  1. But a relevant program nonetheless.
  2. I agree. "Storied" and "best" are certainly two different things. I'm curious if anyone out there has an opinion as to why it could be "arguable." Being from Northern Indiana, I'll admit that I'm a bit biased toward the Irish. Who would the potential candidates be? Alabama, USC, or Michigan? Help me out here..............Knute Rockne All American, Rudy, and?
  3. "Arguably." I've got Notre Dame. Probably depends on what area of the country you reside.
  4. I actually wasn't meaning to compare DeBoar to Weiss. I think DeBoar has proven to be a very high level head football coach. Weiss never reached that status. I think my point was this: If the gamble pays off, then great. DeBoar will have achieved success at arguably the most storied program in college football. And if he doesn't? He still parachutes out a rich man and lives happily ever after.
  5. Agree. No one can blame the guy for taking it. I've just seen many good careers go south going from one gig to another. Doesn't really matter from a monetary standpoint. Charlie Weiss is a good example of getting rich from being a lousy head football coach. At the end of the day, good coach or bad coach, they all end up with one hell of a retirement.
  6. I guess we'll see. To his credit, he has won everywhere he's been. SEC is a different beast though.
  7. I'll never understand a move like this, but that's just me. To each their own. Reminds me of when Rich Rodriguez had the world at his finger tips when he was at West Virginia. It was all downhill from there. DeBoer is pretty revered in Washington and the move to the Big Ten was pretty exciting for their program. Again, to each their own.
  8. I really don't believe what I just said. I think Michigan has a very good team and is worthy of that championship trophy. I just wanted to reel you back into the conversation. Enjoy that champagne, it's been a long time for Wolverine fans.
  9. Congratulations to the Wolverines on their championship and ringing one up for the Big 10. Far and away the weakest field since the inception of the four team playoff. But a championship trophy none the less.
  10. He said "out." I think he means it. He'll be back sooner than later.
  11. I've been to the Big House. It's big, but that's about it. That being said, how nice their stadium is has no bearing on the fact that they are the best team in college football and just crowned themselves champions. What's disturbing to me is what college football has become and the lengths some will go (or is it most) to achieve success (or maybe it's just the income). Money corrupts the majority. I think a coach nowadays will do whatever it takes to secure his seven figure salary and over inflated ego. Many are guilty of it, not just Harbaugh. Anyway, congrats to the Wolverines, and glad this drama filled season is over with.
  12. Lol, there's a lawsuit for everything. I get it though. I work in a professional industry.
  13. Ok, so how about just "pay us back for the last semester?"
  14. A free education is no longer good enough? "We brought you here to play football and get an education that other students are going deep into debt for. Play in the bowl game or pay us back for the last semester." College football (Division 1) is a clown show, no more, no less.
  15. Thank God for high school football. Still clean and pure compared to any other level of play. I think we fans, as much as anyone else affiliated with college football, have sold our souls to the devil in some way shape or form. I think we can all admit that college football has turned into an utter joke. Do whatever it takes to win, even if it's not legal. Where's Bob Knight when we need him? He would have made a great NCAA president. This isn't a slam on Harbaugh, it's a slam on the clown show that college football has become. Just a random thought before gearing up for another season of the Fighting Irish. Guilty.
  16. We all know how Carroll succeeded at the one level.
  17. I wouldn't say I'm reaching at all. I'm just saying there's other coaches out there that could do what he's done with seven top ranked recruiting classes in a row. "Recruiting is coaching," bla bla bla. There's speculation on how Alabama recruits end up at Alabama. In the end, I agree that he's a very good coach. There's nothing more to debate here.
  18. Yeah, but 6-10? Saban is a great coach, I'm just not ready to anoint him as the best of all time like some have. Resources.........lot's of them.
  19. I don't think Harbaugh is innocent, but I also don't believe Saban is squeaky clean. I still think he's the John Wooden of college football. Disclaimer: No dog in this fight.
  20. Parity. Normally it's a two team show.
  21. It's hard to take the Big Ten seriously at this stage. Half of me says Michigan chokes royally (karma is a real thing), the other half says they take the whole thing with an "in your face" middle finger to all of their doubters and attackers. They'll dub themselves champions after their victory over Bama, then comes along Washington, the underdog once again, and the Huskies shock all of college football.
  22. I think you're just giving your opinion as you see it. As am I. I see a coach who had one decent season at Michigan State. Not that it was that impressive since he was blown out twice that season. He was an average football coach at an average football program. But that one decent season propelled him to LSU. Four above average seasons at LSU, but he did have that one championship, kudos to him. He was awful in the NFL at a team that had lofty expectations. Fast forward to Alabama, a program that was tired of losing. I think the Tide made a commitment to win "by any means necessary" at that point. Think John Wooden at UCLA. Good coach, LOTS of resources. Anyway, that's just my opinion. He's obviously a great coach, which is why I have him in the top three percentile of all of college football. I just don't think he's the "football God" that everyone else sees him as. Until every single college program has an equal amount of resources, I think it's hard to dub anyone as "the best." When I say he's Top 25, I'm saying he could be #1, or he could be #25. How could one know for sure? As far as Brian Kelly is concerned, yeah, there's some things about him that lowers him on the likability scale. But he did take Notre Dame to relevance. No he didn't win a national championship, but does anyone really expect the Irish to with their academic standard? He's won everywhere he's been. He'll win at LSU if they give him a chance.
  23. I would argue what Kelly did at Notre Dame with his resources was equally, if not more, impressive than what Saban has done at Alabama. Saban is a good coach for sure. Again, Top 25 is a compliment.
  24. Free cars, lots of cash. If winning multiple national championships by using any means necessary makes you the best coach..............never mind. It's no wonder some really good coaches stay at the high school level.
