I was referring to 6A since the article was about the biggest schools. In 6A Texas, the division isn't set until the teams have qualified for post-season play. you are correct though that, for the lower divisions, 1A-5A, they are split at the time of classification. In Indiana, the issue of divisions usually only comes up in two contexts: PP and public ... which really is more about different leagues than divisions 6A Occasionally there is some discussion about the fact that, in Indiana, there's actually more of an impactful gap between the top and bottom of 1A than there is in 6A, but that rarely gets more than a couple of posts attention at best compared to the other two discussions of division/leagues. I think @Irishman also alluded to the gap in 1A above a few posts up.

Yeah, he was pretty good. They did seem to have some other engines on that team too, but I have no idea at all whether they were also seniors or not. I guess the question with the QB issue in mind is, while the QB will be hard to replace, is the guy coming in to "fill his shoes" closer to 80% or 50%. If it's the former and those other engines return, I think SA does well. If it's closer to 50%, as you state it could mean that he's not really going to be a replacement.

TPCS has made it to a sectional championship for the past three seasons albeit they were derailed by COVID this year. The previous season they lost to LCC and the season before they dropped the championship to South Putnam.

I think it all hinges on SA. Hopefully someone from there can give us a little insight. If they are reloading, I'd take SA to repeat in 1A North. If they are rebuilding, then I think 1A North is wide open ... especially with a couple others that have been in the mix in the past like 'busco moving up. One that I did forget, and this is going to depend on overall top of 1A enrollment and bottom of 2A enrollment, is that Seeger could move down. If Seeger moves down to 1A, I think they might definitely make waves in 1A North.

So proud of Wade Hardebeck from LCC making this list! When I coached him as a youth player he was a big kid that was just trying to figure it all out. He struggled with stances and getting out of a stance, shedding blocks on defense, and even balance and controlling his frame. Easily became winded in sprints. But he stuck with it and as he moved up through the youth program, you could see him absorbing the knowledge and getting better. Started working on technique in junior high and early high school and finally put it all together. He could have easily given up, but he loved the game and stuck with it. So very happy for him to earn this honor!

In 2A, I'm curious to see what Pioneer brings back. I know they are 1A making their second time through the 2A ranks and I think they will lose the Lewellyns ... which will be huge given that Ezra was selected to the Indiana Top 50. Only one other 1A kid, Miller from SA, made that list. Pioneer gave Luers all they could handle this time around. Wondering about Covenant Christian. They are going to lose over 25% of their team to graduation. They had a mix of younger players when you realize that under 15% of that team was classified as junior. Was the strength of the team focused in the seniors or more evenly spread across the team? TPCS had a pretty strong senior class in 2019, but had significant dropoff in 2020. I think Lutheran could make the run this season for LOS. LCC and Pioneer will be in 2A and I think enrollment with put AC there as well, so outside of what SA returns, it might be closer to an open horse-race in 1A North. LCC will be in 2A.

Private schools can compete in UIL in Texas, but they have to be accredited by the TPSAC and also be ineligible for other organizations like TAPPS or SPC ... usually due to their size. If they do play in UIL, they play up a level from classification. As for prestige, part of it is a numbers thing as there are close to 1,300 schools in UIL and only around 250 in TAPPS. Sheer numbers dictate coverage in media and other places. Also, familiarity is less with segregated leagues. Like you said, there are some very good schools in TAPPS, but the PPs that get a lot more attention are like Jesuit in Dallas and Strake out of Houston which play UIL ball in the 6A class. The mix in teams in Indiana creates familiarity which makes it very easy to compare public and private performance. If you split them, eventually over time you'd end up with a lot of "mythical state championship matches" ... no way to see them but plenty of arguments with little basis.

That's a lot of shrinkage in just a 2-year cycle. The were 343 last classification cycle when they dropped down to 1A and about 248 in 2013-2014.

The big problem with that is that it isn't a set grouping. The divisions are only determined at the time of the the playoff qualifications. Texas takes the top four teams in a district to go on to the playoffs. The two with the largest enrollment go in the "big division" and the other two go in the "small division" for the class. You could end up with the four smallest teams in one district qualifying for the playoff. The two largest of those smallest would go in the "big division" and the other two would go in the "small division." The only two knowns are that the top two teams by enrollment in a dividsion would go big and the two smallest would go small if they qualify. Outside of that, the third-largest team in a district could go big or small depending on where they qualify out of the district.

That's why I put recruiting in quotes. I know that they aren't even if others think they might be. Like I said, even if they were, Catholics would be a hard crowd to get them to pay tuition for a non-Catholic education if there's a Catholic option in play. Matter of fact, public schools have more success recruiting Catholics than non-Catholic PPs probably do.

True, but being Catholic, you know that Catholics tend to gravitate to Catholic schools when given the option between Christian schools and Catholic schools ... when there's an all-in situation. I'd suspect that more of what you might be seeing from CC coaches in the stands is scouting rather than recruiting.

He ended up going football and baseball this year after Coach Clouse suggested he look at football. He's definitely happy with football and he's definitely doing baseball, but he's talked about going out for soccer again next season. My guess is he's going to be so tied up with the demands of football and baseball year-round that he's going to limit himself to just the two sports; especially with the demands of summer baseball.

I'd wonder how success they'd be "recruiting" at CYOs? If you're at a CYO and going to a private school, you are likely considering Chatard, Guerin, Roncalli, and even though they aren't technically archdiocese schools, Brebeuf and Cathedral.

Don't count in your mind. I made a statement. As typically tends to happen when you are ranting against the government and trying to make a point, you made an assumption that was incorrect. Actually, a couple of the coaches have asked my son about other positions that he plays given that he's currently about 180 lbs. He's also interested in the linebackers since he's played that before. He's played fullback before, but I'm not sure that he'll get big enough given the size of a couple of other kids that are there ... although he does have a low center of gravity and pretty quick feet from his soccer time. He's starting a bit of weight training for baseball now, so I'll be interested in seeing how big he gets by summer.

Pretty good stretch. There's a minimum of one player of the freshman squad who plays both Harrison soccer and football and Coach Clouse suggested that my son also check out the football team too because of his size and his leg. Not sure how you get hate when the school's soccer coach is working with his players to support other programs within the school.

As much as you seem to think you know about Harrison, apparently you don't know jack. Coach Clouse is Harrison's head soccer coach and has been for a while including Harrison's 2017 state title. He also played his high school ball at Harrison too.

Seriously? That's what you got out of that? If I hate it so much, I'm not sure why my son was doing clinics with Coach Clouse or played the last two seasons as a striker and forward for a K-8 school.

And so far has yet to be a defended thesis, with regard to Jeff and Harrison. Matter of fact, the numbers show just the opposite. Jeff has the lead over Harrison in NCC football titles, W/L for nearly three decades, W/L for the last decade, W/L for the the last half decade, and for the last year especially vs. the SES spread IN A COVID year going 7-0 against teams with better SES.

What the government should be funding and how Harrison somehow or another benefits ... by some really long stretch of the imagine ... are two very completely different things that you have, as usual, managed to distort as somehow being responsible for Harrison's success. So if this is actually true, then I'll again ask the question, "Why is it an issue right now?" After all, Purdue was founded in 1869. BTW, you do realize that your student loan issue is about 7.5% of the total budget and also, the vast majority of students loans are just that, loans not gifts? I'd venture a guess that between money spent in retail from social security or in housing from Section 8 or in pharmacies/hospitals from medicare/medicaid, and everything else that's out there in the economy it's all a wash as to which schools are being "funded by taxpayer money;" especially as any type of "significant" issue. And frankly has nothing at all to do with how Jeff and Harrison compete on the football field. But I'll take your word for it if you'd like to provide numbers showing the disparity between Harrison and Jeff directly attributable to the nefarious government-funding scheme going on and laundered through Purdue to its employees who are overwhelmingly using their ill-gotten gains to the direct detriment of Jeff.

And how many grocery store workers are funded by sales that come from individuals buying food with SNAP? How many private apartment complexes get paid money from folks on Section 8? How many convenience store employees are funded by folks spending their social security money on cigarettes and beer or even gas? As for your "please tell us," aren't you the one that often responds to similar posts with "do your own research?" Already there.
