  1. Big game this weekend with East Central at Mooresville.  East Central just wore Silver Creek down in a really decisive win against previously undefeated Silver Creek in a delayed game last night.

Still, East Central has (or at least has “had”) some COVID related issues, as I understand it, that might be dogging them.

It’s almost an ashame these two teams are playing this early but then there are a lot of good playoff teams down South this year....and it inevitable some of them are going to bump into one another early (Evansville Central v. Jasper already playing as an example).

GC over WL... that’s why they play the game... love the tournament!  Hate my predictions!

Just a solid win by GC who, for the most part, outplayed WL throughout......despite almost giving it away in those last 2 minutes.  Typical “grind it out” Dilly win.  GC looked good and will meet Chatard at Chatard (for the 2nd time this season).

if you look at their record, they’ve only lost to pretty strong playoff-type teams.  Admittedly a couple of those losses being bad ones.

  3. I’m obviously a Chatard fan.....and the kids have played really well, generally, this year, but it’s not last year’s team (at least, not yet) which could be pretty dominating.  I have to think they will, once again, simply be happy to survive the nightmare that is Sectional 28 again.

My general opinion (just an opinion) is that 3A at the upper end is down a little bit this season as compared to the last 3 years and that there are several teams out there that might surprise everyone.

I do find it really interesting to see just how strong Marian is this year. I came away with the impression last year that they were graduating a LOT of talent.  It doesn’t look as if they’ve missed a beat.

Yes because playing football has resulted in SO many kids catching the sniffles.

Has there been a documented case ANYWHERE in the state of Indiana this fall, of any player catching zee virus by playing football?  Anyone?  Didn't think so.

I would be truly interested in any challenge to DJ’s...err....Phil Lee’s observations that anyone might be able to specifically document.  Even more so, I’d be interested as to any of those cases that exceeded a flu, at worst, or a common cold.

In the case of some here, I’d expect some REALLY hard documentation....since some seem to revel in COVID....and the subsequent politics unfortunately surrounding it.

Some idiot will say it's because they play conference only but last week were #23 SOS and then play 6a Snider and drop to #230. For those who still claim it's because they play conference only just try to explain that. I dare ya.

I find it offensive that you are referring to me indirectly as an “idiot”.

    I’m a “moron”.

Only an idiot would mistake me for an idiot.

I will not jump on the “DT is crazy” bandwagon.  COVID is not going away, many of my daughter’s classmates are in quarantine, and many other football programs not named the IHSAA have been hit hard.  Coach Jeff Brohm of Purdue University has it, many players at Notre Dame have had it, even the NFL has been affected.  We made it through the season, good for us, but why risk anything further?

Honest question, do you think that those kids under some sort of sports/team discipline to limit their exposure opportunities or those kids under no discipline at all as regards exposing themselves to COVID are more likely to catch and spread COVID?

I’d be willing to bet that kids under team discipline have actually limited the spread versus their non-sports contemporaries.

My point being that proceeding with the season actually decreases the risk.

Lol at using sagarin. Very broken this year. Has been great in the past but this years ratings are bonkers

Nothing wrong with Sagarin, MaxPreps, etc., etc.

You simply can’t apply analytics to closed conferences because there aren’t any links to the remaining 310 teams in the state.  It baffles me that folks can’t wrap their head around this.

This year, the SIAC also became a closed conference (along with the SAC).  Now you have 20 teams (@6.25% of the HS teams playing football) from 2 conferences from opposite corners of the State that you really can’t evaluate THROUGH ANY ANALYTICAL APPROACH until post-season play begins.

The problem isn’t with Sagarin, MaxPreps, etc.

If they win regional and get 2 points I believe they will stay up in 3a next year

Yep.  I honestly expect them to garner those 2 points this year.  They have to be one of the favorites coming out of the South to show up at LOS.

I, admittedly, have some personal attachment to seeing either GS or Lawrenceburg coming out of the South but it’s going to be fun to watch the 3A South playoffs unfold....much like 4A.

I think Coach Ralph and New Pal might have something to say about Whiteland being given the sectional title already and I know Coach Kirschner and the Mauraders have something to say about giving Roncalli the regional title.  That said I'd favor Whiteland over New Pal based mostly on depth and health but they won't lie down for Whiteland.   And I'd favor Mt. Vernon slightly over Roncalli in a regional at this point.  Should be fun in both circumstances.

No doubt that, but it’s nice to see Fisher and his kids do well and get some acclaim.  Over the years, I’ve felt they’ve been oft-overlooked.

As to a Roncalli, they have come from a fairly dark place both institutionally and organizationally in a very short time and I certainly wouldn’t want to be playing them at this point.  I, personally, still have some deep issue as to how the school and the Archdiocese have chose to handle themselves this last year (and, likely, going forward) but that doesn’t diminish what Rodenberg and his kids and coaches have done these past few months.  They could very well end up hoisting blue this year.

That said, I’m a fan of both Kirschner (and even more so of Mike Gillin and Bob Denton at Mooresville) and would be happy for any one of several 4A teams to come out of the South  (including East Central who was a rival in my HS days).

If I have any issue at all with Mt. Vernon, as a poor ol’ country kid from SE Indiana, it’s the whole “Geist” component (HSE “light”)...although I, admittedly, live there these days.  That said, Mike Kirschner is a totally class guy and a heckuva coach.

4A is going to be really fun to watch this year.

  10. DT - a mutual friend who was sitting in the stands (and no longer participates on the GID) has asked me to remind you that “maybe it was CG that almost gift-wrapped the game to Cathedral.  The Irish had 183 yards of total offense with one scoring drive.  Their other score was a gimme pick 6.”

To paraphrase, he thinks you had somewhat selective memory and, as most always, he and his wife were sitting in the stands.

He also commented  that it was a classic hard-hitting game.

Don’t kill the messenger.  Or do....I’m ambivalent.

  11. Congrats to:

    5A

Whiteland (Darrin Fisher) who ended the season as #2 in 5A per Sagarin.  My only thoughts are: (a) job well done; (b) sucks to be South in 5A with Cathedral (otherwise a likely Lucas Oil trip) and (c) Jet Sweep, Jet Sweep, Jet Sweep.

    4A

Roncalli (John Rodenberg) who ended the season as #2 in 4A per Sagarin.  Between their coach (who has some modest experience with parochials) and their constant team improvement, I consider them the favorite to represent the South at LOS.  In any event, I expect the 4A South Semi-State to be the State Championship....don’t let me down.

    3A

Mishawaka Marian (Mike Davidson) who ended the season as #2 in 3A per Sagarin.  They compiled an undefeated season (7-0) against some of the best teams (All Classes) that North Central Indiana has to offer (Mishawaka, Penn.....freaking PENN!!!).  It’s hard to be any more dominant as a 3A team (add that one of your late 70s State Championship team’s running backs stood for me post Butler U. in my wedding back in those long gone days...love the Knights...love Bill Baker).

I invite anyone else to join in....but I thought these teams needed to be called out.
