  1. Ah, that makes way more sense. But that leads to the question of why S46 and not any in S45 or S47? I know, I know, I'm welcome to write my own if I'm so d*mn smart. I'm sure if I read back through all the season's articles they probably address their geography selections somewhere.
  2. Yeah, not sure of the cutoffs here. Centerville is up there too. And Tri, Triton Central, Centerville are all north of Whiteland who would certainly be near or at the top of this list if the cutoff were in the "south-ish of Indy" area. But many in the northern latitudes of Indiana think anything south of I-70 is Kentucky anyway, so... Fun fodder for debate though.
  3. Hypothetically, and perhaps even un-hypothetically (that's my word, trademarked, you can't use it): 16 Southridge would (will?) beat 14 Charlestown. 18 Triton Central would beat Charlestown. 19 North Decatur would beat Charlestown. 23 Jasper would beat Charlestown. NR Memorial would beat Charlestown. NR Castle would beat Charlestown. NR Boonville would beat Charlestown. The list goes on. Several of the 15-25 would probably give Charlestown a game, if not beat them. But, like Twain said: It is not best that we should all think alike; it is a difference of opinion that makes horse races. ...that said, at least in the article they acknowledge it wasn't the smartest prediction to say Charleston was the best in 3A.
  4. The wrench I'll throw into this just for fun discussion: GS wouldn't be running the "BA Offense" as it ultimately ended last November without a BA-type of QB. It is a bit of an apples to oranges comparison to the current (and prototypical) GS offense, which I don't think many would say is an offense that can't be successful all the way to LOS. If you forced BA to run the 2012-17 or 2022 offense only... I'd argue strongly that they'd have a tough go at making it to LOS. What I mean is, if you tried to fit a round peg in a square hole it won't fit, and vice-versa. TL;DR version: Taking the talent of a BA-type QB and putting it into different skill sets wouldn't preclude a trip to (or win at) LOS.
  5. First preference, with absolutely the bare minimum of thought behind it: Project across seasons. Second and foremost: Projections for every game each week. But I could be persuaded to flip those choices like a White Castle slider on a hot griddle in Hell. (Sorry, been a long week today and I'm already getting punch-drunk. I don't even know what that last sentence means beyond, "Eh, either would be cool.") Unsolicited advice: If you're like me, you tackle the easy one first and get it almost done to then abandon it and dig in heavily into the one you haven't started yet until you have two that aren't done. That's just me, you do you. (Again, see above re: long week today.)
  6. I'm a bit surprised at this line. Granted, I've seen neither of them play any games at all this year, but just looking at common opponents, score differentials, etc. I would have thought this would be a closer spread, if not a pick em at home for the Alices. That's my expert armchair opinion through my minutes and minutes of internet research while sitting on the crapper, so it's pretty much gospel. Either way, S30 is looking interesting. If GS and VL get paired up first round on Sunday, folks up and down 41 are going to be P!$$ED. To put it mildly.
  7. Someone is still holding onto that Chatard thing. Not arguing it, just interesting to see how the cards lay out week to week. I figured all ten to WL.
  8. I'll give you a hint: It is between 1 and 99, and he plays mostly offense or defense. πŸ˜‰
  9. I'm trying to figure out if LB is good... or not. What's up with Almanac Sports? Do they have Lawrenceburg and Rushville in the wrong divisions?
  10. I think the DL is doing their normal DL things. And the LBs are doing their LB things, DBs doing their DB things. They've been pretty lights outs, tbh. The satisfying thing for me is that the O looks to be connecting like we've been expecting for a game like this, which also helps out the D. ...which helps the O. ... that stuff. The offense is getting better at settling into that dual-threat thing we all know and love. QB 10 knows when to pull and when to not. 26 is taking the "nots" for big gouges, plus. The ball gets out to 14 and 9 when it should. 2 is all over the place between rushes, passes, and returns. Plus the only two-way player, I think. There are still things to clean up (aren't there always?), but personally I'm happy with how things were executed on both sides of the ball tonight. MV has some athletes, as I've previously said. They can certainly make plays. I just haven't seen anything yet that puts them in a position to get through S30. I know, I know, tonight's score does not mean diddly squat come October. But I've not been sold on the MV snake oil for the past couple of years, and I've not seen anything to change my mind to date. I always wish our PAC brethren the best (until they face GS, of course), and I hope they can get and sustain success. They have the players, it appears they have the community support, so I don't know what is holding them back at this point.

  12. I don't think Dumfries was knocking the O or anyone on it, just noting some things that Coach has said also. The offense has been performing really, really well and we all can see how close the boys on that side of the ball are getting to being unstoppable. I think it is a shared yearning for their success, not a criticism of the boys. A defense has less to worry about in getting a squad clicking, so I think that is why that side of the ball is looking better at this point, given everyone's experience. Relatively speaking, a cake walk compared to getting the offense firing on all cylinders. The O has so many more moving parts to get right. It isn't out of the ordinary to take a little more time to get everything figured out, especially when so many were on the sidelines all last year, just champing at the bit to get in, grinding out scout team and JV reps. The important thing is they are winning and, more importantly, I think they'll be near or at 100% in late October and November when it counts. They've been tested in the first half of the season and performed admirably when it was gut check time. The O hasn't faltered when it has mattered and, frankly, performed above and beyond where many thought they'd be. I knew they'd be as good as advertised, but then again I've been watching this crew for, oh... a decade or so already πŸ˜€
  13. I concur. And this newfangled forward pass experiment is ruining the game, too. Live Lateral, or Die!
  14. Fact. This archive has to be one of the most, if not THE most, comprehensive collection of state HS football data in 'murica. Admittedly, I've not dug into any of the other 49 states... but I will just go ahead and stick with my initial assumption and never look back. Great work @Rudy!!
  15. Was the delay for the returner taking off after signaling (albeit invalid)?
  16. Anyone watching EZ film knows how to block a GS EP. And it has nothing to do with the long snapper, holder, kicker, or blocking effort. We gotta get it fixed before it costs us a game.
  17. "Rain" is probably a pretty generous term. It misted, but I'm sure from the press box it looked worse than it was with the lights shining down (if you were hearing it on the radio). I'm still wearing the clothes I went to the game in if that says anything. But it was definitely wet, I don't mean to diminish that part. It did get a tad heavier at halftime, but let up again before the 3rd. Admittedly some sloppy play from both sides, and I can't imagine either coach is pleased with the TOs, but a couple were more good defensive plays than offensive errors. But tell that to a HC! πŸ˜‚ Both side played hard and didn't let up. Good game tonight, HH. Still glad we don't have to see you in sectionals this year!
  18. (Note to self: Label my self-satirical humor when in a HH thread next time) 😁 No, sir. I proudly gots me edumacation from the Land of Lincoln. That's a totally different state than Indiana. On a more serious note, how much to get one of those pavers for the HH Hall of Fame Plaza? I have a design idea and a bit of cash burning a hole in my pocket:
  19. 1 of paper = 4 of Coin Game... jackpot! Watching John C. Reilly probably makes me more stupider, but he cracks me up.
  20. Sure is an awful lot of tropical geography in southern Indiana. I thought it was mostly corn fields. 😁
  21. If I'm only interpreting paragraphs 3, 4, and 5 of the Victory Formation procedures noted above and trying to make sure everyone is on the same page... 1. Verify that the B coach is aware that A is kneeling and check on his intent. 2. If he is conceding, then business as usual ("...U and R will instruct all players that the play will be over immediately after the snap, and that all players should avoid contact, on pain of a foul and potential disqualification. However, if the snap is muffed, all bets are off, and it’s play football."). 3. If the B coach tells his players/officials they are firing out, it doesn't appear to be illegal for the defense to play the snap out. I don't know how I could disallow it (unless I were to invoke the God rule, I suppose). If it is their intent to play the snap, make it known to the A coach and players that it is a live snap, remind the offense to protect themselves, remind the B coach and defense that NO shenanigans will be tolerated (to borrow the phrase above... "...on pain of a foul and potential disqualification.") Have a quick whistle when the snap is clean and the knee touches, and stand behind your warnings re: shenanigans. Is there established commentary for the recommended/required procedures for this situation in the Officials' Manual/elsewhere? (I feel like there is, or you wouldn't have asked πŸ˜‰) Btw, that's the most I've used "shenanigans" in one sitting. ...shenanigans.
  22. ^^^Yup. It may be a byproduct of my profession (whole lotta "rules" for what I do), but over the years I've found myself enjoying learning the rules and mechanics more and more. I mean, most of us learn the basics to lesser or greater degrees over years and years of being around the sport and/or through Sunday broadcasts (which can be completely contradictory to NFHS rules), but how many casual fans, or even some (many?) coaches, really have a strong grasp of much more than the basics? Often it is just the little things, like spotting forward fumbles (which I'm glad I un-NFL'd myself from just last Friday). But that could be a big impact play one way or the other if it were to be wrongly interpreted. I know if my job depended on my team being successful (that is, I'm getting paid to be a coach), I think it would be imperative to know the book as well as I'd expect the person officiating my game to know it. TL;DR version... I've noticed I've become less and less critical of all you fine officials the more I learn. There is a lot to know and most of you all do a much better job than you're ever given credit for. (Speaking of which, if any of y'all're doing GS @ HH tonight, be sure to remember that a GS fan really, really respects and appreciates refs and was highly complimentary to the dedication to your craft that you all put in... you know, just sayin maybe keep that in mind once the game starts.) 🀣🀣
