I drove to Owensboro, KY last weekend to visit my son (Gipper, Jr.) at his internship. Incidentally, Owensboro High School is also nicknamed the Red Devis, so apparently, we have RDP Bluegrass. So, there you go. But over the 5-hour trip down US 41 and SR 63, I saw many high schools: South Newton (well, the sign), Seeger, North & South Vermillion), the Hautians (both North and South), North Central, Sullivan. the sign to Linton, Vincennes, Gibson Southern, and Heritage Hills once I got on 231. All of these school play football and it's great to know how it plays a part in shaping to character of the cities and towns they represent.

The IHSAA is not equipped to handle any additional oversight / enforcement of more rules. Personally, I don't see HS NIL as having anywhere near the earth-shattering impact as its had in college athletics because there just isn't the revenue. The NCAA & colleges have made millions off athletes, but that isn't the case in HS athletics as most schools & programs are lucky to break even.

With 68 sectional titles in one class basketball, Lincoln was a long-time beneficiary of a very weak sectional. They were the literal big fish in a very small pond with North Knox, South Knox, Sullivan and Rivet. Things have changed since the advent of multi-class basketball - only 4 titles since 1997.

Had a similar experience driving home with my daughter who played a round robin at Purdue Northwest in Porter back during her recruiting time. Cool to see schools I’d heard of for years, then to actually see them. Eventually I wondered back on to 65.

Sorta.....But I don't think it is anywhere near ready to step into that role. There are just 241 NAIA schools while there are over 1,000 NCAA schools. Since I typed it, I am much more in favor of the amateur sports organizations governing each sport.

For the D1 level, I agree. For non scholarship schools and non revenue sports, I still see a place for an association to oversee them. One thing that will become an issue as NIL and simply paying athletes to play is going to be staying in compliance with Title IX. The NCAA only has itself to blame for anything that happens now. One other possibility for those sports would be to let the amateur governing bodies direct them. One example, USA Track and Field would run Track and Field at the collegiate levels.
