  1. Its mostly just clickbait... I think last year there was a pretty good drop off after MD, maybe North. You could argue there was a drop-off between 1 and 2 too. Unfortunately we'll never know. I see no real benefit to a long road trip to Indy (every other year). Dealing with a long bus ride in the tournament isn't rocket science. I think we'd rather have a good match-up with a local rival like GS or HH every year, and save the charter bus rental. Its not about exposure or media coverage.
  2. I would say in the SIAC it would have to be Jasper. It has no enrollment competition from other schools (public or parochial), has top-notch facilities, great community support (financially and otherwise), and a great tradition in several sports. Plus, as the only high school in that school corporation, I imagine they can pretty much do whatever they want when it comes to compensation to retain and attract coaches. Also add that their former AD now is an assistant IHSAA commissioner.
  3. $0.00. Only recruiting by Hurley comes on the field.
  4. Is that what Hurt did when the two Castle kids transferred to GS? Pretty sure he has no problem accepting kids who transfer in from other schools.
  5. Well, as Groucho Marx once said, "I refuse to join any club that would have me as a member." Absolutely priceless...
  6. What do you consider a country club sport? I'm curious..
  7. If the SIAC added GS, the two divisions could be EVSC schools (Reitz, Harrison, Bosse, North & Central) and non-EVSC (GS, Castle, Jasper, Mater Dei and Memorial). I would be all for that. GS could obviously compete for conference titles in some sports (football and softball), but do you think GS would want to take on the higher level of competition across the board? I'm guessing GS is in the hunt for a PAC title in just about every sport, but that wouldn't be the case in the SIAC.
  8. C'mon, keep digging. You're the SIAC scoop man...
  9. Who is the source? (Other than a guy who can't spell Vincennes) This wouldn't surprise me though. Sort of felt like it was coming at some point because Vincennes hasn't really competed in any sport since they've joined.
  10. It makes no difference in the other sports as far as I can tell, but I suppose an even number of teams makes football scheduling easier and preserves the final week "rivalry game" concept. Personally the rivalry week thing is a little over-rated to me and isn't something that has been around forever. In the SIAC it didn't exist until 1992. Before then, the schedules varied. For a lot of years before 1992 we played MD in the final game.
  11. I agree. It is dead. It wouldn't surprise me if at some point VL drops (or gets dropped) for various reasons (travel costs, lack of competitiveness). That would be the time to add Gibson Southern if they were interested. Until then I see it staying exactly how it is. Adding two Bloomington schools would be a colossally bad decision by the SIAC ADs. 240 miles round trip in a bus or a mini bus isn't easy travel unless academics are unimportant to the mission of the school.
  12. MD would object to being stuck with all those teams except GS. Boonville can't compete in the SIAC in any sport except softball and just isn't coming in. MV (who has been suggested) really doesn't add much value. Plus, adding schools limits scheduling flexibility of the top schools in other sports too. Because there are a lot of moving parts, I don't see the ADs adding schools just to tweak a relatively minor, football-only issue.
  13. It would require adding at least 2 more conference schools, which I think is very unlikely. I like the idea of having the ability to schedule non-conference opponents, but also know we had trouble finding opponents at various times.
  14. I don't follow how 600 enrollment Memorial can be closer athletically to 1965 Castle if 500 enrollment MD is closer to 700 GS? I think you exaggerate the number of athletes at Memorial. I'd bet the Memorial football roster has less soph-seniors than MD and GS.
  15. Both would be good additions IMO, but Boonville isn't having any of it.
  16. I would love to see the SIAC go to this model in football, but I will be surprised if it ever happened. Based on enrollment, the divisions would be: Biggie Castle (5A - 1965) North (5A - 1684) Reitz (4A - 1378) Harrison (4A - 1250) Central (4A - 1165) Smalls Jasper (4A - 1105) Bosse (3A - 800) Lincoln (3A - 735) Memorial (4A - 609) Mater Dei (2A - 497)
  17. I knew daddy sang bass, but I thought momma sang tenor.
  18. Everybody needs a hype-man and you are clearly his.. LOL, mind games? Like Jedi stuff?
  19. Yep, that was a joke. He was a beast. And the promotion is what has made me wish they would give the award to the East Central PK and call it Ms. Football...
  20. No idea about the All-PAC stuff, but in 2018 (his freshman year) GS lost to Ev. Memorial in the Sectional title game. In 2019 (his soph. year) GS lost to HH in Rd. 2.
  21. As was Ev. Reitz Memorial, although our last teaching brother (Br. Eugene Phillip) died in 2009 after 40+ years at our school. I inherited his Schwinn bicycle. It's so old it was made in Chicago. I ride it most home football games at Enlow Field. Did you ever attend the annual recruitment weekend for potential brothers held at Notre Dame? I went in 1986, although Br. Eugene didn't tell us it was a recruitment weekend. He didn't drive so he just wanted a ride to ND to see his fellow brothers from the other schools.
