  1. Not a bad year…crazy to think more hardware in one year brought home to Btown than over 120 years of playing college football. Last bowl victory…1991 Copper Bowl.

  4. I agree that ESPN really has too much say so in this and that's unfortunate! I find myself trying to not watch much Espn since they seem to be accentuating the E. It's not possible to avoid them totally, but a lot of their entertainment shows I do avoid more and more.

  5. I feel the "moneyball" aspect of this story is overstated. The principal drivers of the Indiana success story are, 1: Talent evaluation and development. 2: Outstanding on field execution. Put another way, coaching is the most important part of the Indiana equation. I imagine you switch the Indiana coaching staff with any other staff in the country, and you'll watch the results follow Cignetti. The "production over potential" at its extreme would be a team that exclusively fields JR's and SR's for the roster and abandons high school recruiting entirely. Again, the "evaluation" part of the equation is key. I'm guessing there are a ton of high production guys Cig looked at and correctly passed on. Other coaches trying to mimic Cignetti will fail at the evaluation part.

  6. Funny you mentioned that. I was going to start a Production Over Potential thread. At the end of the day, Cignetti just opened the door for the kid that's a tad too short and slow, but put up big numbers. Who was the RB from Center Grove who went to Ball State? He's a good example. His numbers in high school should have impressed Power 4 schools if I'm remembering correctly. After that, he did the rest, ending up at UCLA and the NFL. The model is pretty simple. Pick kids who produce and are used to winning. The winning part is an important component too.

  7. And it showed when they were humiliated by Indiana. I think the committee was under a lot of pressure to include the Tide this past playoff. Hopefully the 3-loss experiment is over. That should be a rule anyway. I'd rather see a one loss Ball State team vie for a title rather than a three loss B1G or SEC team. I'm sorry, but if you lose three regular season games, you're not winning the championship. Might as well give a mid-major a shot at that point.

  8. They'll be playing the entire season with the same chip on their shoulder that IU and Miami had this season. There won't be a slip up.........12-0.

  9. Pretty cool. IU was a major player in 4 of the top 7 college football games viewed on TV this season. Of course, those are all big games regardless of teams. Still great that a chunk of the nation watched the Hoosiers this season.

  10. I am not sure it does. They have played nice when they met in games after Green Bay, but it was clear during McCarthy's last two years in GB that he and Rodgers were not on the same page. While I don't think Rodgers went to Mark Murphy and said this guy has to go, but I do think it was clear they had to pick McCarthy or Rodgers.

  11. Good question. It said he was at Hanover, so my guess is he likely is familiar with the program and may have recruited the area. So maybe he has at least been there before.
