PHJIrish
Not much defense in this one. The Irish kicked a field goal with 1:17 left to take a 31-28 lead, only to have St. X drive the field and score a TD with 14 seconds left. We Irish fans have seen that before, many time throughout the years. Cathedral's last win at St. X came in 2000. It was a fun game to watch, unless you prefer a defensive battle. St. X fans are as hardcore as it gets and a lot of them were done with him after last season. Apparently they feel there is a converted receiver who is the better option that will likely start next year for his senior season. He’s quick and was good at keeping plays alive with his feet, but you’re going to complete a lot of passes when the defense you’re playing gives receivers as much cushion as Cathedral did Friday night. Cathedral wins that game if they go for it on 4th and inches at the 5 yard line instead of kicking a FG. Never had a chance once that decision was made. Yeah, it's pretty easy when the defense is giving you a 10+ yard cushion. He took advantage well as to what the Irish showed him though. Also the game may have worked out to the Irish advantage if they hadn't been down t one running back. I don't think the Bombers could have handled Bonds, but we'll never know. Cathedral averaged nearly 6 ypc which makes kicking a FG on 4th and inches inside the 10 yard line even that more perplexing considering St. X had used all their timeouts. Dangerfield had an outstanding game, but he didn't get many downs off. It's best to have multiple running backs. Owen Peterson also had an outstanding game. I don't question the FG. The defense should be able to hold 'em for 1:17. Another one of the crazy kickoffs went OOB and gave St. X another 15 yards. What's up with the kickoffs?

The stops they did get in the 2H were because of self-inflicted penalties by St. X. Gain 2 inches and St. X doesn’t get the ball back period. That’s the 3rd or 4th time in the last 10-15 years I’ve seen St. X go on a last minute scoring drive to win the game. But yes, special teams are a nightmare. Kick the ball in the end zone. Heard the Irish radio broadcasters say they were told he wasn't going to play against Brownsburg and he ended up starting that Friday night, but on Saturday when they resumed play he was not in pads. Then for the St. X game he was ruled out. I also heard them say their top returning O-lineman got injured before the season started. Here is to hoping they are done with the injury bug.

BDGiant93
I was told that the onside kick in the Ben Davis game was a happy little accident. That he was trying to loft it over the front line and it line drove into one of the BD player's shins.
