This season HH should has earned the right to be the favorite this coming season on the Large side of the conference.  That said, they will only have to play GS once this season, which will completely change the dynamic of this year's contest.  GS returns a LOT (7-8 offense - 8 defense) and has the benefit of a tremendous incoming Junior class...ask anyone who got a piece of our JV squad last season, I could highlight a few of those players (a couple of varsity impacting rising sophomores on that list as well), but let's make them earn it first.  GS takes a couple of steps forward.  Will HH? .  I also suspect that after all the Calpreps data is in, GS will be ranked #1 in 3A.  I trust our friends in Blue and White will be watching us closely this season.

Way too early rankings.

Could’ve fooled me … “ask anyone who got a piece of our JV squad last season”.

What that statement indicates is that we have a fine group (8-1) moving up....I think it's pretty logical.  So...our 3A pre-season ranking will be based on NOTHING to do with what is coming up from JV.  For us, JV serves as a farm club so to speak.  I believe, which I think is extremely logical, that filling the FEW gaps we have with this wildly successful group is a great sign that our pre-season rankings will not have accounted for.  Even my friends in Blue in White mention their strong sophomore class....I agree with them that they should be optimistic about that group.  We have multiple multisport athletes in the JR group who have great size, speed, athleticism, and, more importantly, are competitors.   Will they (and our 8 returners on each side of the ball) get us over the blip of the D1 duo this season in the conference?....no idea....but I like our chances for a miraculous come-from-behind victory.  Our incoming Freshman even deeper, a strong group for sure as well.  Oh.....and maybe we get lucky in the transfer portal (wink wink).

No shame in that!  I'm guessing North Spencer wouldn't turn anyone away.

Wouldn't be the first time, amiright?

Needed them for their state title run, I believe.  Good for them.  They were ahead of the game on this whole transfer thing.

Not really...but it's nice when football players move into your communities.

So on the small school rankings....I just make that up....I have no idea anymore since we don't play any of them.

Hard to know, NP lost a lot of production (Galvin was most of it) and has a small senior class coming back, TC lost the twins and I believe FP had a bunch of seniors as well. SS lost Ty Brown, PC has their RB back but lost their QB and Tec was young.

Found this article online about Boonville:

Congratulations on your new role as Head Coach at Boonville High School. As we head full steam into spring, what has been the primary focus of your offseason workouts, and what are your priorities with spring football as you begin to prep this team for the 2025 season?
Response
Thank you very much! Our focus for offseason workouts have been to continue building strength and gain momentum heading into the summer. We have a lot of multi-sport athletes at BHS, but have some evenings in place in the coming weeks where we are planning to get together as a team. Our primary focus will be offense, as we begin a transition on that side of the ball.
Question 2
Entering your 1st season now at Boonville, this program is coming off a 6-6 season and has played .500 football over the past 2 years. The competition in The PAC continues to elevate ,especially in the big school division of the conference. When watching tape, what were the biggest challenges that you and your staff pinpointed coming out of last season for the Pioneers, and do you feel improvements have been made and new systems installed that will address those issues and put this football team into position to take that next step up the ladder?
Response
The PAC is a very good conference that we are proud to be a part of. One of our biggest challenges last season was our youth. Despite returning several players from the 2023 team, we had a lot of guys getting their first varsity experience last fall, which included a lot of sophomores getting big time reps on Friday nights. We feel like that experience last fall has helped instill confidence in those guys, and will lead to success moving forward. In addition to our youth, teams really began to stack the box and come after us last season. We have some very skilled athletes that we plan to spread the field with this fall, and take advantage of those situations.
Question 3
From an offensive position group standpoint, what appear to be the areas of strength and depth on your 2025 roster, and who are some of the rising underclassmen whom you and your staff will count on for off field leadership and on field production in the season ahead?
Response
We believe that our skill position players on the offensive side of the ball are a big strength of ours, as we return a lot of production there. We return Grant Davis and Nolan McKinney in the backfield, who combined for 1,300 yards on the ground and 16 rushing touchdowns in 2024. Davis has also thrown for over 1000 in each of the past two seasons. We expect Tyler Klaner (Junior All-State and Northern Illinois TE commit) to have a big season offensively, and will utilize him in a variety of ways. Jordan Paul, made some big plays for us last fall, and we expect him to continue to progress and be a weapon for us. Axton Hudson and Brayden Mayes are a pair of returning linemen that should be leaders and help anchor us up front. We also have several other players, such as Aiden Perigo, Peyton Holly, Dawson Keller, Mason Jones, Tripp Kelly, and more that we expect big things from offensively this fall.
Question 4
On the defensive side of the football, who are your top returning kids and what if any changes do you plan to implement to the overall system and scheme?
Response
Defensively, we return All-PAC and Junior All-State player Tyler Klaner, who is very versatile, and makes plays all over the field. Tyler saw a big season in 2024, highlighted by 61 tackles from the DE position, including 11 TFL and 5 sacks. Our secondary will be a strength, with several key players returning. All-PAC DB Grant Davis (65 tackles, 2 INT) returns for us, as does Aiden Perigo, who had 58 tackles and 4 interceptions during a very productive sophomore campaign. Jordan Paul (41 tackles, 2 INT) and Hunter Tyson (57 tackles) are also returning starters in the secondary with high upside and great leadership skills. Mason Jones and Dallas Busing give us experience returning at the inside backer positions, and will be expected to help lead us this coming fall. Defensively, Matt Conner, long-time Pioneer assistant, who I think is as good as anybody in the business will continue to call the defense.
Question 5
Coming off the results of the 2024 season, what are your goals and expectations for Boonville Football in 2025 as you begin to put your game plan together and hit the ground running with the opening of August camp?
Response
Our expectations for the 2025 season is that we compete week in and week out. We understand the difficulty of playing in the PAC and our sectional, and are up for the task. We plan to put a strong emphasis on discipline, effort, and toughness this summer, which in turn we expect to translate to wins this fall. Although we return a small senior class, they are an impactful class on the field, and each one of them displays great leadership abilities. I expect those seniors to help guide the way this fall.

Jett Goldsberry, 3A player of the year and a Mr. Football candidate, is also part of the Primetime 25. The PAC is well represented. Have there ever been two PAC representatives in the same year?

Todd Wilkerson also won 3A Coach of the year.

Jon and Jett are 1 of only 2 father son combinations to ever be represented on the prime 25.
