualified at the time for the Notre Dame job and he hasn’t shown me anything yet to change my stance.

I'm willing to go 7-5 and hope that Freeman gets better as he goes as long as the recruits continue to pile in over the next couple of years.

How bad of a coach is Marcus Freeman?

He was good enough to make the Oklahoma State game look like an Irish blowout in the first half after all we hear all year was how great Oklahoma state was. ND lost, I get it.

He was good enough to lead Ohio State through three quarters when EVERYONE in the country was calling for a blowout based on all the talent that OSU has.

Maybe human nature took over against Marshall. Maybe the Marshall kids were really jacked up to be playing in South Bend against the most storied program in college football. Maybe the Notre Dame kids were suffering from an emotional letdown after the buildup of the OSU game.

Still to early to through this man under the bus.

I respect their tradition, academics and squeaky clean reputation.  It’s never anything against players or coaches.

This may seem rich because many folks claim the same about Michigan fans but the arrogance of Notre Dame and exceptions made for them in the bowl system is nauseating.

College football may indeed, be “better” when Notre Dame is good but that’s irrelevant to me.  I’ll watch even (and have) if they, or my favorite team is 3-9. It doesn’t take away from my enjoyment of the sport as a whole.

Plus ND fans are flaky.  Start looking for the transition to their excitement about the IU basketball season by the end of the month.

My Marshall/OSU question was tongue in cheek by the way.

Every fan base has their arrogant fans. It just comes with the territory when the team they are rooting for is good. I think it's the entitlement that rich people feel they are deserving of that bothers you the most. I get it, it's a turnoff. I guess I just feel that there is a lot more to the university than the rich people who wear blue and gold to make themselves feel good about themselves.

Why is it ok for a guy from Indiana to root for Michigan, but it's not ok for a guy from Indiana to root for both Notre Dame and IU?

If I’m looking to hire somebody I’m going to interview more than one person. How smart does Jack Swarbrick look right now?

I'll let you know in a couple of years. You're really going to look like an idiot if Freeman rights the ship and turns out to be a pretty good coach.

  18. Just now, Footballking16 said:

Notre Dame didn’t look to hire anybody else. That’s the point. The inmates ran the asylum and ND caved in.

So you're smarter than Jack Swarbrick? I mean, he's the AD at Notre Dame. Now you've really got me curious what you do for a living and what your standing is.
