Seems like there should be some standards of upkeep. Especially when there's numerous studies that indicate there's higher rates of knee injuries, etc. on turf vs natural grass.

Are there any rules pertaining to how long you can go before getting your field re-turfed? I know they recommend every 8-10 years but is there an IHSAA rule that mandates this? There's turf fields in the Region that I played on ten years ago that look like they have never been redone. Just wondering.

It's a tough situation and I understand completely where you're coming from and agree with a lot of it. But I would say the NCAA is a whole different situation as there's millions of dollars and a much bigger potentiality for pro careers at play there. Maybe it's all the stuff that's come out about Niedig and his ilk over the years that gives me (justifiable) pause in trusting them to be unbiased arbiters of these kinds of situations.

2022 5a outlook

I appreciate the offer and would take you up on it, unfortunately I work in Chicago and there's little chance I'd be able to make it out considering the drive time and time change. But I wasn't insinuating that there aren't good teams residing in 5A, just that in relation to the other classes I think the class as a whole is weak. Maybe what New Pal did to DC is clouding my judgment, but when a consensus top 5 team in a class gets blown out that badly by a team in the class below, no matter how good that team is, there should be reason for pause. This is obviously mostly speculation but I don't think any 5A team right now could compete with New Pal or Roncalli, and you arguably could throw in East Central and Chatard in there too. -

Don't think what I said is controversial at all. 5A has looked terrible the first two weeks of the season. -
I agree that the transferring has gotten a little out of control the past few years, but the question is, do we really want an institution to be meddling this much in the lives of students? Over high school sports? Just seems a little ridiculous to me that there's investigations into kids over this kind of stuff. And the fact that some schools have tried to keep seniors out of their last year of a sport is just shameful, and frankly, downright pathetic.

Penn vs Cathedral
scarab527 replied to GOLDRUSH1985's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I think it'll be closer, especially with the Irish's TE injured and the QB potentially hobbled a bit, but I think Cathedral should still win this one comfortably. -

Nice analysis, I think this is a pretty good summary of the situation. I will say that I think through the first two weeks of the season, 5A has looked incredibly weak. It's an interesting class in the fact that it appears wide open but pound for pound it is easily the worst class in the state right now. The only teams that have really impressed me at all are Whiteland and Franklin. DC's drubbing at the hands of New Pal doesn't make me feel confident in them at all, even if New Pal might be a top 5-10 team in the state overall. I think Whiteland makes a big statement this week and beats the Hawks comfortably. In the North, Merrillville crowned themselves 5A champions before the season even started and I think they might be realizing now it won't be that easy. I said that the North will come down to the DAC vs the SAC, and I still think that's the case, but with how Mishawaka has played, albeit not against the best competition, I think they have to be considered a legit threat to come out of the North. Especially if they get some home games with bad weather at their mud pit, I mean field. I think a big factor hurting the SAC schools is that sectional 12 is by far the hardest in 5A North, with 3 pretty evenly-matched teams. Whoever gets Anderson should count their lucky stars that they won't have 2 SAC rematches to worry about. Definitely will be interesting to see how the class plays out. -
DAC schedule and predictions week 2

Only impact guy I know that dressed but didn’t play was Philip Roche. But Merrillville looked very vulnerable last night. -
Fair enough, probably jumped the gun a little on that one. Definitely one of the marquee matchups in the entire state tonight though.

Probably the biggest game in the regular season for the Fort this year? Obviously going to be imbued with a lot of emotion. Wish I could be at this one. That being said I'm going to take Carroll.

Duneland athletic conference week 1
scarab527 replied to Piratefan101's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Yeah, I also was expecting them to be solid with the number of returners they brought back. We'll see how they progress as the season goes and if some pieces get moved around. Playing larger competition definitely paid dividends last year in the playoffs. Hopefully the new QB can step in and be solid. Conference will still be right there for them and the postseason is 'nother ball game. -
Lol, I knew that comment would rile you up if you saw it.

Duneland athletic conference week 1
scarab527 replied to Piratefan101's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
This is the big key for the Niners. Their line struggled quite a bit last year as well until they shuffled some guys around, and the Rensselaer game was a big turning point when they didn't throw a single pass and put the entire game on the running game and the line. I fully expect the Niners to lose these next two weeks (CP really impressed me last week and Crete-Monee is a very good program that just played in IL's Final 4). However, they should be able to build some postseason momentum when the play EC and then start conference play. I didn't see the QB play but according to Skinner he and Ballentine were splitting 1st team reps over the summer so maybe there won't be too much of a drop-off. Was the freshmen you're talking about the Bolz (unsure of spelling) kid?
