  1. sounds like athletic transfer reasons to me which would be a no no by the IHSAA.

  3. 1 - Yes they are and both will be heavy contenders 2 - As does Hansen on both sides of the ball. Just not as often and not the same position. 3 - he does have half the carries also has half the yards and plays half the competition (my personal opinion). Has a great line, but most great RB's do (name me one great RB over the last 20 years that didn't have a great O-line). Regardless how good Roncalli;s line was. the best in the State was most likely New Palestine's but Roncalli's D-line put them to the test.
  4. No it is not. Regardless they have had a terrific defense for several years now. Their games against Lawrenceburg, Harrison OH (a rival like Roncalli vs Chatard), Moeller, and Roncalli are no cake walks. Just like New Pal regardless what their schedule is they still bring it offensively and defensively and have for several years with close games against: Roncalli, Ev Reitz, Columbus East, etc.
  5. It won't let me edit my post but here is the 4A Statistical leaders for defense I will look up Bowens stats against Merrillville and Crown Point later.
  6. I don't believe I said "win" I specifically said Hansen has made his case for Mr. Football. I 100% believe in that statement. I will say rushing for 358 yds and 5 TD's is very good, I don't think however there is much of a comparison between FW Luers defense and East Central's defense. Both will be candidates. Here are their stats because many may not know Hansen also played defense just not to the extent Bowen did. Offense: Drayk Bowen 242 Carries 1,784 Yards 26 TD 10 Rec 228 Yards 3TD Luke Hansen 428 Carries 3,080 Yards 35 TD 9 Rec 111 Yards 2 TD Defense: Drayk Bowen 90 Solo 54 Asst 144 Total tackles 19 TFL 5 Sacks 2 Int 1 FR Luke Hansen 17 Solo 27 Asst 44 Total 15 TFL 6 Sacks
  7. I fail to see where the news is actually breaking? With no links or story sounds like just a rumor which is frowned upon on the GID. Even if true is it super important or breaking. If the WR were Tyreek Hill, the Safety Ed Reed then I could see it being important breaking news.
  8. I think Luke Hansen has done plenty to make a case for Mr. Football. He didn't manage to carry Roncalli over East Central in the Semi-State losing in OT by a FG 24-21, but he did run the ball 41 times for 204 yards and 3 TD's. Which was a pretty impressive game to me. East Central and Roncalli were very evenly matched and made for 2 outstanding games! Week 9 in St. Leon Roncalli 21 East Central 19 and Week 14 in St. Leon East Central 24 Roncalli 21 in OT. Rushing for 204 yards and 3 TD's against the EC Defense is very impressive, just like Ringer rushing for 150 and Brotherton 75 against Roncalli's defense was impressive. I knew whomever would win that game (East Central and Roncalli) would win the State Championship easily. I also would say it was a 3 team race East Central, Roncalli, and New Palestine (if New Pal's RB had not been hurt) and all 3 of them ran the ball very very well.
  9. I believe the "#" is the teams Nationally ranked and the "( )" is the particular State's ranking.
  10. Agreed 100% it wasn't too long ago that you had Chatard (with Coach Lorenzano) and Roncalli (with Coach Scifres) that ran the ball until you stopped it and occasionally threw a pass. I still have visions of the Roncalli power toss that they would run at you relentlessly with 6 different ways to block it! They were not the only teams with primary run offense. Warren Central under Kevin Wright (talk about a dominant run game just ask @BobrefI think Desmond Tardy extended his crews officiating career by 3 years keeping them in shape against Penn), Sheridan was run heavy, Monrovia (with the belly offense with Coach Hutchins he had a ton of experience with that offense from Coach Harpold), Center Grove (Coach Moore's Wing T it's only been recently they have been throwing the ball around a bit more). Modern offense is definitely the way of spread offense and run pass option. Being able to throw the ball is great some years, when the weather gets bad in October and November some years running the ball is a must. Snow and rain are great to have a run game, but really this year we had a couple of tournament dates where the wind didn't lend well to the passing teams (Regionals and Semi-State). In some cases sticking with a run game would have benefited teams that lost in the Semi-State. Now when you get into Lucas Oil with perfect weather you can have both passing and running, but most teams will just stick with what got them there.
  11. Base Cover 2 is a "Zone" defense. There are variations Cover 2 Man Under (which would be man coverage), Tampa 2 (same as Cover 2 except MLB covers deep middle). Base Cover 2 is a full zone defense.
  12. This is not accurate on Cover 2. In Cover 2 the safeties are in deep coverage splitting the field in half, The corners cover the flats, corners and LB's are playing zone underneath. Cover 5 would be the coverage to have 2 deep safeties covering half the field and the CB's and LB's playing man coverage.
  13. Congratulations to Carroll (FW) on a terrific season. Congratulations to Center Grove on what I would call one of their more impressive seasons. I took a lot of guff for stating that I thought CG would handle Carroll rather easily. It is what it is I only call it as I see it, with Carroll (FW) having that close of a game with Laf. Jeff. (whom Cathedral had beaten rather handily) I felt Center Grove would have no problem with Carroll. It had nothing to do with making the safe pick that didn't even come into my thought process. No matter what HSE was built up to be, they deserved the #1 ranking because they actually beat the #1 team in the regular season. I still am adamant I believe HSE would have lost to Brownsburg by 2 or 3 TD's had Brownsburg's QB (Whitaker) not been injured before halftime and sat the entire half. That being said regardless HSE nor Brownsburg were playing at CG level they had during the playoffs. I know some wanted to bring up CG having a close game with Franklin Central, well FC had a solid defense and their Head Coach Jason West is VERY familiar with CG having coached against them several years at WC. I will say Coach Moore is the ultimate motivator. He stated one thing himself when he stated Center Grove never was ranked #1 this year. They were the defending State Champs yet never were ranked #1 even when their lone loss at one point was to Louisville Kentucky. You better believe Coach Moore likely motivated his team throughout by using this. He also has been on record as saying they needed the loss to Cathedral to use as a learning tool and motivation. Not just the loss itself but likely the way they lost in a comeback 4th quarter fashion. Another motivational tool to make himself, his coaches, and his players better. One of the more impressive seasons by Coach Moore and his staff and coaching their players to be better. BTW what a call and decision to move Thomeson (SP?) from defense to RB after the loss of Wheat. While Coyle may have been a focus, he totally dominated that game. Last but not least for future reference players getting hurt has nothing to do with opposing team just hits harder. I truly hate that thinking. Injuries happen and can happen in a multitude of ways which has nothing to do with the physicality or hitting of an opposing team. Injuries can be freak accidents to be honest.
  14. Cathedral's roster hasn't always been as large as it is now. If you look at their 1992 (3A) roster compared to 1996 (4A) you will be very surprised at the difference. Of course now they have a huge roster.
  15. Thank you for posting that it would not let me edit. I passed up the 2015 loss completely. I was about to edit and include the 1993 loss.
  16. That is a total made up fabrication. Cathedral led at halftime 14-13 and scored 14 points in the 3rd qtr. I've already mentioned the Irish leading rusher Carson Johnson 990 yards rushing did not play due to injury, and top TE Brennan Wooten 484 rec yards 8 TD's was out with an injury suffered against Brownsburg. It was tight early Cathedral took the lead at halftime. The game was never in doubt Cathedral led 35-13 with 10 minutes left in the 4th qtr. Penn scored and got the 2pt conversion with under 2 minutes to go in the 4th qtr making it 35-21. It was never in doubt in the second half. Onward to Center Grove and FW Carroll. Carroll can be a physical team which is right up Center Grove's alley. They love to get physical but can throw the ball when needed and Coy is an x-factor WR. There will be speed and power from CG more so than HSE. Unfortunately one of the fastest players in the State Wheat will not be playing. It will be interesting to see what CG's defensive gameplan will be against Carroll. When it comes to offense CG will run the ball until you stop it mixing in some pass. Their bread and butter is the Wing T (these kids have ran it since they were in 2nd grade). They will line up in some pistol and shotgun and run or pass. Key Offensive player will be Coy in my opinion to keep Carroll honest.
  17. Injuries can happen without a player being hit or hit hard. Twisted ankle, torn MCL/ACL, helmet hits the ground causing a concussion, broken hand / arm putting your hand down. Just because a player got injured doesn't mean the other team hits harder.
  18. The answer is yes. The only schools that have feeders though are Ritter, Chatard, Scecina, and Roncalli as they are the only Parochial High Schools that are part of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. Cathedral and Brebeuf Jesuit are Private schools. Cathedral however from 1919 to the 1970's Cathedral was one of the original Parochial schools in downtown Indianapolis prior to the others being built. After closing its doors Alumni saved it, moved it, and made it Private. Many of the feeder schools now held by the other Parochial High Schools have a tradition of legacy students whose parent, grand-parents, great-grandparents etc went to Cathedral and they follow in those footsteps. There are plenty of kids with D1 potential that have gone to many of the Private/Parochial schools not just Cathedral. The Northeast side of Indianapolis is littered with talent. Cathedral, Chatard, North Central, Lawrence Central, Lawrence North, and Heritage Christian all are in rather close proximity of each other. That is the biggest cluster of High Schools in Indianapolis and surrounding areas.
  19. East Central is 2-0 in State Finals appearances 2017 14-7 over Lowell, 1994 35-0 over Dekalb. Offensively they have 2 terrific RB's in Ringer and Brotherton (both Juniors). IMHO Ringer will be the best athlete on the field between the 2 teams. While the offense is very good the defense is spectacular too. New Prairie has their work cut out for them on both sides of the ball. I look for a 31-14 or 35-14 type of game in favor of East Central.
  20. If Center Grove wins this weekend that will put them at 5 State Championships only 4 behind Ben Davis, Warren Central, and Carmel. 4 is not a large number to overcome. Especially since right now CG does more Reloading than rebuilding. Center grove over the last 10 years (including this year) has 6 State Championship appearances, Carmel 5, Ben Davis 2, and Warren Central 2.
  21. This statement is very tiresome. There isn't 2 million to choose from with Private schools you can stop with that there isn't even 1/4th of that. Aside from that the 1 Parochial School from Indy in the State Finals (Chatard) lists the elementary schools their players attended (there is a grand total of 2 that didn't attend a Catholic elementary school and one of them was a move in from out of state) so much for 2 million to choose from. That is pretty much BS banter from someone outside of Indianapolis and surrounding counties.
  22. On a side note it is a shame that Drew Wheat had a season ending injury his Senior year. He has been a large part of CG's success the last couple of years. Don't get me wrong CG hasn't missed a beat with Coyle, but I never enjoy seeing a Senior not being able to get out there and play!
  23. 100% and the enrollment difference between Center Grove and FW Carroll isn't that large just under 300 students. There are a multitude of reasons I am picking CG over FW Carroll, Coach Moore has a lot to do with that choice. His resume as a Head Coach over the last 28 years speaks for itself, and the platform he has taken Center Grove Football (and track as well) is quite impressive. I have watched it slowly develop after he took the job in 1999. Went 5-5 to 13-2 in 1 year, they have had a short stint of average years. Right now they pretty much just reload instead of rebuild.
  24. By Indy proper you must mean IPS. Yes IPS is terrible busing many years ago killed IPS being competitive in football as athletes were being bused to Township schools outside 465. Indianapolis still has great football teams inside 465. Cathedral, Chatard, Brebeuf, Heritage Christian, and Speedway are all inside Indianapolis or Indy Proper. There is a good history with IPS in the past. The last really good IPS was around 1999 with Arlington High School who went 11-2 (see below). Washington, Howe, Arsenal Tech all had a rich history in football. Washington dies off after Coach Springer retired (McGinnis and Downing weren't only great basketball players but also great football players). So yes IPS is now terrible but not all of the Indy proper is terrible. I asked a simple question and you took it to the max, that's on you.
