Guessing Purdue is up there since his dad went there. He has official visits scheduled with Ole Miss, Rutgers, North Carolina, Vanderbilt, and Purdue. It moves quickly but I believe those are correct. Tyler Ruxer with official visits scheduled with West Virginia, Duke, Northwestern, Purdue. Not sure if there is a fifth scheduled. Cappy Posted May 2, 2025 Posted May 2, 2025 From Facebook page Hoosier Prep Gridiron… The Coaches Corner - Sponsored By American Family Insurance Brandon Neighbors takes over at Class 1A South Spencer and inherits a roster full of experienced and athletic offensive skill players and a solid offensive line with plenty of varsity game experience Q&A with Coach Brandon Neighbors Question 1 Hello Coach Neighbors and welcome to Hoosier Prep Gridiron. Congratulations on your new role as Head Coach at South Spencer High School. As we head full steam into spring, what has been the primary focus of your offseason workouts, and what are your priorities with spring football as you begin to prep this team for the 2025 season? Response Thank you, and I appreciate the opportunity to talk about our program. The platform you provide for coaches and players was much needed, and I enjoy reading all the interviews and seeing the player profiles. Our offseason focus has been structured around building strength and explosiveness in our athletes. Our kids have really bought into the weight room over the last 4-5 seasons, so we are seeing great strength numbers in our testing and now we want to start building on being more explosive on the field. During spring practices our primary focus has been on fundamentals, working to install new schemes and terminology on the offensive side of the ball, and getting our younger kids familiar with the new system. Question 2 Entering your 1st season now as HC at South Spencer , this program is coming off a 5-5 season with a first round sectional loss to Forest Park. When watching tape, what were the biggest challenges that you and your staff pinpointed coming out of last season for the Rebels, and do you feel improvements have been made and new systems installed that will address those issues and put this football team into position to take that next step up the ladder? Response The last couple of seasons we were very reliant on one person carrying a majority of the workload for us. Unfortunately, when he went down in the Sectional we were unable to finish the game the way we had hoped. We have a group that is anxious to take over that workload and have worked extremely hard this off season to be ready. Physically we have all the tools to succeed. We are going to focus on improving our mental and physical toughness as we go through the summer as well as shore up some holes that need to be replaced from graduation. We are entering year 2 of our leadership academy as well, and hope to reap some benefits from that going into next season. Question 3 From an offensive position group standpoint, what appear to be the areas of strength and depth on your 2025 roster, and who are some of the rising underclassmen whom you and your staff will count on for off field leadership and on field production in the season ahead? Response Offensively, we have a good group of Wide Receivers returning including our top WR from last year Braydon Hughes along with Ashton Rhoades and Tate Schulte, and some younger guys that are developing. Braydon is a hard nosed, football/wrestling kid and works extremely hard in the weight room. We are excited to see him have a big senior year. Ashton is football/ basketball kid with great size, speed and range. Tate, has completely changed his body over the last 2 years, we saw spurts of his ability last year, and we look for big things from him in 2025. At running back we have our returning starter from last year, Ethan Fuqua who had a really solid jr season, and have 2 sophomore running backs Detravion Lance, and Zackary Downs, that we are really excited about. Our offensive line returns 5 guys that have starter experience and some good size returning up front including, All Conference Sr. Briley Roth, Sr. Stone Kirchgessner, Jr. Kaden Adcock, Jr. Chase Harmon, and Soph. JaQuar Johnson. We also have 4-5 others that are competing to crack the starting line up. At QB, Rhoades was our back up last year, and we have a couple sophomores Jaycek Miller and Quinton Chapman that are working hard. Question 4 On the defensive side of the football, who are your top returning kids and what if any changes do you plan to implement to the overall system and scheme? Response Schematically we are going to keep running the 4-2-5 and try to apply some more pressure this year. We had a solid year defensively and return a lot of key pieces including leading tackler and middle linebacker Briley Roth. We have some good team speed on the defensive side of the ball so we hope to be able to contain opposing offenses, rally to the football and be great tacklers. Many of the same kids on the offensive side with be key contributors for us on defense. Question 5 Coming off the results of the 2024 season, what are your goals and expectations for South Spencer Football in 2025 as you begin to put your game plan together and hit the ground running with the opening of August camp? Response Our goals are simple, be our best, no matter what the outcome is on the scoreboard we want to strive to be our best all the time. I believe our best would put us in position to compete for a small school PAC conference title, and compete for a Sectional Championship. Quote
