Greenpeace co-founder tears into Ocasio-Cortez, Green New Deal: ‘Pompous little twit’: https://www.foxnews.com/politics/greenpeace-co-founder-tears-into-ocasio-cortez-green-new-deal-pompous-little-twit

Quote

Patrick Moore, the co-founder of the environmentalist group Greenpeace, ripped into New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez over the weekend as a “pompous little twit,” saying the Green New Deal plan she’s advocating is “completely crazy.”

In a series of tweets, Moore argued Ocasio-Cortez, who has called for drastically reducing fossil fuel production, doesn’t realize what would happen across the world if the radical plan were implemented.

“If fossil fuels were banned every tree in the world would be cut down for fuel for cooking and heating," Moore said in a tweet Saturday directed at Ocasio-Cortez. “You would bring about mass death.”

Moore left Greenpeace after 15 years and is now critical of the group, later writing the book, “Confessions of a Greenpeace Dropout: The Making of a Sensible Environmentalist.” Greenpeace, years ago, distanced themselves from Moore.

Referring to the New York Democrat as a “pompous little twit,” Moore said, “You don’t have a plan to grow food for 8 billion people without fossil fuels, or get food into the cities.”

Moore also unloaded on her for calling climate change “our World War II.”

“It's her @GND that would be worse than WW2,” he said. “Imagine no fuel for cars, trucks, tractors, combines, harvesters, power-plants, ships, aircraft, etc. Transport of people & goods would grind to a halt.”

In another tweet, Moore called the Green New Deal “so completely crazy it is bound to be rejected in the end.”

He also referred to Ocasio-Cortez as a “garden-variety hypocrite,” in response to a New York Post story that said the Democrat frequently used gas-guzzling Uber and Lyft rides during her 2018 campaign instead of taking the subway station near her campaign office.

“You're just a garden-variety hypocrite like the others. And you have ZERO expertise at any of the things you pretend to know,” Moore said.

Ocasio-Cortez responded to that story over the weekend saying she’s “living in the world as it is.” But she said that shouldn’t be “an argument against working towards a better future.”

“The Green New Deal is about putting a LOT of people to work in developing new technologies, building new infrastructure, and getting us to 100% renewable energy,” she said.

I'm sure you know that Moore is a shill for the nuclear, logging and genetic engineering industries who is also a climate change skeptic.

He exploits his long ago and long forgotten ties to the Greenpeace to get big dollar corporate gigs who lap up his drivel like fox, and wnd and cns did for these tweets.

No reputable news source even covered the story because it took about 20 seconds to see what an anti environmental turd he really is.

Yes NightHawk, I am aware of Mr. Moore's history.

Can you please provide me a list of your reputable news sources?

BTW, congratulations to Tiny Argos for winning it's basketball sectional this past Saturday night.

Ocasio-Cortez’s chief of staff might have broken campaign finance laws: https://nypost.com/2019/03/02/ocasio-cortezs-chief-of-staff-might-have-broken-campaign-finance-laws/

Quote

The most powerful person in Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s office is a tech millionaire with homes in the West Village and Maryland, who is behind a set of inter-related companies raising ethical eyebrows with good-government groups.

Saikat Chakrabarti, 33, is the hard-left freshman’s chief of staff — the brains behind initiatives like the Green New Deal and the founder of a trio of companies that catapulted Ocasio-Cortez into Congress.

But those companies raise red flags with government-watchdog groups who say Chakrabarti may have skirted campaign finance law.

Ocasio-Cortez’s campaign paid Justice Democrats, a Tennessee-based PAC founded by Chakrabarti, a total of $41,108.59 for “campaign services” and “strategic consulting” in 2017 and 2018, Federal Election Commission filings show.

But PACs are not vendors and cannot provide more than $5,000 a year worth of services for any single candidate, according to FEC regulations. If candidates go above this amount, they need to seek advice directly from the FEC.

“They believe their cause is so great that they don’t have to play by the rules,” said Tom Anderson, who heads up the Government Integrity Project at the National Legal and Policy Center in Virginia, a conservative watchdog group. “They believe that they are above campaign finance law.”

“It was payment for services,” Ocasio-Cortez spokesman Corbin Trent told The Post, insisting that both the campaign and the PAC followed FEC rules and that they sought advice from an elections lawyer.

Brand New Congress, another PAC that Chakrabarti founded to support lefty candidates, paid Ocasio-Cortez’s boyfriend $6,000 in 2017, filings show. The payment to Riley Roberts was made at the same time that Ocasio-Cortez’s campaign paid Brand New Congress LLC $18,880 for “strategic consulting.”

Chakrabarti justified the payment last month, saying it was for online fund-raising services, but a conservative watchdog group disagrees.

“The timing and amounts of these transactions, the use of two affiliated entities as intermediaries, the vague and amorphous nature of the services Riley ostensibly provided, the magnitude of these transactions compared to both the limited funds the campaign had raised at the time . . . and the romantic relationship . . . collectively establish reason to believe these transactions may have violated campaign finance law,” reads an FEC complaint filed last week by the Coolidge Reagan Foundation.

An FEC spokesman refused to comment Friday, citing a rule that the agency could not publicly discuss individual campaigns.

“We believe that complaint is politically motivated, basically intended to create a political story,” Trent said, adding that Chakrabarti was no longer involved with the groups he founded when he became AOC’s campaign manager in February 2018.

Chakrabarti, who grew up in Texas and graduated from Harvard with a computer science degree, directed social-media tech for Democratic Sen. Bernie Sanders’ 2016 presidential campaign.

That same year he launched Brand New Congress in hopes of boosting hundreds of young, progressive candidates into public office.

As chief of staff, Chakrabarti is being paid $52,000 annually — far below the Capitol Hill average of $145,000 for the job — so that Ocasio-Cortez can pay her entry-level staffers the same $52,000 salary.

“Leadership starts with our choices,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted on Feb. 22. “We pinch pennies elsewhere, but it’s worth every dime to pay a living wage.”

Under congressional ethics rules, staffers who earn less than $126,148 are not required to report assets and other income.

As I'm sure you did your "20 seconds of research."

That is the only reason why I typed it.   Found out in 20 seconds he was a corporate shill and his musings on AOC, especially with the Trumpian name calling attached, should be largely ignored.

That is why I suggested you had not researched the fella.  Any clear thinker would have seen his screed as sophomoric, wildly biased, along with the titles of the articles being incredibly misleading.

Maybe that cult thing is real....

You are on a roll.  The watchdog group attacking your favorite new communist is funded by the heir to Gulf Oil.  Big surprise.  Im sure you knew that already too.  Took me about 60 seconds to find this.

Asked If She Denounces Maduro Regime in Venezuela, Ocasio-Cortez Attacks Elliott Abrams: https://freebeacon.com/national-security/asked-if-she-denounces-maduro-regime-in-venezuela-ocasio-cortez-attacks-elliott-abrams/

Quote

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D., N.Y.) didn't respond directly to a question Monday about whether to denounce the autocratic Nicolas Maduro regime in Venezuela, but she took it as an opportunity to attack U.S. special envoy Elliott Abrams.

At a press conference for her new congressional office's opening in Queens, a reporter inquired about the situation unfolding in Venezuela. The country's economy has collapsed under Maduro socialism, leading to food and medicine shortages and violent crackdowns against protests by his government.

"As a democratic socialist, I'm wondering what are your thoughts on the Venezuelan crisis happening right now and if you would denounce the Maduro regime?" a reporter asked.

Ocasio-Cortez said it was a "complex issue" and important to approach the humanitarian crisis there "very carefully."

"I think it's important that any solution that we have centers the Venezuelan people and centers the democracy of Venezuelan people first," she said. "I am very concerned about U.S. interventionism in Venezuela, and I oppose it, especially when we talk about a figure like U.S. special envoy Elliott Abrams here. He's pled guilty to several crimes related to Iran-Contra."

"I am generally opposed to U.S. interventionism as a principle, but particularly under this administration and under his leadership, I think it's a profound mistake," she added.

The Trump administration is pressuring Maduro to step down after a re-election widely considered a scam that circumvented the Venezuelan constitution. The United States and dozens of other countries have backed Juan Guaido, head of Venezuela's National Assembly, as the country's rightful interim president and condemned Maduro as a dictator.

Maduro has the support of such countries as China and Russia, with the latter accusing the U.S. of preparing a military intervention to install Guaido, according to Reuters.

Ocasio-Cortez's broadside at Abrams comes after a fellow left-wing freshman lawmaker, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D., Minn.), attacked him as a genocide-promoting, amoral interventionist at a Foreign Affairs Committee hearing last month. She called him "Mr. Adams" at the outset of her questioning and, as anti-Trump columnist Max Boot put it, read "haltingly from a sheet of paper" that seemed like it was pulled from Al Jazeera.

Ocasio-Cortez praised Omar's questioning for feeling like "justice." Abrams pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts of withholding information from Congress concerning the Reagan-era scandal and was later pardoned by President George H. W. Bush.

Omar has accused the Trump administration of backing a "coup" in Venezuela to install "far right opposition." Guaido's party is considered center-left. She retweeted Venezuelan and Russian state media in the aftermath of calling the popular opposition to Maduro a "coup."

An Open Letter to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: https://www.thenewamerican.com/print-magazine/item/31579-an-open-letter-to-alexandria-ocasio-cortez

Quote

Dear Representative Ocasio-Cortez,

Congratulations on winning your seat in the 14th Congression-al District of New York. You certainly made a name for yourself even before the House was turned over to the Democrats, with your activist demonstration against fossil fuels at House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office prior to being sworn in. As a Democratic Socialist, we’re aware you support single-payer health insurance, free college tuition, de-funding ICE, and several other issues of consequence. But our concern here is your proposal to transition the country, including the electrical grid, to run on 100-percent renewable sources of energy. We would like to take a look at what this would entail. Excuse us for being “numbery,” but the scope of this project of the Democratic Socialists is not a matter of good feelings, but cold hard numbers.

You back a “Green New Deal” that would, according to the U.K. Guardian, “eliminate greenhouse gas emissions from electricity, transportation, manufacturing, agriculture and other sectors within 10 years. It would also aim for 100% renewable energy.”

Since you have an educational background in International Relations and Economics, perhaps you would appreciate a brush-up on electrical terminology and what it would take to accomplish your proposal. First, let’s define which energy sources the environmentalist Left says qualify as “renewable sources of energy.”  They are:

• Solar (thermal and photovoltaic)

• Wind power

• Small-scale hydroelectric

• Biomass (including ethanol)

• Hydrogen and fuel cells

• Geothermal

Of those power-generating sources listed above, wind-power generation, at 6.3 percent of U.S. electrical energy, currently leads the way as a percentage of our country’s electric supply. Solar (both utility scale and small-scale) is in second place at 1.9 percent. Biomass is at 1.6 percent, but is not expected to have the potential of wind and solar. So for our purposes here, we will limit the discussion to the top two.

.....

Congressman Ocasio-Cortez, as a student of economics, you must realize that the conversion to 100-percent renewables is totally out of the realm of possibility. It would take many trillions of dollars and destroy the industrial economy that has brought us the highest standard of living in human history.

We are asked to give up our standard of living for the unproven theory that an insignificant increase in carbon dioxide from its current 0.04 percent of our atmosphere would cause Earth’s temperature to rise to a deadly level. Meanwhile, all of the computer models relied on by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change have predicted temperature increases much higher than satellite and ocean buoys have shown, which indicate a pause in temperature rise.

Moreover, a new peer-reviewed paper by Dr. Bjørn Lomborg published in the Global Policy journal shows that reducing CO2 production would make little to no difference in Earth’s temperatures.

The online summary of Dr. Lomborg’s research reveals:

The climate impact of all Paris INDC [Intended Nationally Determined Contributions] promises is minuscule: if we measure the impact of every nation fulfilling every promise by 2030, the total temperature reduction will be 0.048°C (0.086°F) by 2100.

Even if we assume that these promises would be extended for another 70 years, there is still little impact: if every nation fulfills every promise by 2030, and continues to fulfill these promises faithfully until the end of the century, and there is no ‘CO2 leakage’ to non-committed nations, the entirety of the Paris promises will reduce temperature rises by just 0.17°C (0.306°F) by 2100.

And even if Americans did stop producing CO2, Earth’s CO2 levels would continue to rise because China, India, and other countries are building coal-fired power plants by the dozen, which will likely more than offset any reductions Americans make.

If your objective is a reduction in carbon dioxide, maybe you should consider untying government regulations restricting nuclear generation. Nuclear power plants produce no carbon dioxide, and no U.S. citizen has ever been harmed in any nuclear power incident. The same cannot be said for wind farm accidents, as is documented by the Caithness Windfarm Information Forum and the number of amateur solar panel installers who have taken fatal falls from their roofs.

As you’ve just learned (we hope), energy from the wind or sun is far from free — and far from reliable. In the case of nuclear power, the amount of uranium fuel to power a residence for a year is about one gram, equal to one-fourth of a teaspoon of salt — or a paper clip. Without costly government-encouraged lawsuits, nuclear power is one of the most inexpensive and reliable sources of electricity on Earth. And no need for batteries.

Miss Ocasio-Cortez, if your objective is to destroy our economy to abolish capitalism so socialism can rise on its ashes, then you are on the right track — just like socialists managed in starving Venezuela. And you will surely have plenty of support not only from other Democratic Socialists but from the leadership of the Democrat Party, the mainstream media, and academia. But if your objective is to help the environment while helping the poor in our country, you’re on a dead-end street.

Not particularly sure why this is some issue with a freshman representative.  Trump just spent a mini-vacation with Kim and ended up totally believing that Kim had no knowledge of Warmbier's treatment.  AOC isn't wrong that Elliott Abrams plead guilty in Iran-Contra activity; garnering a pardon from Bush and basically getting off pretty scot-free.  Similarly, Abrams didn't have any problems with dictators back when he was backing Ríos Montt ... and given that Ríos Montt was indicted and sentenced for crimes related to and involving genocide, Omar's not completely unreasonable in raising the specter that Abrams hands don't seem to be completely clean.  I'd expect more coverage/focus on folks that are much higher up the chain.

So I assume her answer would be "No, I do not denounce Maduro".....Since the reporter didn't go all CNN Jim Acosta on her and demand an answer.....
