Yes we were approved for upgrades for the entire South Harrison School Corporation last fall. Athletic upgrades include turf on the football field this summer (soccer and football will both play there), new track after the turf, and new locker room facilities ready for the 2025 season.

With Corydon and Salem changing over to turf, who all will still be grass in the MSC?

I have heard of a couple of schools who are projecting their futures and considering staying in the MSC or moving on. I agree the bigger conference would be fun and probably more beneficial to schools, but ADs and coaches have to examine what the IHSAA does in regards to realignments and sectional draws. In other sports that might be easier, but football sectionals can be draw in a variety of different ways which could affect schedules and what coaches want. This is just my two cents.

That's a good one. Thanks for the knowledge.

I read a lot of questions and articles regarding officiating being a basketball official (JV and lower) and football coach. Anyway I have a few questions: 1. Will crews who get rated very low say average a 1.5 on the new scale (not tournament ready) still get a playoff game because there are not enough crews? Or will games get moved? Would the IHSAA take a crew out of the Northwest and send them to Southwest? 2. Will the IHSAA move to a "basketball" type system where they break up crews and get the "best" individuals to referee tournament games? 3. What would you do if you were a good young (or old) official on a low scoring crew? (Leave the crew, would you get recruited to another crew, etc.)

Corydon Central Looking for Assistants
Coach_K replied to Coach_K's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Corydon Central is still looking for paid assistant coaches at the high school and junior high levels. We just posted open teaching positions at the high school in English and Social Studies. If interested please email myself and our AD John Atkins. luke.keller12@gmail.com atkinsj@shcsc.k12.in.us -
It was my understanding that they had to bump up due to success factor (Regional and State). So they chose to go to 3A over 2A, I don't know why. Due to success factor rules, they will not be able to drop to 1A, but could drop to 2A. Again this is how I interpret the rules and maybe I am wrong.

Is $ the Answer to the Shortage of Officials?
Coach_K replied to Bobref's question in Officiating Forum
I have talked to numerous basketball officials, and for those of us who are "younger," officiating takes time away from the family. I got into basketball officiating because when I was an AD there was a mass shortage in my area. I've been an official since 2016 with no problems of filling up my weeknights. When I had no kids or even 1 my wife was fine with me officiating. But as time has progressed and now I have 3 kids, I have taken less and less games because I want to see them, help them with homework, and tuck them in at night. I have games scheduled for next year, but I am thinking about hanging up the whistle because I want to be around my family during the winter. I won't be able to in the fall because I coach football and coaching football is more important to me than officiating. I do not know what the answer is but here is my shot (these are in no particular order): 1. Money 2. Time- (I dont know how we make it better) 3. Coaches (How they treat officials) 4. Fans (How they treat officials) 5. Number of games- (with the number of travel teams rising in all sports except football, what is more important the school season or travel season) 6. Acceptance of officials (Male and female) 7. Official education/transparency (tell officials why they are getting a lower rating from a coach or school or not advancing in the tournament) I am sure there is more, but that is my two cents. -
Don't discount South Spencer. They play a killer schedule in the PAC. We will learn more about them this week when they play NC Farmersburg.

Princeton at Gibson Southern
Coach_K replied to Titan32's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Coach Schnurr took on a tough gig, but knew what he was signing up for. He has had a lot of meaningful conversations with the team this season. Gibson most likely (never say never) will win this game easily. But the culture around the Princeton football program is changing. There has been some growing pains, but I think you will see some improvements moving forward. -
https://www.14news.com/2022/08/26/princeton-tigers-kick-off-sunrise-school-spirit/ The Tigers are getting excited about tonight's game and Kicking off the Sunrise School Spirit canned food drive! We had a lot of kids here early to participate in the festivities! Go Tigers!

I think we are going to continue to see a shift with the NIL and transfer portals. USI being in the OVC will give them enough exposure to seeing multiple recruits come in to the basketball program. How will USI's storied XC and track programs perform in D1? What about baseball and softball? How will the transfer portal affect the other non-money making sports? USI should 100% get football. The amount of talent in Southern Indiana, Southern Illinois, and Northern KY could give USI a very solid base, then add a few kids from an Ohio, Texas, Florida, or California and it could be awesome. There is a lot of untapped talent here! And, I believe there is enough interest, plus you could make some awesome facilities to go along with the new basketball and volleyball venues. It is amazing the amount of money the school has invested in the Rec and PAC and academic facilities, but just refuses to add football. I think there would be a huge uptick in enrollment. USI has newer facilities and offers mostly the same majors as ISU, I would think that would make it more appealing.

Stall ball is a great equalizer for team with fewer players. But it is boring (speaking a fan and basketball official). If it gets implemented, it affects the girls game too, something keep in mind. It is immensely difficult to put the toothpaste back into the tube. For some schools, 7 minute JV games are too much. We are getting 4 more minutes of sloppy basketball for some teams. I have hear no discussion of going back to a 6 minute JV game. My point is, if a shot clock is passed, it will be incredibly hard to get rid of in the future. All that being said, I am for a shot clock. I think the 35 sec. proposal is good, but I think 40 is better.

The problem is that the IFCA made the proposal to the IHSAA about limiting contact. Other sports were supposed to submit their proposals, but they were not required to do so. The IHSAA has not made a unilateral decision for the other sports so football is main sport to be penalized. There are a lot of wacky rules from the IHSAA, but in the end the ADs/Principals actually get the final vote.

Club and Varsity Sport
Coach_K replied to Punttheball's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I hate club sports, but unfortunately that's where a lot of sports are heading. I have spoken to an AD and he thought that's the future, whether right or wrong. Softball actually has a rule that is no club ball during the season. I don't know the specifics but I have talked to multiple softball coaches who have confirmed this. Basketball and Volleyball are ridiculous! Those kids are out there all the time! PAY TO PLAY! -
Neutral Semi-States - the challenges
Coach_K replied to oldtimeqb's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I think it would be cool to do the 2 games, and my solution would be at the college fields. Sure you might not get IU or PU, but there are a lot of smaller schools ISU, Butler, Ball State, not to mention D2, D3 and NAIA schools. Obviously, this would be dependent on their seasons/playoffs as well. -
Neutral Semi-States - the challenges
Coach_K replied to oldtimeqb's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
For Basketball, there are 2 or 3 games at one host site. With football there would only be one game. If a school doesn't draw much crowd, bad weather, etc. the host school could be on the hook for costs including the cost of tearing up a field (although if turf not likely). I am just trying to play devil's advocate.
