It's still exists although vaunted isn't the word I'd use anymore. -
Carmel Job open
Footballking16 replied to Footballking16's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I believe Carmel needs a complete reset. Have heard horror stories of total dysfunction in the youth leagues and feeder programs with retention being the worst its ever been. Carmel needs a grinder. The enrollment gap between Carmel and the rest of 6A has closed, no longer can they just lineup on Friday and expect to win as evident to these last few seasons. Carmel is very good job and a very high rewarding one at that, but it's much bigger than simply X's and O's. -
Carmel Job open

Carmel shouldn’t handcuff themselves to a local search radius here. This job should attract coaches from all over the place. -
Per the IndyStar, Coach John Herbert as resigned. https://www.indystar.com/story/sports/high-school/2024/11/13/2-time-ihsaa-state-champion-coach-john-hebert-resigns-from-carmel-high-school-job/76270714007/ Herbert had a great run at Carmel, but safe to say these last few seasons have been wildly underwhelming if not downright unacceptable. Carmel is still one of the best jobs in the state, if not the entire Midwest. I’m not sure of the forum rules of commenting on speculative candidates so will wait for a mod to chime in, but Carmel should have plenty of suitors both locally and nationally, and depending on how committed they are could land a whale.

6A Tournament Discussion

To expand on this, here are Sagarin ranks of each of these teams. -Crown Point (3) -Merrillville (10) -Carroll (15) -Snider (21) -Warsaw (25) -Penn (29) -Elkhart (33) -Homestead (50) This hypothetical conference easily becomes one of the best conferences in the state only behind the HCC and MIC and you could make a case it's more competitive top to bottom than the MIC. -

I still maintain that the better 6A Northern schools need to form some type of conference, even if it's for football only. -Crown Point -Penn -Elkhart -Snider -Homestead -Carroll Could add 5A schools like Valpo, Merrillville, and/or Warsaw but this at least leaves you some flexibility schedule wise to maintain old rivalries or play Indy area schools and schools from MI/IL/OH. -
Harbaugh isn’t eligible to coach in college until August 2028 after his 4 year show-cause penalty for level 1 infractions has expired.

They have 4 or 5 high end teams that can compete nationally and produce on average more top end talent than Indiana. But like Indiana, there's only one big metropolitan area in the state. -

They also beat Brownsburg, Cathedral, and Center Grove as well as Cincinnati Moeller who was a large class state finalist in Ohio. I don't think Crown Point would have beaten any of those teams. -

I thought Cathedral would do the same thing on the ground but they didn't stand a chance. LN is a finesse team offensively but they are much, much more physical defensively than you are giving them credit for. They fly around, get after you, and hit you in the mouth. -

LN outclassed Cathedral Friday and didn't even play particularly well. First time in a long team that I've seen a team head and shoulders better than Cathedral. LN is the best team in the state by a wide margin in my opinion and their toughest opponent is going to be themselves. Turnovers and penalties can wreck a team in the postseason and that is something that needs cleaned up because good to great teams will take advantage. -

Not going to get the kind of respect you're looking for with that schedule. I'm sure Crown Point is very good and they will have their chance to prove themselves here in the next couple of weeks. -

I don't think CG is as good as they have been in the past, but I will say this...there isn't a better big game coach/program in the state than Eric Moore/Center Grove. Despite having a defense that struggles to get off the field, their offense is still very legit. I know the winner of LN/Brownsburg does not want to see CG in semi-state, especially LN who has already played them once. I think CG is still a very legitimate threat to win the state title. Way too many people counting out the Trojans who are still the standard program in this state. -
Weird game. Sloppy game, one I’m sure both coaches will lose sleep over when they see the tape. LN won 24-7, surviving three first half INT’s. Cathedral threw a pick 6 near the end of the 2H and lost their QB shortly after to injury and that effectively ended the game. LN scored on a short field to start the 2H and then returned a fumble for a TD on the ensuing drive. Pretty darn impressive to win convincingly as they did given the amount of turnovers and penalties. They clean that up, they are the favorites going forward. Future is bright for Cathedral. Young team that returns a ton next year to go along with a freshman class that might be one of the best to come through when all said and done.

HSE best value, Brownsburg best bet -
So many impressive wins? Yesterday, TAMU lost by 24 to South Carolina and Navy lost to Rice by 2 TD’s. Rice fired their coach on Monday. Louisville is a nice win that looks better after yesterday. Northern Illinois is now 4-4 with a 1-3 record in the MAC, there is no escaping that. ND is going to benefit from a soft schedule to end the year and a bunch of conference teams beating up on each other these next few weeks.

Carmel loses 29-28 to Zionsville. Time to burn it down. -
I'm not sure I'd categorized Jackson's play as bad. IU is in survival mode right now until Rourke is cleared to play and the play-calling definitely suggested a game-managing role...of that I felt he did fine.

I think Cig and staff know QB is the most important position on the field by far and will do whatever is necessary to make sure there isn't a drop off my this year to next. Whether that be Tayven, a portal QB, or potentially the incoming 5* freshman remains to be seen, but I trust the staff to make that decision. FWIW, Cig and staff have dipped into the portal the last 3 seasons(2 at JMU/IU this year) for a QB and have turned the latter two into all-conference player with Rourke likely to receive serious consideration depending on his availability the rest of the year.

They're still aggressively trying to flip 5* QB JuJu Lewis from USC so that will probably play a factor in what they do in the transfer portal.

That they're in a sectional with his historically mid to bad programs such North Central, Lawrence Central, and Lawrence North. Outside LN this year, I wouldn't exactly call that murderer's row. In fact I wouldn't favor either of those schools to win 3A, 4A, 5A in any given year.
