No question. MD has an exceptional wrestling culture that is very unique to Indiana and definitely strengthens the football program. The MD JV wrestling team could probably beat most varsity teams (at least in SW Indiana). However, it seems (at least to an outside observer) that a lot of MD's "elite" wrestlers do not play football because they wrestle year-round. MD has more wrestlers than most 2A-3A schools have football players.

The IHSAA kicked around a variation of this kind of proposal in the early 90s.

MD has 13 in wrestling and 2 in football under Coach Goebel -a mark that is unlikely to ever be surpassed.

Wow, that's a great pic! I'm my memory is correct, I think our program started around 2010 or so. Memorial and Castle were the first schools in the Heavensville - SW Indiana area to have teams. -
Me too. It will be interesting to see where he ends up. Might he follow Brohm to Louisville?

LOL. I've tried to enjoy it over the years, but it just doesn't spark much interest. Part of that is inevitably due to it being a relatively new (last 10-15 hrs) sport down here. -

I doubt there were many experienced candidates interested. Having 4 coaches in a span of 6 years with a precipitous W/L drop-off the last 2 seasons doesn't paint a picture of a healthy program.

I think the gap in the standings last year was a bit misleading. I didn't think Reitz was head and shoulders above Memorial or MD. Reitz will be tough to beat in the SIAC this year though. They should be better and the other top tier programs may fall back a bit. Nevertheless, if I were a gambling man, I would still bet on East Central in the Regional. And Screagle is no troll. LOL

I knew Rupp decided he didn't have time right before last season and Cross stepped in, but I wasn't sure if it was a permanent thing or not. Cross is a great OL coach. I don't much about the relationship either.

The problem at Central is a coach who tries to instill discipline and accountability has no chance.
