Irishman Posted August 10, 2024 Author Posted August 10, 2024 The team rose to the challenge and played tough throughout the Olympics. Steph Curry was unreal in the Medal round games. Quote
Irishman Posted August 11, 2024 Author Posted August 11, 2024 Overcame a tough home team and their crowd, a lot of missed layups, as well as a lot of turnovers. 1 Quote
Muda69 Posted August 11, 2024 Posted August 11, 2024 I recently found out break dancing is now an Olympic 'sport'. Watched some of the women's prelims of this event on Peacock and had no idea what was going on. Guess I am just old. 1 Quote

I thought breaking was no longer a thing I always knew some people should never do it; myself included Seeing this qualified to GET to Paris, just how bad was the competition in the Australian trials? Was a good game. The world is catching up. From the WSJ: "In 1992, Team USA had 11 NBA players; the entire rest of the tournament, just nine. In the semifinal and final rounds, they faced Lithuania and Croatia—who had a total of three NBA players between them." From NBA.com "A record 139 current and former NBA and WNBA players are featured on national team rosters for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. The men's and women's 5-on-5 competitions will feature a record 81 and record 51 current and former players, respectively." So, 20 players from the NBA in 92 to 81 in 2024 (there were 12 teams in this year's Olympics) 1 Quote
Irishman Posted August 12, 2024 Author Posted August 12, 2024 Upcoming for the 2028 Games in Los Angeles https://www.nbclosangeles.com/paris-2024-summer-olympics/los-angeles-2028-differs-paris-2024-olympics/3485710/ Baseball and softball return in 2028, along with cricket, lacrosse, obstacle racing, squash, and flag football. LaCrosse was last played in the 1908 Olympics. Softball will take place in Oklahoma City. We MIGHT see big leaguers in the baseball tournament. Manfred is on board, but has concerns about potential injuries to star players. Swimming and track flip flop their schedules, so track will be the first week and swimming the second week. Not included in the article is that breaking will not be in the 28 games, and if the IBA cannot get its act together, boxing may also be absent from the games. Boxing has been an Olympic sport since 1904, with the exception of 1912 where the sport was illegal in Sweden. Women's boxing first appeared in the London Games of 2012. Quote

Good news about breaking, what a travesty of "sport" that was. And why is softball being played 1300 miles away in Oklahoma City? Is softball banned in California? Never heard of "obstacle racing" until now. Looks to actually be one of the contests in the modern pentathlon competition, not a stand alone event: https://obstacleracingmedia.com/featured/obstacle-course-racing-to-be-included-in-2028-olympic-games/ FTA: Quote OCR will get in, but to be super clear, it isn’t obstacle racing as a standalone, it’s obstacle racing as the fifth discipline in modern pentathlon, and that discipline will be a short course of 65 meters, and it joins fencing, laser gun pistol shooting, swimming, and cross-country running. It’s replacing equestrian, which had controversy at the Tokyo Games in 2020. This brings even more questions. So no equestrian at the 2028 games? Google to the rescue: https://www.nbcconnecticut.com/paris-2024-summer-olympics/paris-2024-summer-olympics-modern-pentahlon-horses-out-american-ninja-warrior-in-los-angeles-olympic/3358364/#:~:text=Under pressure from the International, horse welfare scandals in Paris. Quote ... t began with a distressed horse and a coach who lost control. When Kim Raisner leaned over a fence at the Tokyo Olympics to strike the horse Saint Boy, video footage went viral outside the small world of modern pentathlon. Raisner was coaching Germany’s Annika Schleu, whose gold-medal chances disappeared when Saint Boy refused to cooperate. Athletes have to ride unfamiliar horses, and Schleu was drawn with Saint Boy, who had already refused to work with a Russian competitor. Under pressure from the International Olympic Committee to avoid a repeat, modern pentathlon soon announced it would replace equestrian. That decision seemed timely as other equestrian events faced their own horse welfare scandals in Paris. ... Kind of crazy how these competitions are added or removed from Olympic games. 1 Quote
