I have no idea why there is a purpose for a minimum size. Nor can I imagine wearing a towel that’s 3 ft. long. And no one checks them that closely. We’re busy trying to get the players to wear football pants with knee pads, rather than Bermuda shorts.

New Palestine's Kelso Stadium will be the venue for the 4A South Semistate, as the No. 1/1 Dragons (12-0) face the No. 4/3 Artesians (12-1). This matchup features one of the state's best offenses - a Martinsville attack that's scored 35+ points 11 times this season - against a New Palestine defense that's been very stout. That's going to be a fun, fun matchup to watch. A.J. Reynolds has been putting up eye-popping numbers, throwing for 230 yards per game, leading an offense that's been averaging 400+ yards per game. Hunter Stroud is a 1,300-yard receiver and the Artesians have two backs who have combined for 1,500 yards. Last week, it was the running game that came up big - Lucas Dewey ran for 239 yards, while Reynolds threw for 113 and two TDs. Because of that, the Artesians are never out of a game - as they proved when they were down 35 against Decatur Central and rallied to win 39-38. In the regional, Martinsville's special teams came up big, scoring on a blocked punt in the final 90 seconds to beat Evansville Reitz 35-28. NP's defense - with two FBS recruits in Michael Thacker and Brock Brownfield on the defensive line and a big, athletic LB corps led by Garrett and Josh Ranes - has not allowed much on the ground this year and has generally forced teams to become one-dimensional. After Chatard hit some big pass plays and was able to get something going in the running game to tie the game at 21-21 in the regional, NP's defense bowed up and got four straight stops - including two three-and-outs and an interception - before holding the Trojans out of the end zone in overtime. NP's offense has become increasingly run-heavy as the year has gone on, with Josh Ranes knocking on the door of 2,000 rushing yards. He had 122 and two TDs against Chatard, while QB Jacob Davis ran for 108 and a TD. Davis, however, is a very accurate passer who throws a great deep ball, and has a homerun threat in Austin McMahan, who has 6 TDs of 35+ yards. But the Dragons are very good, tallying 370+ yards per game and scoring 35+ points in 10 of their 12 games this season. This is NP's second straight semistate and seventh in the last 12 years. Martinsville is in the semistate for the first time since 1996. Expect a shootout with a trip Lucas Oil Stadium on the line. Also, with the IHSAAtv broadcasts being PPV for the semistate, free audio available at NewPalRadio.com (which I will have) or WCBK-102.3 (Martinsville broadcast).

Not sure about that. This happened in one of the college games yesterday, and the color commentator said that he didn't think it was a horse collar, but even if it was, the QB was in the pocket, thus no horse collar could be called.

Lutheran is still Lutheran. Their back up looks like he can spin the ball pretty darn well too. If you get the ball anywhere near the WR's they have a great chance to pull it down. Their QB also does not play defense. If you thought Brownstown was fast, Lutheran is faster. They seem to have that "city speed" I have read about on here before! Lord I apologize for that. 😅🤣

Westfield and Brownsburg can throw the football . Westfield probably prefers the run more. Brownsburg is more balanced. center Grove I would say is the better passing team between the other 3 of 4 teams. They have a QB that can throw the football very well.

Jim Brown is one of the greatest lacrosse players of all time. He was pretty good at football, too.

A Crown Point vs. Brownsburg final would be a great game. A real dogfight. 😂😅🤣

Congrats to New Pal. They were as good as advertised. Good luck the rest of the season! Chatard has nothing to be ashamed of, fell just a few plays short. That sophomore class is going to be fun to watch the next couple of years.

The 1A state champion has to be a private school STATE LAW! Crown Providence state champs right now and move on to basketball and wrestling (and swimming if you're into that sort of thing)

@temptation I would say Center Grove and Decatur Central (both top 550 teams nationally according to calpreps) were very good teams in 2018 and they handled them. 2019 they played Cathedral, Center Grove and Valpo. All top 400 teams nationally, again according to calpreps. I’d say both of those teams were challenged, took punches and were superior to some really high quality teams. This year their toughest game has been against Greenfield Central who is ranked 2812 nationally. Their opponents combined records are 57-61 Chatard has lost to Cathedral (163) and Elder (429). They have beaten Columbus North (739), Roncalli twice (805) and Brebeuff (1405). The combined records of their opponents this year is 75-47-1 There is an enormous difference between 2018/2019 New Pal and 2024 New Pal. 2019 NP opponents were 91-71. 2018 NP opponents were 83-75. I just don’t see how you can compare their 2024 team to either of those earlier teams. I’m not convinced that New Pal isn’t the underdog in this game

For my money I want to see which kids perform when the pressure ramps up. Chatard has 5 wins (and 2 losses) against teams that are better than anyone New Pal has played all season. In a mistake free game for both teams, with good to great coaching staffs and athletic kids on both sides, the scales have to tilt towards the team that has had to make plays late in the 4th quarter of a physical game. Sometimes a little doubt creeping into a kids mind can cause a critical mistake. As Mike Tyson said, everyone has a plan til they get punched in the face. Roncalli punched Chatard in the face Friday night. In fact, both teams traded punches til the final whistle. Has New Pal been punched? Their schedule doesn’t say so. 28-17 Chatard
