I've seen a lot of Cathedral comebacks, and comebacks against the Irish, but the most memorable comeback came quickly and was stunning. The game was in Cincinnati at Moeller and, and as a common thing back then, the stadium clock stopped working late in the game. That seemed to happen a lot when playing in Cincinnati at that time. Moeller scored late in the game to take a 24-23 lead. Of course we had not idea how much time was left. Moeller kicked off into the end zone for a touchback, which put Cathedral at their own 20 yard line. The Irish QB, Corey Babb, threw a long pass down the field and it was caught at the Moeller 23 yard line. We were told that there was only one second left, so the Irish lined up for a 40 yard field goal. Well, the Irish place kicker had been excused from the team during the previous week and senior Drake Myers was going to try his first varsity field goal from 40 yards to win the game. Needless to say, his kick was right down the middle and Cathedral won the game 26-24. We were later told that Moeller had scored with 17 seconds left in the game. It was a good ride home back to Indy, to say the least!
