I recognize that it’s impossible to discount the weather but having seen both Roncalli and Brebeuf more than once, this is just about the score I would have anticipated in perfect weather. The real “roller coaster” question to me remains, as it did last week, just what is going on at Carmel….not Brebeuf.

Well……I had planned on attending tonight but around 8:00 PM last night an 8mm kidney stone decided it had other plans for me this weekend. So Mrs. Lysander will be in attendance this evening while I will be watching the broadcast on my IPad from Community Hospital.

Honestly IO, the only way I’m watching or listening to IU play football is if somebody pays me. Barring the unexpected, I plan on being at a HS football game every Friday night through Thanksgiving weekend…like most every year.

In the case of Chatard/Hanover Central, travel was certainly an issue - Hanover Central would have to basically drive 3-3.5 hours to get home on Friday then turn around and come back. Between 12-14 hours on the bus for the kids over a 2 day period. Add that HC's only score was a 1st Q kickoff return TD with Chatard effectively shutting down their offense otherwise. It was the smart decision for HC. No conference championship was at stake, its not an historic rivalry, obviously it doesn't affect playoffs (because no regular season games do), etc.

Everyone out there is saying that Roncalli is down quite a bit (at least the geniuses over on the Indiana High School Football Facebook page…and they’re generally, at best, low grade imbeciles…lest anyone want to know my opinion) but I have my doubts. Year to year scores aren’t necessarily a great measure but they did just beat Southport on Friday by a similar score as the past 3 seasons…and Roncalli was legit those last 3 seasons. I’m always going to assume Roncalli is a top 5 or 10 in 4A until they show otherwise. Chatard may not be the undefeated team from last year (who, I think, ended the season in Sags Top 5 or 10 overall) but they will be solid….and a legit test….like most every year.

Truthfully, I’m thinking that will require just a handful of phone calls once some direction is set. Not to say public contributions won’t be sought but once a deal is identified, I’d expect it to be pinned down fairly easily from a financial perspective. The hard part, as always, is finding the deal that works for all those involved….Cathedral, the Seller, the city (from every pain in the @ss/refusenik departmental perspective), IPS (if they’re involved) and the community.

I’m really looking forward to the Columbus North games on September 13 (Roncalli) and 20th (at Chatard). My thought is that it will tell us a lot about all 3 teams.

I’d actually heard that was a possible consideration. Alternatively, I’ve heard buying the Devington Shopping Center either alone or in conjunction with tge Arlington field was a consideration. I’ve little doubt Devington could be bought.

The lighting issue game with Chatard was last year. Probably cost Cathedral a win.

Oh..."education-based athletics" isn't just abandoned....it's LONG abandoned based on everything I've seen here so far. It truly amazes me how little folks here seem to so willingly walk away from this. Sorry. Count me as being opposed and thinking community and commitment (religious or geographic) actually means something... In the end, it really rarely matters just what HS some extraordinary football players went to that ultimately determined whether they played D1....or made it to the pros. The HS didn't mean anything. Talent RISES. More often than not, I read about some kid who played on a team that never made it out of Sectionals that ends up with a Super Bowl Ring and I'm AMAZED....just how could this crappy HS football program end up with a SUPERBOWL player?!?!? Happens all the time. Whatever you folks think, the cream most always rises. Transferring all over the d@mn place might get you (and your HS) a State Ring BUT it doesn't matter a single bit about whether great athletes get College opportunities..... In the end, all this transfer BS is about potential State Rings. I just wish fans, parents and players would be honest and admit it.
