  1. Sorry, I meant an R player, of course.
  2. That’s right. Once any K player signals during the kick, there can be no advance of the kick when caught or recovered.
  3. I was browsing another high school football forum and came across this picture. I commented that the visitors’ jerseys were illegal, which they are, because they are not white. I got a slew of responses about teams that routinely wear gold jerseys on the road. Is this true, that teams are wearing gold visitors’ jerseys? Hasn’t anyone ever called them on it? https://m.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=4227852583918977&set=gm.363308638759495&type=3
  4. If — and it’s a big “if” under the circumstances — the officials choose to penalize the receivers for delay, it’s a bit tricky. There’s a foul on the kicking team for kick catching interference, which has several enforcement options. But the tricky part is the foul by the receivers comes after the ball becomes dead by rule. (Once any player from Team K gives a fair catch signal, the ball is dead as soon as it is possessed.) Since we have both a live ball foul and a dead ball foul, it cannot be a double foul. The penalties do not offset. Both can be enforced. ”Do over” is not an option. Sounds like the crew thought this was a double foul, but it’s not.
  5. There ate two types of passes: forward and backward. The word “lateral” does not appear in the rule book.
  6. I ate some KFC sitting in the front seat of my car. Long story.
  7. Was this at the Roncalli game? Also note, there is a thread in the officiating forum specifically for Week 2 officiating issues.
  8. We got out of the first week pretty clean. The technical difficulties with the Forum prevented me from posting this earlier. But if you had issues, or questions, bring them here. Bellyaching is fine … as long as the details accompany it … so we can show you where you’re wrong. 🤣
  9. We have received guidance from the IHSAA on shoe issues before. If you’ve got a link to a picture of these shoes, I’ll try to get someone on N. Meridian to look at them.
  10. You better believe it.
  11. Knowing your penchant for precision, I should point out that it is not possible to fumble a pass, backward or otherwise. Fumbles can only be made by those who possess the ball. If a player possesses the ball, it is no longer a pass. It is possible, however, to muff a backward pass … to the same effect.
  12. Springs Valley 21 Mitchell 0 Half
  13. Springs Valley 7 Mitchell 0. 6:00 1st
  14. You’re smarter than I am.
  15. Springs Valley & Mitchell are on a 35 (at least) min. delay for lightning/thunder.
  16. In the category “I’m Just As Surprised As You Are,” I am attending the Springs Valley @ Mitchell game tonight. Anybody here?
  17. I communicated a suggestion to the IHSAA that some sort of informational directive to crew chiefs might be helpful. And it was again made very clear to me that they want this penalized if it delays play as unsportsmanlike conduct, and reported.
  18. I await the groundswell of righteous indignation from the Irish-American community …“crickets”
  19. Bring it on.
  20. Good crew on this game. They’ll need to be. Some “strong personalities” on those coaching staffs. Life on the sidelines Friday night will be challenging.
  21. DK,DC. Haters gonna’ hate.
  22. Oh, it happens, enough so that the IHSAA was discussing this before the season began. There are other problems with this practice, of course. I’d hate to be a kid with asthma in the middle of that cloud. And under the right conditions, it can hang around for quite a while. https://youtu.be/7zE-0KlD4y8
  23. For some reason my “Quote” feature isn’t working.😠 But @oldtimeqb, I have not heard that specific scenario. But I’ve penalized a school because the band wasn’t off the field. And I’ve also seen a few spirited conversations between band directors, coaches and ADs. 🤣 As an aside, if the team is ready to take the field timely, but the field isn’t clear because of the band, it’s a 5 yd. penalty for delay, not 15 yds. for unsportsmanlike conduct. Rule 3-6-4. However, we have specifically been instructed by the IHSAA to treat a “talcum powder delay” as unsportsmanlike conduct.
