  1. It's not just college. High schools here in Indiana are using them already for this.
  2. Never had it personally, but I recall going to my grandmother's and asking her about the empty bottles on the front porch and she'd say "those belong to the milkman."
  3. But there would be no need for them to play the season knowing the outcome already, right? 😀
  4. Sounds like a great pick-up line in a bar ... "Hey honey, your way-too-big *ss, looks not overly gross in those two-sizes-too-small jeans. ... Why are you flipping me off? That was a compliment."
  5. 2 Point Game Benton Central @ Delphi Central Catholic @ Tri-West Lafayette Jeff @ West Lafayette Cass @ Pioneer Monroe Central @ Hamilton Heights Northwestern @ Twin Lakes Tipton @ Frankton Western @ Kokomo Attica @ Riverton Parke Frankfort @ Clinton Central Winamac @ Knox 3 Point Game Kankakee Valley @ Rensselaer
  6. I think the main issue with the SF is that the time period is too short. I think that @Irishman is correct in that many teams impacted by SF can sustain success a class up, I also think that's currently only impacting a smaller segment of teams than it actually could. Ultimately, I think SF could be used to help develop programs in addition to just placing programs; however, not with it's current two-year length. I think looking at the idea from a four-year period would blunt the impact that a good class has in the current negative implications of SF and also address some of @MHSTigerFan's concerns too. There's also the impact of scheduling that makes SF, in its current form, less effective. As an example, many teams in Indiana are scheduled within class or competition-level for their seasons ... that is, 1A teams tend to schedule 1A teams or lower-level 2A teams during the season. Those schedules tend to be fairly locked in for at least two-year windows. If they get bumped, the current two-year cycle means that the vast majority of teams are just going to take that two-year "sentence" and ride it out with their current schedules which are already set ... and also less likey to help them tremendously to compete in their new higher class. A 1A team that is really a 2A team, probably isn't going to be as impacted as much ... think of a team like Pioneer or LCC; although LCC's different because its schedule is already different than most 1A programs with several 2A and 3A teams on their regular schedule as part of being in the Hoosier Conference. A 1A team that can grow into 2A is more likely to yo-yo with a two-year cycle as opposed to a four-year cycle where they have more opportunity to strengthen that schedule in respond to the SF bump. With a two-year cycle, most teams that are on the cusp just ride out that two-year term whereas, with a four-year cycle, there may be some upgrading to the schedule that is seen as beneficial ... and possibly help more programs progress via SF.
  7. I'm the same way with Ayn Rand. I've read the vast majority of her non-fiction works and differ with her a great deal ... although I do admire her thought process. On the other hand, I simply love her fiction works with Anthem being one of my all-time favorite reads.
  8. The milk bottle and ball-peen hammer was always the reference that stuck with me ... always made me cringe and the hair on my neck stand up just thinking about that sound.
  9. That's actually not true. Jesuit Dallas and Strake Jesuit in Houston are both UIL members. Also, in the Texas private/parochial league, there are about 230 teams playing ... about 2/3 of the state of Indiana's total football programs.
  10. If I'm not mistaken, you need Admin to delete an account.
  11. I will be interested to see if Harrison is able to make waves and build on last season. They might be a couple of seasons out, but their numbers are looking good and the pipeline also looks good too.
  12. Recall one New Year's eve as a kid in New Orleans when we were at a friend's house ringing in the new year. We were out in front the house shooting off fireworks and my dad had a glass of whiskey. Looked down in his glass and there was a pellet from a shotgun shell at the bottom of the glass My cousins lived around the corner and I wouldn't be surprised if we were "related" to that pellet.
  13. In the 1A threads, we always used to say that the season was not officially started until @Miner_Pride had posted his 1A analysis. Looks like the season is quickly upon us soon.
  14. I'm not sure I'd rank LCC that high. Back in their first foray into 2A, I think that would have been a good pre-season slot, but this time around, while they are a good team, I'm not sure I'd place them pre-season #4. I'd probably put them down around #9. Two quick tests with Tri-West and Guerin will answer several questions pretty quickly in the season.
  15. Shhh! Keep it on the down-low or everyone will want them. 😀
  16. I think The Wheel has their sights on him to replace Sajak when he retires.
  17. Hope to still see you around the HC thread and making picks in the CFWM.
  18. With the Sectional of Death, I'm thinking WeBo got the more "interesting" placement in that deal. At least Chatard will be absent during the festivities.
  19. I'm not familiar with that part of Indy or Johnson County, so I'm just asking ... nothing implied here. Is there a pent-up demand for a private school environment that has an athletic bent in that part of the city? The reason that I'm asking is that Lafayette-West Lafayette has some private school options available, but only one, so far, LCC, has been competitive or viable enough to get to the high school level with IHSAA for football. Faith Christian just announced about 5-6 years ago that they would be competing in IHSAA, but they don't compete in football ... just baseball, soccer, basketball, volleyball, etc. They have an enrollment of around 220 and have a K-8 school as well as the high school. I think they purposely decided not to field a football team. St. James Lutheran has K-8, but no high school. Lafayette Christian also has K-8, but no direct-from-LCS high school. A couple of other Christian Elementary schools in the area have folded in the past decade or so. Faith's been around since 1997 and LCC's been around since 1956. The vast majority of kids who attend Faith, if not all, are non-Catholic, and the vast majority of kids that attend LCC are Catholic kids that came up through the Catholic elementaries ... kind of like you see with the Indy diocesan schools. In both Faith and LCC, there's been more of a community of students as opposed to the high school being an option for the community as a whole. Is there an elementary school or set of schools that feed into Greenwood Christian or is it more of an option for the community?
  20. TPA has less than that; they were around 128 last classification. Prior to last season ... they had to bow out due to COVID ... they'd been to a pair of sectional championships back-to-back and were heading to their third. They also beat Covenant Christian back in 2019.
  21. Just curious if you got a chance to see Roncalli against Harrison last season and your thoughts? I didn't get to see the game in person, but in the game recap, it looks like it was a back and forth game with several lead changes between the teams and Roncalli getting the best of the back and forth before time expired. Harrison's got some growing to do, but am encouraged by the size of the freshman class and their competitiveness. They've typically been comfortably handled by Westfield in previous years, but this Westfield's freshman squad only beat Harrison by 7. Unfortunately for Harrison, I think that by the time that freshman squad hits varsity, Harrison's going to probably be big enough to classify as 6A.
  22. I agree with your stance that the issue tends to be quality as opposed to the quantity issue. To an extent, it's kind of like I explain to high school / freshman when they are putting together their references for their resume. I get so many kinds that will put six or seven references on the reference sheet and then tell me they have a strong list of references because they have so many. To drive the point home, I ask them, what would happen if I call the first six people on their list and the line is busy and I get to the seventh and they answer and that's the only reference that I use ... how will it compare to the first one on their list? The look on their face often tells me that Reference 7 isn't the one they want to hang their hat on and they trim that list. I like the idea of the compact 6-team conference that you mentioned and then a "power" sub-schedule. Preferably those in that power sub-schedule are something that you don't see in the others on a regular basis ... air raid vs. pound-and-ground vs. Swiss Army knife, OH Catholics, etc. Of course, it can also be a traditional rivalry game too.
