  1. Explain the rationale for putting 1A p/p schools like Ev. Day School, Ev. Christian, Washington Catholic, or Vincennes Rivet in 2A?
  2. I agree. A regional and a state title in back to back years means a bump, regardless of whether its the same cycle or consecutive cycles. Ev. Memorial won 3A state in 2017 and lost at 3A state in 2018 - bumped to 4A in 2019. Mater Dei lost at 2A state in 2021 and won 2A state in 2022 - no bump to 3A in 2023. That's a bad system.
  3. Memorial has some big holes to fill. I heard we had a OL/DL move in, so that should help. We will be good at QB and WR, but the success of the season will come down to the trenches. We also have a pretty good schedule at Enlow (Jasper, North, MD and Lincoln all at home). I'd like to see us keep our 6 game win streak against MD going, which I believe is MD's longest L streak to a city school since they dropped 6 in a row to Reitz from 2005 to 2010.
  4. Yeah, I would agree. I don't see MD having a losing record in the SIAC.
  5. I was hoping he might pick IU...
  6. Kind of figured he would follow Coach Brohm. Anybody hear if any other schools reached out to him?
  7. Probably less travel time than the 2019 game at Evansville Mater Dei, which might have been the longest travel for a HS football game in IHSAA history...
  8. Different in my opinion. I'm not aware of the Catholic Church running assimilation schools (under the guise of missions) in Ireland the same way they did in North America and other places that contributed to the persecution of native people (culture, language, etc.). Plus, ND's mascot is the leprechaun (a fairy in Irish folklore) and not a depiction of a person from Ireland. Indian mascots are often based on inaccurate, derogatory and/or stereotypical representations. That's my soapbox for the day...
  9. Hopefully not. The Catholic Church doesn't have a great track record with indigenous peoples.
  10. No question. MD has an exceptional wrestling culture that is very unique to Indiana and definitely strengthens the football program. The MD JV wrestling team could probably beat most varsity teams (at least in SW Indiana). However, it seems (at least to an outside observer) that a lot of MD's "elite" wrestlers do not play football because they wrestle year-round. MD has more wrestlers than most 2A-3A schools have football players.
  11. The IHSAA kicked around a variation of this kind of proposal in the early 90s.
  12. MD has 13 in wrestling and 2 in football under Coach Goebel -a mark that is unlikely to ever be surpassed.
  13. Colts signed Cathedral alum Emil Ekiyor as UFA.
  14. You'll not see nothing like the mighty...
  15. Wow, that's a great pic! I'm my memory is correct, I think our program started around 2010 or so. Memorial and Castle were the first schools in the Heavensville - SW Indiana area to have teams.
  16. Me too. It will be interesting to see where he ends up. Might he follow Brohm to Louisville?
  17. LOL. I've tried to enjoy it over the years, but it just doesn't spark much interest. Part of that is inevitably due to it being a relatively new (last 10-15 hrs) sport down here.
  18. https://www.pdclarion.com/news/state/best-high-schools-for-sports-in-indiana/collection_16aa806e-22a9-5e5a-9e06-f690d45095bd.html#1 Never heard of Stacker or Niche, but thought this might be something to get us through the boredom of baseball, LAX & track while we await the return of football.
  19. LOL. Are you dragging up the old Casey Whitten allegations from the late 80's? There are very few people on the GID who were even alive when that was the buzz.
  20. Rule 20 prohibits such contact.
  21. "Coaches" or a certain coach?
  22. I doubt there were many experienced candidates interested. Having 4 coaches in a span of 6 years with a precipitous W/L drop-off the last 2 seasons doesn't paint a picture of a healthy program.
