Every time I read about merrillville they mention all the players transferred from Hammond Morton. Is this relevant or are others upset they got so many talented transfers? Cmon kids should be allowed to go to school anywhere they want, who cares if they transferred.

    Cheatin’ Publics.....

  2. Interesting factoid.

Technically, the Circle City Conference (in all sports excepting football) is composed of Bishop Chatard (3A), Brebeuf (3A), Covenant Christian (1A), Guerin Catholic (3A), Heritage Christian (2A) and Roncalli (4A).  1A Covenant Christian and 2A Heritage Christian do not compete against the other 4 schools in football....which is understandable (at least in the case of Covenant Christian).

With that, 4 of the 6 “Circle City Conference” teams won Sectionals ranging from 1A to 4A with the only 2 teams that failed (Brebeuf and Guerin) having lost to Chatard in the gerrymandered Sectional 28.  Frankly, if you had placed Brebeuf and Guerin in separate Sectionals than Chatard, I’d bet the there would have been at least one more CCC team playing in Regionals.

It will be interesting to see how far these teams might progress (if at all) past Regional weekend.

If Dwenger wins  another regional do they bump up to 6a next cycle?

No.  They need to gain a total of 6 points to move up in the 2 year cycle.  They acquired 2 points last year in winning Sectional and Regional.  They would need to win State this year to acquire the 4 additional points needed to achieve 6.

They will be staying up in 5A since they have already acquired the 2 points minimally needed to stay “up”.

There's a good chance a percentage of Chatard students live in the IPS district. They may have been a part of the CYO program and attend a diocese parish, but if they attended their assigned public school they could have gone to Tech.

I understand that and don’t disagree as to the geography, but Chatard has listed on the roster for many years just where kids attended middle school - it’s a major point of pride at Chatard to win with their home grown kids (not that they’d exclude anyone who wants to come).  I’d say well over 95% of the kids listed the last 15 years went to Archdiocese schools.  And it has been pretty rare that a starter has come from the 5% that didn’t go to diocesan schools.  I’d be truly surprised that, if any, there have been more than 3-5 Chatard starters over the last 10-15 years that attended public middle schools and would have gone to Tech.

I’d guess they’ve lost a lot to Cathedral.....couldn’t (wouldn’t) guess as to Scecina....

Coach Chambers is fantastic and the turnaround he engineered at Marion was very impressive.

It's hard to build a feeder program for an IPS school with the way their schools are set up (a junior high doesn't necessarily feed one high school), the difficult socioeconomic circumstances and a very fluid population ... and also with the reality that a lot of the athletes end up at Cathedral, Chatard and Scecina and a few others will head to a charter school (or transfer out of district to a township school).

I must have missed the memo on all those Tech athletes that went to Chatard these last 15 years or so.

As to Tech’s decline, it would seem they have reverted back to the Tech I recall around 2010 and thereabout.  Clearly, they did have something going just a handful of years ago but it’s going to take yeoman’s work to rebuild that program....again.

Likewise nice to see familiar names still keeping up with the goings on of ihsaa football.  Me , i took up hiking been hitting all the local state and federal forests trails in a 50-100 mile radius (and there are a lot in south central indiana) .  A break from politics/covid/riots/ and my own personal misfortunes this year.  And the panthers had a ho hum season in moriarity's retirement season.  I like Gabe Johnson but im not sure how he will fare here. Moriarity had a longstanding familiarity of bhss since his playing days at martinsville were near the time period that saw the panthers go 60-0 in a 6 year period  he knew the ins and outs of the program and how to coach them here.  Even after the districts changed here in 2000-2010 that saw long time panther communities re routed to bhsn mo still came here and had a successful run. Now i feel like south will drift back down into the kirk kennedy / drew wood era's unless gabe johnson is as good a coach as mo which could work out but  not extremely likely.

Hadn't thought much of H.S. football but i did  think about the ci pickem i ran for the last several seasons just wasnt up to it this year.  Good luck to you all . Probably my only log in till next year......

P.S. did 'The Dude'   ever come back? The guy siac guy that had the 812 poll every year?

Good to hear from you.  Like Gonzo, I hope all is well.

No word from “The Dude”, btw, to answer your question....probably been 2-3 years now.

2020 has brought a bunch of firsts......someone going after Ron Raver is yet another one.

I go back a bit.... my guess is a helluva lot longer than most anyone having to do with Batesville or the EIAC.

Raver is a POS.  I’ll let it go at that.

For the record (I think evidenced in my many years here), I’ll generally put in a good word for Satan himself.

  8. I’m always uncomfortable posting anything on the EIAC pages....though I’d guess I’m the oldest ex-EIAC player here.

With that, I’m most likely also the oldest EIAC champion posting here at a couple of sports as well..but I’m just OLD these days....in any event, I just can’t keep up with the language.

I most always cheer for both East Central and Lawrenceburg as EIAC schools (lest they play against Chatard) I really find myself torn as to Mooresville.

I’m a huge fan of Mike Gillin and think there is no more deserving coach in the state.  Add that I’m a friend of Bob Denton.

If East Central wins I hope they tear it up (even against Roncalli).

If Mooresville wins, I hope they tear it up too.

PS - please no one ask me what I think of that Scumbag Ron Raver of Batesville...can’t believe that reprobate has a radio show in Batesville.

finish off with a Bit o Honey

who remembers the audio that TA did with original CJB where CJB attempted to use an old guy voice while talking about his cheffn.   I mean this was maybe 2007, give or take a year...   It was incredible

Can this audio possibly be found?

I corresponded with CJB forever ago.....back in my long ago first years here.....when I thought I might ACTUALLY be able to talk with him as an equal.

I have no illusions these days as to that...and will forever find myself daunted by his dazzling brilliance.

In a perfect world, these days, CJB would give us appropriate guidance.

  10. I was loath to discuss 3A Sectional 28 this year despite the fact I think it is accepted as the most intentionally (no accident there) “loaded” Sectional pound for pound in the State of a Indiana.   In part, because I thought it was a lot more interesting last year because I, frankly, assumed it was the unofficial State Championship last year.....I accept that many might disagree...but I believe that was the case.

    LAST YEAR.

Sectional 28 has taken an interesting turn.  Guerin beating West Lafayette, in my opinion, was the shocker of the week last week as regards games that might actually affect the State Championship.  It might end up being the shocker of the playoffs.....we’ll see.

To be clear, I “get” how West Lafayette not having Yanni Karlaftis has had a major effect on them but, still, I was very surprised at just how Guerin was matching West Lafayette play for play.  Guerin’s win was no fluke by ANY stretch.  They won that game straight up and almost gave it away those last 2 minutes.

I will admit that the Chatard/Guerin game earlier this year was not as competitive as in year’s past but during this COVID weirdness who knows just what is going on.  Still, Guerin needs to make up some ground from the 38-0 loss at Chatard earlier.

More worrisome, admittedly are the Preppies....who I am, maybe unfairly, assuming will defeat Yorktown (I’d love to go to Yorktown again, though, since the last time I was there I was with Procter and Gamble in 1984 at the Marsh HQ).

Brebeuf, in my opinion, outplayed Chatard the first half in the first game of the season before losing 27-14 at home.  Some of their efforts this year seem to not match up with that game but I just view the Preppies as a totally legit threat to go to LOS if they can pull this off.

Okay.  Done. Trying not to be as long (this was long, though) as those “Lipton” posts per Donnie Baker....certainly not as defensive.

This was supposed to be a thread about potential upsets, but unfortunately it has morphed into mudslinging and general ugliness.

    Figure it out, people.

Gip.....errrrr......I think they’ve been having a bit of fun from what I can tell...but who knows what ugly thoughts go through the mind of Donnie Baker and Nowlin.

    Scary thoughts....

Yes, which means a GS win this week has a huge impact on the next 2 years too.  SR would fall back into 2A for the next cycle.  Ev. Memorial will be in 4A for another 2 years.  Chatard will be moving up from 3A to 4A with a Regional title.  The path for GS would seemingly be pretty smooth the next 2 years.

Never considered that but you are spot on.  The game takes on a whole new dimension and level of importance.

GS has the opportunity to position itself nicely not just this year but for the next 2 if everything else falls into place.

Whiting won their playoff game... still singing the same tune ? I bet those young men are not !!!

I wouldn’t worry too much about him.

Dude can’t even grok Muda’s frog avatar even after his own self-contradictory link regarding it.

Those “Woke” would do well to actually wake up.

But then, I am hoping too much.

Has anyone else noticed that the Sagarin  ratings have changed midweek on at least 2 occasions?

Yes.  Usually the updated ratings come in overnight after the Friday games.  As often as not there are yet unplayed Saturday games and often unreported Friday games.  I’ve assumed that was why there was an adjustment.

I think it’s also a mistake (not that you are Making it but I think others are) to assume that after Week 1 of Playoffs and adding 20 new teams everything just magically snaps into place.

If it takes the first 5 weeks of the season for Sagarin to start to make sense (which seems to be the consensus), I think it’s a safe assumption that it’s going to take another 2-3 weeks (minimally) for it to calibrate those 20 new teams.

We have been missing over 6% of the teams season long up to this point.  I think numbers as regards those teams are, literally, going to be all over the place with big moves both up and down until at least Regionals.

I don’t have a very well-informed opinion.  I haven’t seen either team play this year.

But if Mooresville is anywhere near as good  as they were last year, I’m going with them - both in this game and in the regional.

Last year, Mooresville seemed solid at pretty much every position.  Very stingy defense.  Guys seemed to be properly positioned more often than not.  Executed well offensively as well.  O-line was not only massive, but had very good athleticism and footwork.

I have no idea how much they lost from that team.  And I can’t express any thoughts on EC, though they’re obviously really good too.

But it was easy to tell both how talented and well-coached Mooresville was.

Although I have some ties to East Central and Roncalli.....and would like to see both teams do well, I’d really like to see Gillin and Mooresville go all the way.  He is one of the great Indiana HS coaches and he has done an incredible job there. The guy is more than deserving.

I know many are excited about Mt. Vernon (and Kirschner is all class) but I’m thinking that there is nothing but long term up side there.  They have Geist demographics and likely continued growth.  I have to think they are going to pull some HSE and Fishers athletes away in the future (if they already aren’t).  I do wonder if they don’t end up a 5A school or larger in terms of growth and capacity over the next few years.
