  1. Neither one of the teams seems to have entered stats yet on the game, but looks like one in the 3rd quarter and one in the fourth according to the scorer at the game. Given the other activity, that seems about right. LCC had two strip-fumble recoveries in the 4th and a sack that led to a punt ... all by Kline. Add in a turnover on downs at the end, two picks for the Knights, including a pick-6, and a turnover on a missed field goal, plus the five scores and it looks like Speedway had roughly 13 possessions for the game and lost four of them directly to the defense taking them away.
  2. So it looks like LCC will be meeting up with Scecina in regionals. It's been a 9-year wait, but these two will meet again albeit it won't be in LOS. These two met in both 2011 and 2012 at LOS with LCC winning both including the last meeting, 14-0. Both teams were also in the first class of SF bumped teams, with Scecina being the poster school for teams being bumped, but not having a blue ring in the process. This is a game of teams that have a history of being-there-and-doing-that although Scecina's been a fixture in 2A since the move via SF and also have a couple of state titles in 2A from previous enrollment numbers back in the 90s. LCC's no stranger to post-season play. Fun fact: LCC's the only Indiana high school to make 5 or more visits to state and never come home with a red ring. LCC's last foray into 2A saw them drop a second round sectional match by 4 points to eventual 2A runner-up, Tipton, in 2013 and a semi-final by 3 points to eventual 2A champ RCHS in 2014 before returning back to 1A in 2015 to a state title. Scecina comes off a sectional championship beating previously-unbeaten Centerville. They have losses this season to 2A Speedway, whom LCC just beat last night for their sectional title, 2A Heritage Christian, and 1A Lutheran who is likely the favorite to represent 1A South. LCC comes off and three-quarter back-and-forth mixed with a shutout 4th in their 56-35 win over Speedway. LCC also has losses this season to 3A Tri-West, 3A West Lafayette, and two loses to 2A Tipton. Calpreps says Scecina by 7, but the game's being held at LCC, so I'm thinking maybe closer to a 3-point cushion for Scecina. LCC will benefit tremendously if they can bring that defense that played in the 4th quarter last night.
  3. Nope, but would probably help to cook it more. 😀
  4. LCC turns on the defense in 4Q and outscores Speedway 21-0 in the 4th after playing back-and-forth all game long ... winning 56-35. Player of that quarter had to be LCC's linebacker, Kline. I think he's listed as 5'8" and 145 lbs. He's just the latest in a long line of "pound for pound" players, small guys who hit way above their weight, coming out of LCC. Guys like Preston Hensley, Jordan Turpin, Daniel Roach, Travis Smith, Scotty Trout ... who started at LCC and finished at Jeff, Mike Murphy, Stu Corcoran. In the 4th, he had, across three Speedway offensive plays in a row, a sack, a strip, and a strip. I recall back on the first day of equipment handouts when Kline was in 3rd grade, my offensive coordinator and I were going down the list of kids to assess what we had in terms of numbers. We got down to Kline's name and my OC lets out a laugh. He then relays to me a story about Kline that kind of tells you everything you need to know about him now and then. My OC said he was at an LCC basketball game and noticed some commotion going on over to side. He says, as he get closer, he notices a smaller kid in a tussle with what seemed like roughly five 5th grades. Turns out the smaller kid was Kline as a 2nd grader. My OC said his first inclination was to jump in there and get Kline out of there as it was clearly a mismatch of 5-on-1 and a size differential. As he got closer, he said he changed his mind and thought he might have to save the 5th graders from Kline. Kid's tough as nails and doesn't have an off switch.
  5. Just amazed by that Pioneer score. You gotta go back to 2009 to find the last time Pioneer was blanked in the tourney ... and that was against LCC who was ranked #1/#2 that season when they played. North White, LCC, and Seeger are the only teams to shutout Pioneer in the tourney. LCC and Seeger picked up blue rings those seasons and North White finished with a red. Wonder if that's in the cards for LaVille?
  6. Now final. LCC with its second sectional title in three seasons of SF 2A.
  7. I missed that score. Could you repost 😀 Lord, I apologize for that there.
  8. Merrillville sneaks in another score with 5 seconds in the half. Up 29-0 over Jeff.
  9. By this time in sectionals, the meek should be gone ... at least if it was seeded.
  10. I think that they can petition up at any time; however, the action is actually taken in the year when the re-classifications are actually implemented if granted.
  11. The three schools that I have direct ties with have not really been impacted in sectionals, good or bad, by SF. This season, LCC is playing for a sectional title tonight in 2A and would likely also be doing in 1A this season if they had stayed in 1A. That story would have changed though in their very first season of SF bump when they lost to Tipton in the second round of sectionals in 2013. Had they stayed in 1A that year, they most likely would have played for a sectional and, most likely, had ended up at LOS if not five-peating. In the three seasons, so far, where LCC has played up, it has likely impacted their sectional chances, to the negative, 1 out of 3. Jeff is 6A, so it doesn't directly impact them and, even by butterfly effect of someone else moving up, they haven't been impacted yet as they haven't gotten out of sectionals since 2002. Harrison is 5A and has had better post-season production that Jeff; getting out of sectionals in two of the last five seasons. Zionsville has been the culprit the last two seasons.
  12. 3 POINT GAMES Eastbrook @ Tipton Central Catholic @ Speedway Merrillville @ Lafayette Jeff Hobart @ Lowell Pioneer @ LaVille likely to be "A Farewell To Things" ... at least for this season ... eh @nmsu_aggie, @Donnie Baker, @gonzoron, and @Irishman? Clinton Prairie @ Carroll Hamilton Southeastern @ Westfield Carmel @ Brownsburg Michigan City @ Mishawaka Tri-West @ Danville
  13. True, but last year CC hadn't also lost to Park Tudor. After last season, the spin on GID was that CC was the new dominant power of Ben Davis trolling around in a 1A costume and pilfering the all of the Catholic schools for P/P talent for years to come.
  14. I don't see the sprinklers going. 😀 Asking for a friend ... Lord, I apologize for that.
