  1. Credit to Mike Kirschner and John Hart for kind of setting this as the standard that both Coach Simmons and West have continued.
  2. Great football game. Giants scored 14 unanswered in the 4th quarter to get the win. I really like what this rivalry has settled into. Competitive and fun. 5-5 over the last 10 meetings.
  3. I agree with you, DT. Trojan Dad is a fantastic guy and a great poster on the site. I will miss his insight. He's a class person.

  5. For the 96th time, Ben Davis will face Warren Central on Friday at WC. Both teams are off to uncharacteristically slow starts. Thoughts on this one?
  6. Furthermore, he, I think, has been reinvigorated by the challenge of building something. Mt. Vernon has been a solid program, but he's giving them more success than they've seen. It's a different challenge than what he had at BD.
  7. I am not surprised at all. Mike took this job because he thought he could do something. He's brought the same drive and work ethic he had for years to Mount Vernon, and he's building a monster out there! I couldn't be happier for my friend and former colleague.
  8. But I don't have to wear a mask and socially distance to improve my diet or hold off from drinking.
  9. All of these teams are on Driven T's list for contraction from the contraction list.
  10. But we don't know what the long term effects of the virus are. The virus never goes away. It never leaves the body. When you have chickenpox as a child, the virus stays in your body. Later, it can become shingles. We are essentially 9 or 10 months into this virus. Plus, the virus doesn't stop trying to achieve a new host just because it stays as a mild case. Nope. When viruses are vehicles, then your comparison will hold up.
  11. Sorry. I guess I misunderstood your intention. Of course, that happens sometimes on message boards. I apologize.
  12. Right, but the response was directly to itiswhatitis who seemed to belittle the decision, in my opinion, of the IHSAA to cancel the tournament. It trivialized, in my view, a very serious situation. I'm sure now where we are that different decisions would be made regarding fan attendance, etc. I would also assume the IHSAA would give every opportunity for the game to be played safely if possible.
  13. You realize people may have died because they attended a basketball Sectional, right? https://www.indystar.com/story/sports/high-school/2020/04/18/coronavirus-indiana-lawrence-central-basketball-sectional-10/5145870002/
  14. It's still fairly significant...especially in the Indy area where there are seven clustered here plus schools like Perry Meridian who produce audio only broadcasts and content.
  15. WRGF is Greenfield-Central. I admit I had to look them up, but I was familiar with most of them. I'm not sure that we're all doing high school sports, but a lot of us are.
  16. WBDG (Ben Davis) WJEL (North Central) WEDM (Warren Central) WHJE (Carmel) WRFT (Franklin Central) WEEM (Pendleton Heights) WGCR (Greenfield-Central) WVSH (Huntington) WCYT (Homestead) WGVE (Gary) WJWS-LP (Jasper) WJHI (Jeffersonville) WNAS (New Albany) (The granddaddy of them all...on the air since 1949) WDSO (Chesterton) WKPW (Knightstown) WJHS (Columbia City) WJEF (Lafayette Jeff) WPSR (Evansville) Several other high schools have web only radio stations.
  17. I boostered up the required $30, but I am still seeing ads. Like tons of them. Like tons more than ever before.
  18. So, if you are nerding out and wanting some more Ben Davis Football History... The Giants are 500-369-12 all time. Since 1973, BD has won 72 percent of its games (404-137-0). Since 1984, BD has won 76.8 percent of its games (345-104-0). The Giants are 117-45 all time in the MIC with 11 Championships (7 outright, 4 shared). BD has won 23 Sectionals, 18 Regionals, 11 Semi-States, and 9 State Championships (7 5A, 2 6A). As far as coaching wins go... Dick Dullaghan has 213 wins Mike Kirschner won 95 games Bob Wilbur is third all-time with 59 wins. Lou Parnell is fourth with 31 wins. Tom Allen rounds out the top five with 25 wins. Other Coaches: Bill McClain 19 Red Haviland 15 Jason Simmons 12 John Masariu 11 Ralph Crock 7 Bob Britt 6 Woody Baker 4 Trent Gipson, Sr. 2 Chuck Stuckey 1 Leo Lentz 0 And Bob Otolski is a head coach who never coached a single game. He was hired in 1973 in January, but he was offered an assistant coaching position at IU with Lee Corso. He left without coaching a game. The Giants hired Bob Wilbur instead. That worked out ok! Thanks to Jim Pich for helping me research all of this.
  19. With the win over Pike on Friday, the Giants claimed their 500th program victory. The program took from 1937-1975 to get to 100 wins, but the Giants have won 400 games in the last 45 years. Congratulations to the 16 head coaches in BD history and all the players, assistant coaches, managers, trainers and staff who have made this milestone possible. Win #1 9/23/37 vs. Warren Central, 32-9 (Played at George Washington H.S.) #100 8/29/75 at Pike, 15-14 #200 9/22/89 vs. Terre Haute South at the Hoosier Dome, 47-7 #300 10/23/98 vs. Indy Northwest, 38-20 (Sectional) #400 10/19/07 vs. Brownsburg, 35-13 (Sectional) #500 9/4/20 at Pike, 48-24 Another interesting factoid, BD is now 35-12 vs. Pike, but the Giants are 19-3 at Pike.
