Sad News Out of Cathedral today
PHJIrish replied to Footballking16's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
This is truly sad! I didn't know Mario but enjoyed watching him play. You could see that he was a hard working young man. RIP, Irishman! -
No D1 teams should ever have to play on a field like yesterday at Stanford! In this age of Field Turf, it's about time that all D1 school must install Field Turf. Painted dirt ain't grass! BTW, it took the Irish a long while to get into the mood for some serious football. Not throwing the ball to Claypool is a mortal sin, imho!

A Heartfelt THANK YOU to our GID COMMUNITY

I hope all have a blessed Thanksgiving day! I'll hopefully be visiting again next season, the good Lord willing. -
A scuffling first half but a dominant second half for the Irish today. They built on a 16-7 halftime lead and won 40-7. Next up the Irish will be at Stanford next Saturday to close the regular season.

Nice game for the Irish yesterday. They normally have trouble with Navy but not yesterday and this was a ranked Middie team.

The dirt on Cathedral fans, parents ,alum.
PHJIrish replied to southend's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I invite all to attend an Irish tailgate next season! All are welcome, oh and we have trash bags to clean up after ourselves, which we do. -
It was Cathedral controlling the game until midway through the 3rd quarter. The Irish had the ball on the 10 yard line looking like they were going to add to a 10-7 lead, and then the bottom fell out after not being able to finish off another drive. It just snowballed from there. It was a very good season for the Irish that ended in such a sudden fashion that it was head spinning. Orin Edwards was an outstanding QB who had one bad game and that was tonight. New Pal had a lot to do with that with their bend but don't break defense. They got the stops in the red zone. Actually the Irish may have thrown a few passes too many tonight. The running game seen to be in gear but it seemed the Irish just went away from it at times. Spegal is the real deal. No one for many years has run for over 280 against the Irish. He seemed invisible at times. He got outside way too many times and when he did he was gone, or at least got a big hunk of yards. It will be tough for any team to stop him as he went against a pretty good defense and looked like a true all stater. Good luck to the Dragons, although I don't think they'll need it as long as they have #32.

I'm a fisherman. I know where all the good fishing waters are in Martin and Daviess counties. No time for golf.

Ben Davis @ Zionsville
PHJIrish replied to BDGiant93's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
This is a good story! My doctor's son was very sick just a few years ago, needed a bone marrow transplant to help him get well. Well, the bone marrow transplant worked and he now plays football at Zionsville. His name is Camden Cooper, and he went from patient in the hospital to hero on the football field in a few short years. He caught the winning TD against Brownsburg. BTW, it was his only TD reception of the season, so far. Good luck to the Eagles Friday night!!!! -
A lot of silliness, and even some bigotry, in this thread. I really appreciate the interest and I believe it's well founded. This is all about the game. It is one of the most anticipated games in quite awhile. I hope it's a good time for both sides. That being said, these are the kind of games that young men come to Cathedral to play football. Win or lose, and I hope it's win, I hope the Irish play their best, no excuses! It's been a fun season so far and tomorrow will continue to be fun, at least from my viewpoint. I have expectations but I'll keep them to myself. GO IRISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, when I was younger I used to party a lot and I've never been a golfer. My partying now is restricted to the Cathedral tailgate.๐ I love Martin and Daviess Counites!๐

You do have to dress in layers. I wear a t-shirt, a sweatshirt, a hoodie and a coat for my upper being and I wear heavy sweat pants & heavy jeans, hot socks covered by hunting socks on my lower body, and I have what is called a hot seat. I'm quite toasty at the games.

That ain't champagne, that's good ole drinkin' water. I live in a shanty on the far west side of Indy and my vacation place is in Loogootee. All our welcome to burgers and dogs at the best "tailgate" in Indiana.

It's impossible for the players to hear your cheers when you're lounging in your lazy-boy.๐คจ I've seen every game this year and I've been watching Cathedral football since 1953. So you can see I'm quite old. A bit of cold would never stop me from being there.

This fan doesn't think that way!

Believe me, this team takes nothing for granted! They play hard every night, I know because I've seen every game. They may not play well every night but the effort is never missing. And I realize that New Pal is good, and playing at home. The Irish have been in a lot of these games through the years, and they don't always turn out like we'd like them too, like 2009 Reitz Bowl.

Most Intriguing Sectional Final
PHJIrish replied to HoopsCoach's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Brownsburg at Zionsville was pretty compelling! -
I agree with most of what you say but the biggest weakness is our kicking game. Punting has been a chore as has getting the ball deep on kick-offs. PAT's and FG's have not been a problem. This is not a typical plodding Irish team. These young men can run! It's been many years since we played at New Pal, but I'll be out there next week, the good Lord willin'! One further thing. This is not only the "game of the year" it's the annual "game of the century."
