That state champion coach went 4-5 last year. They’re likely not going to challenge for a state title the next few years.

Temp isn’t going to save you, in fact he’s already hurting your case, lamenting that Warren has already lost two starters to other programs. That isn’t a sign of a program on the rise.

I just think Temp is smart enough to know that you don't hire a championship coach and trend down.

Most coaches don't rebuild and win championships in their first year.

Anyway, whatever happens happens. No dog in the fight.

  2. I don't buy the idea that a team doesn't have a shot without any Top 50 players. Football is a team sport which consists of 11 on offense, 11 on defense, and a slew of others on special teams. Sure top rated players help, but it's not the end all be all.

Why are we acting like Warren is in the gutter? I could have swore they won the whole thing in 2018, correct me if I'm wrong. So they had a few down years, that means nothing. Again, good coach + big enrollment + lots of athletes = powerhouse. Someone keep a receipt on this please.

Temp..........I'm misunderstanding your post. What I'm reading is that Warren had a kid transfer to Cathedral and Cathedral had one transfer to New Pal?

Warren is sub .500 the last two years, lost to LC (scored 8 points) in the opening round of sectionals last year, and is now ducking premier opponents in the state. We have a very different definition of “trending up”.

Warren Central used to be in that same conversation with Ed’s, St. X, and Trinity as to who is the Midwest’s premier football program. Not any more they aren’t.

I guess we'll have to revisit this conversations after two or three years with Kirschner at the helm. He won state titles at Ben Davis, he'll do the same at Warren Central.

Obviously biased here - but the Michigan City at Warsaw game should be a good one to start the season after it has been moved up from the second week slot. This is the 4th game of the series, with the Wolves holding a 2-1 edge.

Michigan City will look to start strong in their follow up to a semi-state run in 5A last year, while Warsaw has high expectations going into this season bringing back a lot of experience on both sides of the ball, including their QB, which is vital in the Bart Ball offense.

    Agree.

    Yes they are...Let's be serious!

Perhaps one of the KY teams is a 'wash'...but 2/3 are better.  And that is NOT a swipe at the WC as it exists today.

Massive? Not buying it. Slight upgrade? Maybe. Only four years removed from a state championship. A proven coach taking over the program. Huge enrollment. Talent galore. Always have been a force, always will be a force.

Carol at Fort Wayne Bishop Luers
Lures is loaded and a solid 2A favorite from the north. Caroll needs to win this game and do what it is supposed to do as a 6A School playing at 2A School, public or private.

Good test for Carroll right out of the gate. This will be the battle of co-conference champions. The Chargers will be pretty jacked up in wanting to avenge their loss to the Knights last season.  Was Carroll just a one year wonder last year? Or has Dinan's program taken that next step? You get the feeling that this team is right on the cusp. Luers will be ready, that we know.

Class of 2024 WR Mylan Graham (New Haven) went to the OSU camp without any offers and comes home with an offer from the Buckeyes. Athletic, fast receiver who trains with same athletic training organization as Austin Mack (Luers, OSU, NY Giants, SF 49ers) in AWP out of Fort Wayne.

Traction AP is the new name I believe. Great program that develops athletes. Do they still complete in the IMG 7 on 7 National Championship?

The head to head beat down by the Wolverines on the Irish should equate to something!

Michigan didn't need the weather or whatever Buckeye excuse. They manhandled the Buckeyes upfront on both sides of the ball. They had more fight & desire that day and it clearly showed.

Michigan's beatdown of Notre Dame in a rainstorm equates to very little if you are comparing the programs over a five or ten year period.

I agree that Michigan was beating the Buckeyes last year regardless of the weather. I think Temp is just being humble.

The Millers will have 3 P5 D1 linemen in front of several experienced running backs and should run roughshod over opposing defenses.

Has that ever happened before? Three P5 D1 linemen on the same team? That's one hell of a line.

Zionsville loses a ton of talent and is rebuilding.

It's a shame they moved up to 6A. Does that mean there isn't an Indy presence in 5A this year?

I see HSE as the next to break thru.  The school will likely break 4000 in enrollment within the next 3 years.  Very strong and deep coaching staff.  They strike me as a bigger version of Westfield-Zionsville, which could be very dangerous when it all comes together.

And from what I hear a pretty darn good team coming up this fall?

No one is rooting for parity in 6A more so than this guy.  I’d love for Carroll/Homestead to prove me wrong…I’m just no longer predicting it.

You give an unbiased opinion statewide, even though you reside near Indy. That hasn't gone unnoticed. Nothing wrong with telling it as you see it. For now, we'll just continue to hope someone from outside of Indy comes to the plate in 6A.

In the past it was always Carmel, Ben Davis, or Warren Central. It's hard to compete with their enrollments. A smaller school might catch two of them having an off season, but not all three. And that's why the big school landscape has been nomitated by them. Now add Center Grove and Westfield to the mix. The standard in Indy had been set, and the two forementioned have caught up. Now a program has to catch all five on a downslide. Tough hill to climb. But hey, get better or get used to it, right?

  12. We completely hijacked HHF's thread on Rising Programs, lol. Meet me over at the Next Level if you want to continue your beat down.

Maybe start a new thread titled Indianapolis vs Fort Wayne so we can discuss our "cute" little football programs in more detail. Maybe we can further look into why Fort Wayne sends more players to the NFL, per capita, than Indy does. Or maybe we can talk about the 7 on 7 team from Fort Wayne who won the IMG National Championship a few years back. Then we can move onto the SAC's 22 state titles by six different teams. Might even be fun to put together Indy's all time team and match it up with Fort Wayne's. Tough hill for FW to climb being 1/5 the size of Indy, might be fun trying though.

ND won an OT game at home in a frenzied environment against Clemson with their backup QB.

Weeks later, Clemson beat ND by four possessions on a neutral field with their #1 overall draft pick under center.

    Substance.

No one said Notre Dame was the better team on a neutral field. They were the better team in South Bend against a Clemson quarterback who setting a passing record.

  14. Winningest programs last ten years:

    15 Michigan 81-42

      7 Notre Dame 97-31

That's quite a difference. The big bad Big Ten isn't that much better than what Notre Dame has faced over that ten year span. Notre Dame was chosen to play in the national championship during that time and was chosen twice by a committee to compete in the playoff. Michigan was chosen one time during the same ten year time span. Winner: Notre Dame. Really not that close.

Come on.  Look at how he performed last year.  That one off was an out of body experience.  ND won in OT.  Far from a formality.

Look no father than the rematch weeks later.  34-10 on a neutral field with Lawrence under center

What does DJ's performance last year have to do with how he performed against ND the year before?

No one expected ND to win the rematch. They actually looked pretty good the first quarter, they just couldn't catch a break and it snowballed from there. The better team won, I get it. On a neutral field, Clemson all day long. The night in South Bend belonged to the Irish...........wouldn't have mattered if Lawrence was in the game or not. Give that to them, they earned it.

Sorry for barging into your hotel room, but I just thought I’d side with temp on this one…. ND and Mich are in pretty much the same boat…. and I think you meant bi-annually, not semi-annually.

Last year they were on the same boat. If you look at program performance over a 5-year span and a 10-year span, the Irish win. Please don't make me dig deeper into this tonight, I don't have time.
