Kamala Harris Thread - Will she be the Democrat nominee?

Simple questions?

If the left thinks DEI is such as great program and tend to promote it at every opportunity, then why are they upset when it is used to describe VP Harris when the President himself touted the FACT that his VP pick was going to be a female?

If everything is OK and doing well at the border like the President, Vice President and Homeland Security say it is, then what is wrong with calling the VP a Border Czar, when the President in fact DID put her in charge of border security.

Whooopsie - questioning anything about the current presumed candidate is racist and sexist....

So in today's world with all the new social rules.......We are supposed to forget/ignore all the times/events where the VP actually proudly proclaimed the FACT that she is indeed Indian?

Maybe she should begin every speech or public address with "Today I identify as (insert race here)"......

Everyone knows that Harris was elected as Vice President for no other reason than to reach out to the black vote. It certainly wasn't based on merit. Democrats voiced their opinion in the primary and she got utterly obliterated. In football terms, that's a halftime score of 50-0. And somehow she gets promoted to the Vice President of the United States. Votes matter more than the health of our country. Sad fact.

Trump beat around the bush on that question, I wish he would have just plain said that she was only elected for the color of her skin. Because that's the truth. Now, there are many idiots who would claim that my comment is racist. So I'll also throw out there that Byron Donalds, Tim Scott, and Ben Carson are all more than qualified to hold the position of Vice President. It's not a black/white thing. It's a qualification thing. Among my very own peer group, Harris would be somewhere in the middle in terms of competence/intelligence. Yet here she is, with the right amount of money thrown at smear campaigns and lies about Trump, in a position to be the next President of the United States.

If she wins (fairly), I won't pout like the Dems (mostly modern day fools in Hollywood) did and say childish things like, "she's not MY president," or "I'm moving to Canada." I'll continue to do my best, but sadly sit on the sidelines and watch the continuation of our country's downward spiral. I'll continue to work hard and save money to help stop the bleeding of my children's future.

I'll continue do this regardless of who wins, because nothing of substance regarding the federal government will change.

Meanwhile, Trump walks into a hornet’s nest in Chicago at the NABJ conference which Harris ghosted and just can’t keep his mouth shut.

Biden won this way in 2020 from his basement.  Just let Trump open his mouth and sink himself after we cut up his words.  Harris trying it in 2024.

They aren’t even hiding it anymore.

Wasn't Trump's best moment - that's for sure.....

Sad part is - Trump was speaking the truth with his comment and the MSM simply repeated it without showing the question he was attempting to answer.  Instead the common term now is "False Claim".

The"moderator" asked if Trump agreed with "members of Congress who have referred to Harris, who is the first Black woman of Asian American descent to serve as Vice President as a so-called DEI hire".

He gave an honest answer reflecting on the many times in the past where she seemingly shifted from "African American" to "Asian American" depending on her crowd at the time.  JD Vance said it best by using the term "Chameleon" when referring to the VP.  Apparently its offensive (for a white guy) to use the term "black"....(even though the moderator used it freely, but I guess she is black so there's that....) Kinda tough tough for an old guy like me who was taught in the 70's to be colorblind to accept that we now need to NOT be colorblind.....

Tim Walz Was a COVID-19 Tyrant: https://reason.com/2024/08/06/tim-walz-was-a-covid-19-tyrant/?itm_source=parsely-api

Quote

Vice President Kamala Harris has chosen Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate. Walz was a moderate Democrat when he served in the House of Representatives but veered left during his two terms as governor. He referred to socialism as synonymous with neighborliness, pursued an extremely progressive governing agenda, and earned an F from the Cato Institute on fiscal policy.

Another notable thing about Walz is that he served as governor during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is thus possible to parse his approach to the virus—and that record is extremely disturbing. Indeed, Walz's coronavirus policies were extremely heavy-handed and restrictive; under his leadership, the state endured the pandemic in a fundamentally anti-libertarian fashion.

When the coronavirus was first spreading, Walz was an enthusiastic promoter of social distancing rules. He described the crowds in public, outdoor spaces as "a little too big." He even defended Minnesota's ridiculous hotline for COVID-19 snitches. That's right: Walz's government maintained a method for people to report their neighbors for failing to abide by social distancing rules. Walz insisted in a recent interview that "one person's socialism is another person's neighborliness"; denouncing one's neighbors as insufficiently loyal to government policies is a fundamental aspect of socialism, however.

When asked by Republicans to take down the hotline, Walz responded: "We're not going to take down a phone number that people can call to keep their families safe."

And though Walz instructed police to merely issue citations to people caught violating stay-at-home orders—which is still bad enough—he also maintained the right, via executive order, to issue $1,000 fines and send violators to jail for 90 days. His government maintained that private, indoor gatherings should be limited to 10 people. Outdoor gatherings were arbitrarily capped at 25 people. On July 23, 2020, Walz declared a statewide mask mandate for most indoor spaces and even some outdoor spaces.

"If we can get a 90 to 95% compliance, which we've seen the science shows, we can reduce the infection rates dramatically, which slows that spread and breaks that chain," Walz said at the time. "This is the way, the cheapest, the most effective way for us to open up our businesses, for us to get our kids back in school, for us to keep our grandparents healthy and for us to get back that life that we all miss so much."

What followed was the implementation of one of the stupidest COVID-19 rules: Diners at restaurants had to wear masks while walking to their table and moving about the establishment but were allowed to go maskless as long as they were eating and drinking.

Later, in November and December of 2020, Walz issued and extended orders for restaurants, gyms, and other businesses to shut down. This included outdoor dining service for eating establishments. Over 150 businesses formed the Reopen Minnesota Coalition and urged the governor to relent, but Walz was unmoved.

By the spring of 2021, vaccines were widely available for the most at-risk groups, and people who wanted to protect themselves from the risk of severe disease and death were able to exercise that option. It was only at this point that Walz partly relented and allowed widespread reopening; however, he kept capacity limits in place for many businesses.

These nonsensical policies—the efficacy of which is now doubted by top U.S. health officials—are not unique to Minnesota; in fact, they were commonplace in blue states. But Walz was as vigorous an enforcer of them as any of his Democratic peers.

He was also one of the foremost defenders of a monstrous COVID-19 policy choice: sending sick, elderly patients back to nursing homes where the infection often spread to other vulnerable people, causing a disproportionate number of coronavirus deaths in such settings. A cover-up of nursing home deaths in New York brought an end to the political ambitions of Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who lied about his involvement in this policy. But Walz was a fellow practitioner; in fact, Walz said that it was "not a mistake" to release sick people back to nursing homes. That statement alone reflects poor enough judgment as to be disqualifying for the pursuit of higher office.

Pandemic policies are not nearly as salient today as they were two years ago, and so it remains to be seen whether Walz's record here matters much to voters. But for anyone who considers the COVID-19 restrictions to have been "the biggest assault on our liberties in our lifetime," Walz's veep candidacy should be a nonstarter.

An example of "flip/flop" Kamala -

Back in 2022, she was the tie-breaking vote in the Senate for the "Inflation Reduction Act" which gave the IRS $80 Billion that they used to implement expansion and start the SITCA (Service Industry Tip Compliance Agreement) which will crack down on wait staff to ensure they pay taxes on their tips they receive.  https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2024/08/12/biden-harris-irs-expansion-purposely-cracked-down-workers-tips/

Then - This weekend she claimed (after receiving the endorsement of the Culinary Workers Union) to now support eliminating those same taxes to keep up with Trump's position ....https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2024-election/harris-supports-eliminating-federal-taxes-tips-rcna166124

"We had no idea"  (sure......)

https://nypost.com/2024/08/13/us-news/harris-campaign-editing-news-headlines-in-her-favor-without-outlets-knowledge-report/

Kamala Harris’ campaign team is editing news headlines in her favor — without outlets’ knowledge: report

Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign team has been silently editing news headlines in Google search results to make it seem like major news outlets are on her side, according to a report.

The altered headlines — all paired with a “Paid for by Harris for President” banner — were changed without the news outlets’ knowledge, Axios reported Tuesday.

Nearly a dozen publishers were swept up in the faux headline campaign, including major companies like the Guardian, Reuters, CBS News, the Associated Press and PBS.

US Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris delivers remarks at the Sheraton hotel, in Phoenix, Arizona, on August 10, 2024

Even smaller publications like North Dakota’s WDay Radio also saw their headlines changed.

The ads include links to real articles from news outlets, but the headlines and descriptive text had been edited to cast a supportive light on the 59-year-old presidential hopeful.

For example, one ad that ran alongside an article from the Guardian shows a headline that reads “VP Harris Fights Abortion Bans – Harris Defends Repro Freedom” and includes supporting text underneath the headline that reads, “VP Harris is a champion for reproductive freedom and will stop Trump’s abortion bans.”

Another linking to an NPR story reads, “Harris Will Lower Health Costs,” with supporting text that says, “Kamala Harris will lower the cost of high-quality affordable health care,” Axios reported.

Spokespeople from the affected companies like CNN, USA Today and NPR — all of which have published flattering content about Harris in recent weeks — said they had no idea the companies were tied up in the campaign.

“While we understand why an organization might wish to align itself with the Guardian’s trusted brand, we need to ensure it is being used appropriately and with our permission. We’ll be reaching out to Google for more information about this practice,” a Guardian spokesperson said.

Though misleading, the tactic does not violate Google’s policies because the fake ads are prominently labeled as “sponsored” and “easily distinguishable from search results.”

The shocking report comes as Harris is hiding from the very same press that she is desperately trying to skew in her favor.

The former California attorney general has refused to do significant interviews or news appearances since winning the presidential nomination more than three weeks ago.

The Harris campaign did not respond to The Post’s request for comment.

Tim Walz's Other Stolen Valor Scandal: https://reason.com/2024/08/13/tim-walzs-other-stolen-valor-scandal/

Quote

Tim Walz is riding high on some stolen valor. By that, I don't mean to refer to the false or otherwise deliberately misleading statements the Democratic vice presidential candidate made about his war record (or lack thereof) over the years.

Rather, I'm referring to the unearned enthusiasm he's receiving from housing activists, lawmakers, and the media who somehow have concluded that Walz is a sterling champion of YIMBY (yes in my backyard) zoning reforms.

Business Insider called him a "YIMBY" in a recent headline. California Sen. Scott Wiener (D–San Francisco), a prolific author of state-level zoning reform legislation, applied the label to him as well. YIMBYs for Harris is happy to claim him as one of their own.

What exactly has Walz done to earn this reputation as a YIMBY housing champion? As best I can tell, as governor of Minnesota, he signed a 1,400-page Democratic-passed omnibus bill that contained two policies of interest to zoning reformers in the state.

One requires state officials to study and recommend code changes that would allow apartment buildings up to 75 feet tall to be built with one staircase. The other exempts local comprehensive plan updates from the state's environmental review laws.

Single-stair reform supporters say allowing more apartment buildings to be built with a single staircase (as opposed to the current two-staircase standard) will lower building costs, make more small apartment buildings feasible, and allow for more flexible floor plans—all good things. The study bill in Minnesota's omnibus package is a first step toward making that happen.

The other bill exempting comprehensive plan updates from state environmental review law is a big win for the Minneapolis city government and zoning reformers in the city.

Back in late 2018, the city passed a comprehensive plan update that made a number of zoning changes, including allowing triplexes in single-family neighborhoods, apartments on commercial corridors, and a citywide elimination of parking minimums.

In response, local environmental groups sued, saying the city failed to properly study the environmental impacts of that comprehensive plan update. Last year, a judge ruled in their favor and halted Minneapolis' reforms.

By exempting comprehensive plans from environmental requirements, the Minnesota Legislature is now allowing Minneapolis' local reforms to go back into effect.

So in short, those are two pretty wonky but not insignificant reforms.

But Walz has really nothing to do with either policy.

He didn't make any public statements about them. He merely signed a giant bill of Democratic policy priorities into law. What else would one expect of a Democratic governor?

Indeed, the Center for Building in North America, which helped write Minnesota's single-stair bill, mentions a local architect and lawmaker who worked on the bill. Walz's name doesn't come up.

When The New York Times' Ezra Klein asked Walz earlier this month about the environmentalists' lawsuit that halted Minneapolis' zoning reforms, Walz gave a pretty milquetoast, middle-of-the-road answer that gives no real indication of what he thinks about housing:

We have good environmental laws in Minnesota, and that's the way it should be. We're protectors of 20 percent of the world's fresh water. But we also have permitting that takes too long and makes more expensive doing renewable energy projects, things that we want to get done. I think that same thing applies on housing, that we put up barriers to making it more affordable.

So, basically, Walz said strong environmental laws are good, as is faster permitting of housing, but he had no particular comment on how this was affecting his home state where strong environmental laws had been used to slow down housing permitting. Got it, thanks.

As it happens, this year the Minnesota Legislature considered a range of other bipartisan-backed state-level zoning reforms that would have eliminated parking minimums, allowed smaller multi-unit housing and accessory dwelling units in single-family areas, and permitted residential developments in commercial zones.

They all ended up failing largely because of opposition from Democratic legislative leaders and local government lobbying.

By all accounts, Walz was totally absent from debates on those bills as well.

Compare that to other governors who have made state-level zoning reform a priority and spent a considerable amount of energy getting bills to their desks.

In Colorado, Gov. Jared Polis spent a lot of time and effort writing zoning reform legislation, talking about the need for zoning reform, endorsing individual zoning reform bills, and encouraging the Legislature to pass them.

That paid off this year, when the Colorado Legislature passed a series of bills allowing accessory dwelling units in single-family-only areas and apartments near transit lines.

Montana's blockbuster year for zoning reform in 2023 largely grew out of a housing task force assembled by Gov. Greg Gianforte. Zoning reform supporters in the state also credit the governor for being involved in the legislative process and doing what he could to encourage lawmakers to pass the zoning reforms on the table.

Walz did none of that stuff.

Some media write-ups of his YIMBY credentials mention that he signed into law more affordable housing funding and tenant protections that require landlords to give tenants longer notice before filing for eviction.

Whatever one thinks of those policies, they don't have anything to do with the distinctively YIMBY policy agenda of reducing regulatory barriers to new housing construction.

Giving Walz unearned credit for being a YIMBY isn't just unseemly; it's also a bad habit that YIMBY advocates would do well to break.

When politicians can earn plaudits for doing nothing, their incentive to do something worthwhile is minimal. That's particularly true on an issue like housing policy, where meaningful reform is hard and provokes a lot of heated opposition. Why catch all that flak fighting for zoning reform when the people who really want zoning reform will pat you on the back for doing nothing at all?

Politicians should be held accountable for their actions. Sometimes that means shouting at them when they do bad things. Other times it means not cheering them on when they do nothing at all.

OK - So SF could identify as a Lesbian trapped in a Male's body then?  And I wouldn't be considered as crazy for that - in fact, maybe even be up for a position in the Harris/Walz campaign and celebrated as being a "Diversity hire"?

https://nypost.com/2024/08/16/us-news/harris-campaign-job-seekers-have-9-different-pronoun-options-more-pronouns-than-policy/

Vice President Kamala Harris’ website allows job seekers to choose from among nine different pronoun options when applying for a position on her campaign — leading some social media users to blast the Democrat for having “more pronouns than policies.”

Applicants can select from the more mainstream “he/him,” “she/her” and “they/them” pronouns or choose less conventional gender-neutral options, including “xe/xem,” “ze/hir,” “ey/em,” and “hir/hir.”

“Hu/hu,” which indicates that a person wants to emphasize their humanity over their gender, and “Fae/faer,” which denotes that a person is fluid between multiple genders but not masculine genders, are also presented as options.

Potential hires can also write in “custom” pronouns or choose to go by “name only,” when filling out an application on the Harris campaign job portal.

Job seekers are also asked how they would “contribute to building a diverse culture” and are given the option of completing a diversity survey at the end of the application which asks, “Do you identify as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community?” among other questions.

The long list of pronoun options puzzled numerous social media users, with many indicating that they had never heard of most of them.

Some also pointed out that the list is longer than the policy section on the Harris campaign website.

“Kamala Harris has more pronouns (9) than policies (0) on her website,” one wrote, while another seethed, “#KamalaHarris cares more about her PRONOUNS than our economy or southern border.”

Harris, 59, has long pushed for Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) and so-called “woke” social-justice-oriented initiatives throughout her political career, which has sparked concern from some conservatives that she will pursue those sorts of domestic policies as president.

“We have to stay woke. Like, everybody needs to be woke,” Harris urged during a 2017 conference.

In the clip, which has recently gone viral, Harris adds, “And you can talk about if you’re the wokest or woker, but just stay more woke than less woke.”

Former President Donald Trump, 78, has branded her as a “radical California liberal” since her entrance into the race after President Biden, 81, ended his re-election bid last month.
