  1. Chatard’s varsity roster is online and easy to find. MaxPreps is wrong...which most anyone making an effort towards being intellectually honest here already knows.
  2. No problem...you are far from the only one...
  3. Well, I will say this. If nothing else has come of our new 1A Champion this year when looking at various social media platforms (including the GID on multiple occasions), it has confirmed to me that Americans no longer know or, apparently, care how to spell. It is “Covenant”....C...O...V...E...N...A...N...T. Geez people.
  4. Ok...so when did DT start writing for the Trib?
  5. The Harrison/Roncalli game was back and forth all the way to the end. One of Roncalli’s closest games of the season.
  6. Looking back at the post season, I really feel like Mishawaka Marian and Concordia were a really CLOSE No. 2 and 3 in 3A last year. Over the last 2 years, other than 2 losses to Cathedral, no other teams played Chatard as closely as Marian and Concordia did in Regional and Semi-State this year. Hats off to the North this year in 3A.
  7. Is it just me that this GIF makes me think of Howie Long?
  8. Joliet Catholic was supposed to make the long trek to Indy to play at the end of August this past season. Quite the haul for them. The Region is like their backyard vs traveling to Indy.
  9. I love Rush...
  10. Hey Coach G! Yeah.....welllll...finally seeing your perspective a bit more clearly. I think it’s the best of an imperfect situation at this point. I hope things are great for you and yours up North and I do miss our little chats....particularly some of the in-game PM/texts. I hope you might be rejoining us more frequently in the future as well.
  11. Unfortunately there are 3 main “problems” with Sagarin: 1. It doesn’t consider out of state games 2. The closed SAC 3. The closed SIAC Nos. 2 and 3 account for roughly 6% (going by memory) of the football playing schools and are problematic for ANY analytical approach until several games into the playoffs.
  12. Just goes to show, Catholics do more with less.
  13. Been there....back when Park Tudor would let us borrow their field for it. Seems both 100 years ago and, yet, just yesterday.......all at the same time.
  14. That we had a season at all.....
  15. Okay...this has been all I could think about when I saw the title of this thread. The only thing missing is Geddy Lee.
  16. Yes, there is a circular inevitability to that thought process.
  17. Actually it looks like Brebeuf is going to be 4A. It’s very possible that there won’t be any P/P in 3A South for ANOTHER 2 years....making it 4 years in a row. Neither Danville or TW appear to be going to 4A this cycle.
  18. I get your point (and I’m not even saying I disagree) but then I look at Publics Columbus East and New Pal and they have managed sustained success (6 years and counting) in the next higher class essentially dominating it along with Cathedral.....they’ve actually had more success than Cathedral in the years they have shared 5A together. Is it fair to compare a 4A sized school (CE and NP) to a 1A or a 2A? Maybe not....but then I see 1A Pioneer who beats 6A Chesterton and barely falls short of a trip to LOS in 2A. There are some Publics that seem every bit as good as P/Ps including their ability to have sustained success over the years. In their case, I think the SF is probably appropriate.
  19. THAT is the quintessential diamond hard fact that is impossible to dance around in these discussions. I am not attempting make any sort of point as to whether there is some exceptionalism as to CYO rather than simply stating that these are “our” (collectively) home grown players.
  20. There is what seems to be a detectable, almost obvious, ebb and flow to your numbers above. In 2014, only 17% of the titles went to P/Ps which meant that certain winning Publics were going to get Success Factored up. In 2015 and 2016, the P/Ps that had been “bumped” returned down and won again. In 2017 and 2018, the P/Ps were bumped “up” again and failed to win in the next class. During that same time for 2 straight years, P/Ps only won 17% of the titles again for 2 straight years. The implication of that is that most of the schools being bumped will be Publics and the P/Ps that failed will return to class of origin.....moreso than any year prior. What is the result of that Public domination in 2017 and 2018? P/Ps (whether existing already in class or returning) won due to the fact that the prior successful Publics had been bumped up due to their success the previous 2 years. The 67% winning rates of P/Ps in 2020 are a direct result of the inordinate success of Publics who were bumped up due to their successes in 2017 and 2018. The Success Factor has “worked” but the “yo-yo” effect hasn’t yet been fully solved.....although the switch to 2 points to stay “up” is a step in the right direction. I would add that it’s always going to take 2-6 years for thing to sort themselves out do to the way the 2 cycles work and how they fall. Again, going to a rolling cycle should allow thing to shake out much more quickly as to results.
  21. I heard/read late Saturday on some media/social forum that it was a neck “stinger” and he would be okay. With that, I have not heard anything official insofar as a press notice, etc.
  22. Well....yes and no as regards the “hate/envy” position. While I think we have a much more informed and thoughtful group overall here on the GID, I’m not sure that means everyone here is. As regards the general public, just take a 30 second peak at the Indiana HS Football Facebook page and it’s nothing but the “hate/envy” crowd screaming at the top of their lungs about “recruiting”, “intentionally limiting enrollments” and “separate tournaments”......and they are LOUD. In a world that seems governed by a few loud (often crazy) voices on Twitter, it’s more than unsettling for me when I hear and see a lot of the stuff outside of here as regards HS football. When those of us who have (had in my case) kids who attended parochials that is likely the 95% we hear from those detractors outside of here. I don’t think anyone here who is associated with P/Ps denies the advantages....but the general public tends to see it as “recruiting”, “limiting enrollments”, etc. which any reasonable person knows isn’t the case. So the question becomes how to address it appropriately and fairly...for everybody (including the P/Ps who don’t care much about football).
  23. Thanks for doing this. Even though folks here are generally better informed my guess is this is still news to many. I would add that what you say here is true for Indy but might not be entirely the same for the other Archdioceses around the state.
  24. Coach, I wouldn’t take anything too personally here. Everyone has pretty strong opinions and often can be a little blunt. I’m not sure if I agree with you or not regarding Dwenger/Zionsville but I definitely know that the game should have been played in Ft. Wayne....which might have made all the difference. With all that, like many here, I was pretty impressed with how Zionsville played against Cathedral.
