  1. More will be announced in the coming months, but Memorial will host Castle in a Wk 9 "throwback" game at historic Bosse Field on Oct. 18. Many don't realize several Evansville high schools used to play football games at Bosse Field until the early 19070s, including Rex Mundi (closed in 1972), Central, North, and Memorial. Memorial hosted Belleville IL West in 2011 in the first football game there in 40 years. If it weren't for having to move the goal posts (literally) from our practice field to Bosse Field, we just might try to do it every year. Should be a fun night.
  2. I was also a freshman at Purdue when he was there. Saw him get driven off on the field cart with his mom.
  3. Daniel Wodika. Single-handedly beat us at LOS. He was pretty incredible. I think he was named HC at Johns Hopkins recently. He should be on my all-time list too...
  4. Scheller is a great mention. Kid could do it all and flat out put GS on his back to help raise the expectations and set the stage for a lot of success that followed. I'd add the QB that followed him, but I can't remember his name. That kid was a leader in every sense. Unfortunately, the SF took away what would have been potentially some great Memorial - GS match-ups in 2019-2021, which meant I didn't see Allen except his freshman year in 2018. My list in the last 10 years would be Lindauer at #1. Michael had a great knack for spreading the ball to several WRs, but also knowing when to get the ball to Branson Combs and let him make plays when it was nut-cutting time. All-time (locally) I'd say #1 Jake Schiff of MD, #2/#3 the McIntosh brothers from Reitz and #4 Grant Gribbons from Memorial. Although Memorial never won state with Gribbons, he led us to 2 huge wins over very good Chatard teams in 2008 & 2009 and helped elevate our program, similar to what Jordan Scheller did at GS. Fun topic, Titan32...
  5. Agreed, including a ticked off coach or administrator from my own school. Take 'em all out of the equation.
  6. Do you think the IHSAA doesn't regulate transfers now? Do you think having a 1 free transfer rule helps p/p schools more than public schools? I'm interested to hear your opinion. A rural school like SR probably doesn't run into this very often, but in Evansville and the immediate area we do. Titan32 knows the situations better than I, but a couple of years ago 2 Castle kids switched to GS. One had to fight the IHSAA all the way to the top. The other didn't. As I understand it, the only difference was 1 had some family support that allowed him to jump through the right hoops and the other kid didn't. I use that example only because it was 2 kids leaving the same school, going to the same school and at the same time. It was crazy. We've had a few kids transfer in or transfer out in the past couple of years. Some had to fight and some didn't This kind of rule eliminates the BS and takes the decisions from the hands of people who are sometimes not looking after the best interests of the kid (regardless of what they say). I feel very strongly that at Memorial we should NEVER block a kid from having full eligibility somewhere else, even if the reason for the transfer is purely due to athletics. Why punish a kid because he/she wants a change of scenery?
  7. I don't see it that way. How does giving every kid a 1 time free transfer diminish the importance of education? A kid who wants to transfer to a more challenging academic environment and not lose athletic eligibility now might be stuck if his family can't afford to move, hire a lawyer to fight the IHSAA, etc. Isn't every kid having that freedom a good thing as opposed to just a select group? Profound....
  8. Any kid can change schools. But only athletes are subject to not being able to participate at the highest (varsity) level by an arbitrary set of rules. This change would allow a kid who maybe blossoms between freshman and sophomore year and now has potential to advance to the next level in right environment, but his family can't move or do anything some families do to circumvent the current rules. He gets 1 free transfer.
  9. It hasn't been reported (to my knowledge), but I understand the topic was brought up to some extent in the recent meetings. I don't have any knowledge of the finances at any school except my own, but it seems to me the big difference between NIL in college and HS is that the NCAA and colleges profit off of the athletes. To my knowledge there aren't any TV contracts, etc. that generate significant funds for HS conferences and jersey sales, etc. for individual schools. I don't see that at our school. We pay to have our football games streamed on Indiana SRN, not the other way around.
  10. Does North Posey lose a lot from last year? As usual, I expect GS and HH to battle it out for Big Division. Don't know much about TC or SR, other than SR always seems to be at the top of the Small.
  11. I was not aware of that. Our booster club (now) operates under the supervision of the AD so the money raised is used how the AD wants, not how individual boosters want. We used to have a bunch of sport groups hitting up the same people over and over and it became a real problem. Does GS have separate clubs for each sport?
  12. As long as there is no undue influence, I support this. Coaches can leave for better opportunities, so why not kids? I like that it takes the IHSAA out of the process for determining whether a transfer was for athletic reasons or not. Why does it really matter? Coaches leave for better positions all the time.
  13. 10k per year. If you aren't raising that you need a new AD. LOL
  14. Pretty sweet, huh? We love it. The Gibco Motor Express family "sold" it to the school for $40k, which the booster club is paying, so it won't cost the school a dime.. DPatrick did the wrap for free. AD said a couple of weeks ago that for just spring sports it's already saved us over $15k.
  15. And on almancasports.com it shows that MD and PCHS played 8 times from 1970-77, with MD taking all 8 contests. I always forget that Rudy has it all right there at the click of a button...
  16. Did GS drop to 2A in late 1980's? Memorial played GS in 1985 as a 3A school.
  17. I have definitely seen our program moving in this direction. It looks much less like a travel team than it did 10 years ago. I guess one drawback of being an IHSAA sport is no Sunday participation. Do some places have LAX (about all I know of the sport 🙂) games on Sunday?
  18. Probably so. MD and GS both caught some breaks having "success" across two different classification cycles to avoid being bumped up. Another interesting tidbit. I know Mem & SR have never played before (at least at varsity level). Are there any other schools that have never played? The ones I think might be a possibility are MD - GS and/or MD - PCHS.
  19. Different than what I've heard our coaches say too. They want to be fully recognized by the IHSAA.
  20. I bet MV and PCHS won't vote for seeding until this Sectional changes... I think the best we could ever hope for is seeding the top 2 teams in each Sectional, put them on opposite sides, and blind draw the rest. That really makes me no difference either way.
  21. That's easy.. As much as I would hate to have to play the Raiders on the road, I have heard a lot about a pork chop at the c-stand for many years, so there's always a bright side I guess...
  22. With a field this deep (potentially), this might be one of the few Sectionals where not having seeding probably isn't a big deal, unless of course MV draws PCHS. Otherwise I expect all 2d games to be very competitive...
  23. I don't know enough to rank any teams at this point, but I have to think HH is the favorite as the defending 3A South rep returning some tremendous players. GS and SR are always tough. Memorial should be solid if the QB is back. MD will be improved. Don't know what VL has coming back, but they lose a very good QB. MV and PCHS can't love this at all. If I understand the SF points correctly, if either HH gets back to LOS or EM wins a Regional, it would mean a bump up to 4A in 2025. And, as Titan32 previously said, GS could be 4A in the next reclassification. This could be a 1 or 2 year deal at most, so we fans better enjoy what will be a tough, tough sectional and some great HS atmospheres. I believe its the first time HH, GS, SR, MD and Memorial have all been in the same sectional.
  24. Interesting back stories. Thanks. Those damn cheatin' publics... LOL You have any insight on the NIL and transfer topics that were evidently discussed?
