hhpatriot04 Posted Tuesday at 01:39 PM Posted Tuesday at 01:39 PM This is a mythical P/P traveling "trophy" between all private and parochial schools in Indiana. Because we have to pick a starting date, I have chosen 1999 because Roncalli went 15-0, beat Chatard twice, Scecina, and Brebeuf. The previous season, Roncalli also beat Chatard, Cathedral, and Scecina with no losses to P/P schools. A lot of extensive research went into this by hand. I used AI to double check the results and I'm 99.9999% this is the correct path that the "trophy" has traveled. This makes the first defense of the trophy on Week 1 of 2000 (August 18): Week 1, 2000: Brebeuf 7, Roncalli 0 Week 3, 2000: Providence 19, Brebeuf 16 Week 3, 2001: Providence 22, Brebeuf 21 Week 3, 2002: Providence 17, Brebeuf 13 Week 3, 2003: Providence 24, Brebeuf 14 Week 3, 2004: Brebeuf 31, Providence 0 Week 4, 2004: Brebeuf 21, Scecina 7 Week 5, 2004: Brebeuf 40, Culver Academy 13 Week 6, 2004: Brebeuf 49, Heritage Christian 0 Week 7, 2004: Brebeuf 24, Ritter 21 Week 9, 2004: Roncalli 21, Brebeuf 6 Week 12, 2004: Roncalli 17, Cathedral 16 (sectional final) Week 3, 2005: Chatard 14, Roncalli 7 Week 4, 2005: Cathedral 33, Chatard 15 Week 12, 2005: Roncalli 16, Cathedral 12 (sectional final) Week 3, 2006: Chatard 41, Roncalli 7 Week 4, 2006: Cathedral 20, Chatard 14 Week 6, 2006: Roncalli 14, Cathedral 13 Week 10, 2006: Cathedral 28, Roncalli 0 (sectional) Week 4, 2007: Cathedral 21, Chatard 7 Week 6, 2007: Cathedral 31, Roncalli 0 Week 10, 2007: Cathedral 42, Roncalli 7 (sectional) Week 4, 2008: Cathedral 15, Chatard 14 Week 7, 2008: Cathedral 17, Roncalli 3 Week 10, 2008: Cathedral 21, Roncalli 8 (sectional) Week 15, 2008: Cathedral 10, Dwenger 7 (state) Week 4, 2009: Cathedral 31, Chatard 7 Week 6, 2009: Cathedral 55, Roncalli 10 Week 4, 2010: Cathedral 40, Chatard 14 Week 6, 2010: Cathedral 41, Roncalli 10 Week 12, 2010: Cathedral 48, Roncalli 7 (sectional final) Week 15, 2010: Cathedral 31, Dwenger 20 (state) Week 4, 2011: Cathedral 21, Chatard 14 Week 5, 2011: Cathedral 42, Dwenger 3 Week 10, 2011: Cathedral 20, Roncalli 13 (sectional) Week 4, 2012: Chatard 21, Cathedral 7 Week 5, 2012: Ritter 56, Chatard 33 Week 8, 2012: Ritter 36, Scecina 18 Week 9, 2012: Ritter 55, Park Tudor 0 Week 14, 2012: Ritter 49, Mater Dei 14 (semistate) Week 15, 2012: Luers 40, Ritter 28 (state) Week 6, 2013: Concordia 17, Luers 14 Week 9, 2013: Concordia 34, Brebeuf 27 Week 12, 2013: Concordia 42, Luers 21 (sectional final) Week 6, 2014: Luers 52, Concordia 27 Week 1, 2015: Luers 28, Dwenger 15 Week 5, 2015: Luers 42, Concordia 35 Week 4, 2016: Concordia 34, Luers 16 Week 6, 2016: Concordia 28, Dwenger 21 Week 12, 2016: Concordia 45, Luers 22 Week 4, 2017: Concordia 28, Luers 7 Week 6, 2017: Dwenger 27, Concordia 0 Week 7, 2017: Dwenger 15, Luers 14 Week 6, 2018: Dwenger 36, Concordia 13 Week 7, 2018: Dwenger 15, Luers 13 Week 6, 2019: Dwenger 33, Concordia 14 Week 7, 2019: Dwenger 47, Luers 0 Week 6, 2020: Dwenger 38, Concordia 12 Week 7, 2020: Dwenger 43, Luers 6 Week 6, 2021: Dwenger 45, Concordia 10 Week 7, 2021: Luers 41, Dwenger 38 Week 4, 2022: Luers 41, Concordia 14 Week 7, 2022: Dwenger 17, Luers 12 Week 7, 2023: Luers 29, Dwenger 28 Week 14, 2023: Luers 28, Central Catholic 7 (semistate) Week 5, 2024: Luers 38, Concordia 0 Week 7, 2024: Dwenger 8, Luers 0 Week 9, 2024: Dwenger 41, Concordia 7 Week 1, 2025: Roncalli 3, Dwenger 0 Week 3, 2025: Chatard 33, Roncalli 11 Week 4, 2025: Cathedral 23, Chatard 20 NEXT TROPHY GAME Week 4, 2026: Cathedral at Chatard KEY STORYLINES All-Time Records Cathedral 20-4 Dwenger 12-8 Luers 9-11 Concordia 7-10 Brebeuf 6-6 Roncalli 5-13 Ritter 4-2 Providence 4-1 Chatard 4-9 Scecina 0-2 Heritage Christian 0-1 Mater Dei 0-1 Culver Academy 0-1 Central Catholic 0-1 Park Tudor 0-1 🏆 Cathedral's Dynasty (2006–2011) — 16 consecutive defenses across 6 seasons, including two state championship trophy defenses (2008 vs Dwenger, 2010 vs Dwenger). The all-time record. 🏰 Dwenger's Fortress (2017–2021) — 8 straight defenses, completely locking the trophy in Fort Wayne for 4+ years. Concordia and Luers couldn't crack it. 🌍 The Fort Wayne Exile (2012–2024) — The trophy spent 13 years in northern Indiana! After Ritter carried it to the 2012 state final, it bounced between Luers, Concordia, and Dwenger until Roncalli finally brought it home to Indy in Week 1, 2025. 😬 Chatard's Curse — Held the trophy 4 times, never defended it once! Every time they win it, they lose it the very next P/P game. 2 Quote
Footballking16 Posted Tuesday at 03:33 PM Posted Tuesday at 03:33 PM Friday should be a really good game. Cathedral offense starting to show some life as they are riding a big time win in Cincy vs St. X. Chatard pounded Roncalli but believe they enter Friday's contest down a key player. 1 Quote
oldtimeqb Posted Tuesday at 05:30 PM Posted Tuesday at 05:30 PM This is fascinating work. It spent more time in Ft Wayne than I would have guessed. Do you know who else has won the state title while holding/winning the trophy? Seems like Cathedral has several times. I think during the Ft Wayne "exile" time, only Concordia (2016), Dwenger (2018), and Luers (2023) won the title while holding the trophy. I could be off though. 1 Quote

hhpatriot04 Posted Wednesday at 07:07 PM Author Posted Wednesday at 07:07 PM Why did Roncalli and Cathedral stop playing each other in the regular season? Cathedral has space for Southport, but not Roncalli? Quote

Cathedral has space for Southport, but not Roncalli? About 15-20 years ago, Roncalli wanted Cathedral's student enrollment makeup to mirror Chatard, Scecina, Ritter, etc...ie stop taking non-Catholic students. Cathedral told Roncalli to piss in the wind and the series was never renewed once the contract expired. It renewed a few years ago for two seasons but the games weren't competitive and Roncalli took their ball and went home again. Crazy to think that its been almost 20 years to the day the last time Roncalli beat Cathedral in football. That rivalry used to be one of the best in the state back in the day. 2 Quote
PHJIrish Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago I began at Cathedral in 1957 and there were about 10%, or so, non Catholics enrolled at that time. IMO, it's a good thing for both Catholics and non Catholics, as I learned as much about other faith lives as they learned about mine. It's just a shame that some hold having non Catholics against Cathedral. I'm sure glad that Cathedral maintains the tradition of inclusion, both racially and religiously. Quote
tango Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago I think accepting non-Catholics was part of the "New Evangelization" call made by Pope Ben in 2012, especially if the young men have football skills. Quote
hhpatriot04 Posted 1 hour ago Author Posted 1 hour ago Mike Pence said he was an "Evangelical Catholic" you know. Just sayin' Could this be the prelude to the new Spanish Inquisition? Quote

Lysander Posted 11 minutes ago Posted 11 minutes ago (edited) This has been explained 1000 times. I’m seeing some annual pot stirring by CJ in this post. It had to do with an agreement reached by the Archdiocese schools, Brebeuf, Guerin and, originally, Cathedral. It wasn’t about Catholic v Non-Catholic enrollment- it had everything to do with how athletes in CYO schools could be contacted and how they could not. Coaches could talk to CYO teams as a whole in favor of coming to their school but no recruiting individually by coaches…no phone calls, etc. Archdiocese schools were limited to their feeder schools but the non-Arccdiocese had no limitation EXCEPTING there was to be no direct INDIVIDUAL contact. Coach L back in the day couldn’t even individually promote Chatard football or talk in any way about it to kids on the Spring day they signed up for classes at Chatard. I know it because I witnessed it on the day of sign-up. All these schools had agreed to it until Cathedral reneged. Roncalli responded as they did because of it. As much as I am not so “down” with the Royals rename I totally respected Roncalli’s decision back then….still do. Edited 11 minutes ago by Lysander Quote

As much as I am not so “down” with the Royals rename I totally respected Roncalli’s decision back then….still do. It's a bunch of baloney. 1) Cathedral nor Brebeuf are diocesan schools. Nether should be held to the same standard as diocesan schools. Roncalli started hemorrhaging kids to both Cathedral and Center Grove as they were an emerging power at the time 2) Roncalli had ZERO issue scheduling Cathedral in any other IHSAA sport after this "agreement" was reneged and has been that way for the last 20 years. They used to/still(?) play freshman/JV football against Cathedral. Bottom line, Cathedral turned the tables on Roncalli after being Roncalli's whipping by for several seasons and Roncalli responded by taking their ball and going home. Quote
