2022 Outlook - 1A
Basementbias replied to FlyingHigh's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
It's all going to depend on how they progress this summer. Hoping they rotate quite a bit. What's helped imo is that they had to be behind Currie, Newy, and Heyerly. Another thing to look for is if anyone can get that extra yard or two that Heyerly was able to get so often. -
2022 Outlook - 1A

I'm hoping most won't have to be 2-way all the time. Yes, the big thing will be the backs will not have as many reps even if we have 2 deep. I'm curious to see if a couple of athletic Freshmen get some good minutes in different roles. The key will be if the lack of varsity experience will be too much to overcome. 2 year window to get another appearance as they have the potential if they work towards it. -

Wrong. This would be a scenario where the 2nd backfield would start for most other schools. It's called depth and a rarity in 1A. They should have a pretty good 2 year run coming up if they stay healthy & together. -

We lose the backfield minus the QB. Do have many capable replacements though. We could actually have 2 sets of backfield if everyone progresses as they should. I'm hoping we try it. -
Ohio did increase I believe. It's went from 8 to 12 to 16 per region for qualifying as of late. Not sure if they are expanding again or not.

New Sectional Assignments
Basementbias replied to Coach Harvey's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
They could drop if they don't win sectional this year? Or do they stay up both years? -

The current AC sophomores that will be Juniors this fall are strong, but only a few have solid varsity minutes. I'm also excited for a few of the Freshmen this fall. NJ has a beast RB/FB that will be a senior. Triton brings back a quality backfield except for one back & others as well. Of course Pioneer, LCC, & Sheridan are AC's kryptonite it seems. -

Pioneer and North Judson. Possibly Triton too. -

Am I wrong that it originally had Pioneer in 2A last night? Now they're back down to 1A today? Does the IHSAA know where anyone is actually going or will this change again? -
My opinion is to use a "timer on" concept like lacrosse used to have to prevent stalling. It eventually just went to a long shot clock. For the most part it is a non-factor as it's around 80 seconds now & resets when a shot on goal occurs (believe that's accurate but could be wrong). The timer on would be a great compromise. No official shot clock, but also prevents absurd stalling from occurring.

Blue Bloods - Indiana High School Football
Basementbias replied to BTF's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Our (Adams Central) problem has always been semi state. 2-12 record I believe. Ran into some talented Pioneer, LCC, and Sheridan teams to name a few. This year it was state that tripped us up. How many titles or runner-up finishes could there have been (besides 1 a piece) if that semi state record was better? -
This area stays away from Sunday & Wednesdays as much as possible bc of church activities. Interesting to see the differences throughout the state.

Feel like it's conference based for the most part. I know Bellmont used to do Saturday mornings in the NHC but I think it moved when the NE8 formed. Could be wrong but our youth games moved from practice field to HS fields after that change. ACAC had been Mondays unless that has changed.

What are common days for Jr High, Freshman, C-team/JV games? I remember Monday for JV, Tuesdays for Jr High, Thursday for Frosh, and obviously Friday for Varsity. If thats common still then Wednesday or Thursday could work well.

Neutral Semi-States - the challenges
Basementbias replied to oldtimeqb's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Rather Indiana stays Friday nights and the Divisions in Ohio that play Saturdays stay the same. It could help my traveling in the future. -
Neutral Semi-States - the challenges
Basementbias replied to oldtimeqb's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Love to see turf college fields that can be close to halfway for each participant. Ohio has little issues finding HS turf fields that are halfway points or close to it. I believe they all bid or request to host a playoff game or games in the preseason. I'd love for regional and semi state games to be neutral locations. Sectionals to be seeded with home field advantage to higher seeded teams. It would make the regular season even more valuable. (Determining seeds could be difficult.) -
Wrestling Question for the Board
Basementbias replied to Thor77's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
@Thor77 you know my stance from Indianamat about my displeasure with the IHSAA as well as the OHSAA. I think the national governing body NFHS needs revamped as well. The biggest problem is not working well enough with the coaches associations of each sport. -
Having coached youth football, the problems come from not using any proper fundamentals when tackling. It comes when kids do not wrap when tackling. They try to big hit or "hit stick" by just throwing themselves at a runner. They aren't coordinated and thus their head gets put in a bad spot. When they use the old school proper technique I have yet to see it personally. The Seahawks tackling I'd maybe use as a secondary technique as I see some flaws. It still has hitting with the shoulder near the head & neck area. Big thing is that kids & adults do not watch the belly button and stay on the back hip when pursuing. That's a major problem as well.

8 man football

Could this be handled like Wrestling Team Dual State & girls Wrestling? Meaning the tournament & season is ran through the coaches association and not IHSAA? Big problem would be enough officials available. -
Playoffs around the country
Basementbias replied to whiteshoes's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Thanks for breaking it down. I was looking at it to see how the team in a town I'd like to winter in for retirement in 30 years did. Believe they were in 7A or 7AA. They lost in the semis. -

Good Luck to Our Neighbors in Ohio
Basementbias replied to Basementbias's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Coldwater falls short to fellow Western Ohio foe Carey & their brutal rushing attack. However Versailles makes up for it and ends Kirtland's 55 game win streak. 2 out of 3 for the mighty MAC. -
Good Luck to Our Neighbors in Ohio

Marion Local finishes the job and wins their 12th State Championship which is the most for any program in Ohio. Coldwater playing against Carey (also not that far) in the next game.
