I'd concur with all of this. Those that have been around me since the sectional realignments came out know I've not written off VL for a second this year, for all the reasons you just stated. I felt that Sectional 30 was going to feature GS/VL at some point, no matter the draw. They grind out a tough regular season schedule, have great athletes, excellent coaches, supportive community, nice feeder system, etc. I thought (hoped) Friday would be a 2-, maybe 3-score affair and, technically, I wasn't wrong. Tangentially, with the score being what it was and still being where I'd expected/hoped, it sort of reminds me of a quote from Joe Carter describing Toronto's game 4 World Series win over Philly in 1993. Down 5 at the end of 7 innings, the Jays put up 6 in the 8th and ended up winning 15-14 in an overall wild game. He said (paraphrasing here), "They say great teams win those one-run ballgames. Well, this was a one-run ballgame." Yes, I just compared a 1990s MLB WS game to an Indiana 3A first round sectional HS football game. Sue me. π

Gibson Southern (10-0) at Owen Valley (10-0)

I would agree that their current schedule is indicative of who they were, not who they are, as well. Changing that kind of thing takes time and a lot of planning. It sounds like Coach Gibson has the support of the admin behind him, which can help to go a long, long way towards a program's success. I suspect with this monumental turnaround in the program, the community is gravitating back as well. I'm wishing OV the best moving forward. ...next year. Their season hopefully ends in three days. π -

Honestly, VL's reported yardage was nothing more than an intentional clerical fudging. It was actually tabulated well into the red, and GS loaned Vincennes 42 points out of their 105-0 victory so that folks wouldn't think they were running up the score, resulting in a nation-wide "cancelation" of the rest of GS's season by the non-competitive woke crowd. I should know, I was there. -
Not to be argumentative, I mean I like a good grass field as much as the next guy, but when was the last time you saw any measurable precipitation? Hard to tear up grassy concrete.

Temp's 3A Bracket Analysis
Esso Ayche replied to temptation's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
All I know of them is what a great game they played at the Jewell last year. They did have Yoon and Patel (I think I have those names right) graduate, but then again GS may have had a couple guys graduate, too. π The boys on the field have zero control of who they play, but they are winning when it is expected of them. It can definitely be tricky to directly correlate regular season play/record with post-season potential. And getting hot at the right time can be all that it takes to make a big run. All that said, I'd put them in the periphery of the conversation, but still in it. -

Washington, Washington? Surely not the one I'm thinking of. -
How does no one in the SIAC beat the 7th place team in the SIAC by more than 20 points, yet a PAC did? How does the #1 team in the SIAC only beat the 7th place team by 3? So many ponderables.

Still won by three scores? Not sure if they handicap these games at this point.

Cinderella is a myth

Is this anecdotal via GID alter egos, or is there evidence this occurred before the game was already out of hand at 35-10? At least from what I can tell on Digital Scout, Merrillville's starting QB and RB (and at least a couple of the WR's, a bit hard to tell if it was all of them) were still in until at least their second to last drive, which ended with less than 5 minutes left in the game. Now, was there a mass defensive substitution early in the game? Maybe. Seems off to pull out all the D but leave the starting O in. Or did everyone on offense except most of the starting skills get subbed out on offense? Also possible. But if you're leaving your starting QB/RB in to get waylaid behind a JV, I mean a frosh offensive line before heading into the playoffs, you should maybe think about your game planning a bit better. But I do have it on good authority that Merrillville's Junior Football League Flag Football kids got some quality reps in that contest though. From TWO completely different people that support two different teams and aren't actually the same person replying to themselves in threads to perpetuate their own exaggerations and lies. -

A very novel idea, to be sure. A snowball's chance in Hades of happening, but I applaud the originality (I think? At least I don't think I've ever heard of such a system). At first I thought you meant something like a typical or even abbreviated regular season followed by a pool play type of scenario to seed the overall tournament. Again, novel, and fun to think about and discuss. But I've a better chance of shacking up with upcoming divorcee Giselle Brady than this being implemented. Appreciate the idea and you can throwing it out there tho! Sure beats the crap outta me just scratchin my butt and hoping everything figures itself out. Fodder for discussion if good. -
The video isn't available to me, but I'm 99% sure we're talking about the same play. Or at least something that is close enough for horseshoes. Kicked near the sideline, gets OOB, lays down and reaches the ball. I assumed this was still the rule. Frankly, I sorta liked it. Gaming the rules, smart stuff. But I do get why you wouldn't want to penalize the K for otherwise being legal.

Tempβs Top 25 (10/15)

LMAO No, no one in their right mind considers a TOD a turnover when talking about losing he ball or getting it from the other team. Well except you, @Andrean4life, and yourself, @Piratefan101. There were two turnovers b by Merrillville that game, period. It sounds like you are a pretty cool step dad. I'm one myself and I know it is a struggle sometimes to make those tough decisions. That is admirable and obviously not something any of us here on the GID could ever refute. Except... Cue Columbo: "Oh, just one more thing..." I find two things that would additionally keep you from holding down that double agent spy job. The first is neither you, nor your alter ego know when to use the word "their". The second is the proclivity that you and your alter ego both have in ending paragraphs and posts without using punctuation, like this Go ahead, look back. I'll wait. Anyway, I honestly don't know why I'm bothering to call you out about this, it really means nothing to me. I just find it fascinating that someone would go to such lengths to perpetuate *there* [sic] own exaggeration, at best, or lie, at worst. Fascinating. Either way, I'm getting bored with this Columbo business, although I could probably take three minutes to refute this one if I put forth a modicum of effort: ...but you've embarrassed yourself enough for one season. Good luck to Merrillville the rest of the way out. Hope everyone stays healthy and those frosh get plenty of playing time in those tight games.
