East scores a TD on a short run a minute and a half into the fourth to go up 28-7. They then ran out the clock to close the game on fourth down by running into their own endzone for a Jeff safety. East wins 28-9. Absolutely unbelievable performance by the East defense. Jeff couldn’t move the ball tonight. That’s 22 straight wins against the Red Devils.

Made the drive to Jeffersonville for the East at Jeff game. It’s my first time ever at Jeff’s stadium. I’ve now been to the homefield of every HHC team. Also been to Madison several times.

I’ve often thought of putting together a list of the places I’ve been, perhaps over the long cold winter…..

That would be a long list but also a cool one

I completely forgot Floyd Central’s stadium is newer. I ran track at the old one and watched a football game at the new one.

I should mention that the reason I’ve been to Arsenal Tech’s field is because Cathedral used that as their home field against East in the 2017 semi-state game.

Back in the 90’s sometime at the old FC stadium. We had Evansville Central at FC in the tournament, not sure what round. We had had a freak 6” snow storm on Thursday before the game. So I got to work a game in the snow and frankly never wanted to do it again. The real issue was my jock broke right at the start of the game. This was before the days of compression shorts and all the modern nice things we have today. So worked the whole game flapping in the breeze, it was most uncomfortable. I always packed two jocks after that until compression shorts were born.

Question for @Impartial_Observer or anyone else with an advanced understanding of the rules.

Last night, East scored a touchdown on a play that I thought might have been illegal. No flag was thrown but the Jeff sideline seemed to think one should’ve been thrown.

East had either a 2nd or 3rd and goal from the Jeff 1 yard line near the end of the 2nd quarter. They were in a shotgun formation with split backs. All of a sudden, the QB and both backs ran up behind the center and guards in the same split back formation. After about a second, Villarreal took the snap and dived forward for the touchdown. Is this a legal play?

Posted

They can shift into a different formation. However the quickly running forward under center, could well simulate a snap. Once all three are set they would need to be set for 1 second prior to snapping. Would be an interesting play to throw on the officiating forums if you could come up with a clip?

Unfortunately, I don’t have a clip. I don’t know if Jeff was upset about the formation shift or if they thought a full second hadn’t elapsed before the snap. They didn’t go full crazy over it like I’ve seen some staffs do though.

Yes!!!!! 1:03:30 to be exact but thank you! Watching it back, it doesn’t look like the Jeff coaching staff was upset at the play after all. Looks like some were disappointed with the defense giving up the TD. Not sure what the coach came out on to the field to say to the ref after the long pause.

Did you like the old stadium, or new stadium better? I played in the old stadium. The old heads preferred that venue.

I like the new one better. Just nicer overall.

First impressions of the sectional draw.

4A sectional 23: BNL got a really good draw as I don’t see any team in the top half of the bracket that can beat them. Not only are they the HHC team with the best chance to win a sectional game, they look to be the only one with a chance to win a sectional title. My biggest concern is whether they can beat Martinsville twice as that is the team I believe will come out of the bottom half of the bracket.

5A sectional 14: Whiteland gets a cakewalk to the sectional championship as they get the opportunity to knock out two HHC teams before playing East Central in the sectional championship. East Central should be the favorite but they’re not as strong as previous years. Whiteland could sneak up on them. Also, it needs to be mentioned again how dumb it was to add a 33rd team to 5A when they could’ve easily dropped a team to 4A (which has less than 64 teams). That’s the IHSAA for you. Nothing makes sense except that they will take the easy way out whenever possible.

5A sectional 16: Best case scenario would obviously have been for Floyd Central to get New Albany but that wasn’t likely. They at least have a chance against Castle but I don’t think they’ll be favored. Evansville North should be the favorite to win the sectional although I could see Castle avenging their week 1 loss to them if they get past Floyd Central.

6A sectional 8: Jeffersonville has no shot against Center Grove. I know the Trojans are dealing with injuries but I anticipate they’ll still beat Franklin Central for their 15th straight sectional title.

I think Floyd Central has a very good chance to win their Sectional. They had a really good Castle team on the ropes last season. Castle seems down. Evansville North is pretty good but FC at home would have a chance.

If Floyd Central only had to go through one of the SIAC teams then I’d agree that they have a very good shot. However, they’ll have to go through both and I don’t have the confidence that they’ll be able to do so. Both Castle and Evansville North are better than any HHC team Floyd Central plays (and maybe even Floyd Central themselves).

I'm not sure about that? Floyd Central is better than even some of the good Floyd Central teams are. I think their OL combined with maybe the most Physical RB in the state in Robertson will give them a chance to win those games. I've talked to the coach and the players. Believe me. They want it badly. From what I have been told, North is better than Castle.

Yeah North beat Castle in week 1 by 11. Castle also lost to Jasper when Evansville North didn’t.

OK, IO.....no time to type mine all out.   But my list consists of 76 places I've worked at, plus 9 others that I either

attended a game at, or had a certification clinic at.  I added 2 schools to the latter this past weekend with GFFB.
