    Cathedral 45, New Palestine 32.

BTW, whoever designed and/or approved New Palestine's recent extravagant uniforms need to be fired.  Having the words 'Dragons' on both the jersey and the pants is redundant and dumb.  Cathedral's now, they look pretty classy:

Could you maybe just not comment for the duration of this thread? For all of us.

    Your intentions are clear.

A little early to be guessing the next Karras or McLaurin (the Jerry Rice story comes to mind) but Cathedral does have solid D1 talent.  Didn't I see they have 6 All City players? Tex Elliott and Shiloh Means are All State, NIKE Opening picks. Looks like they both have tons of offers...probably the most recruited offense and defense players. Hopefully some new kids will get exposure with this playoff run.

D1 talent for sure, and I said that. Just don't think they have any P5 talent like they've had in years past. There's no Ekiyor (Alabama), Stepp (USC), McLaurin (Ohio State), Bortenschlager (Maryland), Werner (Ohio State), Karras (Illinois), etc etc.

Great team this year for sure, better than any of the teams during their 5peat. Just not sure they have the top end individual talent like some of those teams had. That's not a slight by any means.

How does this year's Cathedral team compare to their 4A/5A juggernauts from 2010-2015?

You know, that's a great question. I think those Cathedral teams from 10-15 had much better individual talent, but this team as a whole just seems to be bigger, faster, stronger, deeper, and a very good cohesive group. This years group has D1 talent, but you won't find a Ted Karras or Terry McLaurin who start now in the NFL or any P5 caliber talent, but they play extremely well as a group. Cathedral's best playmaker has been out since the Brebeuf game and isn't coming back, but they've still moved the ball extremely well even with his absence.

Interesting how we are all still so skeptical about our Hoosiers

    I'm not.

Recruiting has seen an uptick the last two years and its starting to pay dividends. We had some heartbreaking endings the last 2 years but we were playing with an extremely young core and they are only getting better with experience.

I fully expect IU to compete Saturday with Penn State and absolutely believe they can beat Michigan at home. Not only do I expect them to beat Purdue Thanksgiving weekend, I expect them to win by 2 TDs. This isn't your fathers Indiana team. They have talent, they have depth, and most importantly they have absolutely bought into the culture that Allen is instilling.

Without a signature win, I'd be surprised if anyone gave Allen a serious look. He still has something to prove at IU. I think there is a better than 50% chance they finish the season 0-3. Now, if he can go 2-1? Then I think there could be some serious interest. I like Allen, I'm just not sold yet.

Born and raised in Indiana, would he even consider leaving IU as long as they are within salary range of other programs?

S&P has IU as a 0.5 home favorite against Michigan and 2 TD favorite on the road against Purdue. Would be shocked if they went 0-3 to end the year.

Has there been a single upset of significance where a big darkhorse toppled an overwhelming favorite?

Zionsville over Brownsburg was a pretty big upset.

But in all-honesty, how do you expect big upsets when some of the best teams knock each other out in the first or second round every year?

Irish fan here, let's get back to topic!

I have 5 predictions that will hold 100% true and I am sure both sides can agree on the following:

    1. These are two best teams in state regardless of class

    2.  It will be SRO only so GET THERE EARLY.

    3.  One of these two teams will be playing in 6A next year

    4. The game will live up to the hype

    5.  The Irish Tailgate / convoy of RV's and motor homes will start showing up at 4PM.

At any rate, for less than 100% prediction....

I think Cathedral will be more prepared for this game than New Pal, given the fact our schedule strength and New Pal has nothing (in certain spots) that we haven't seen so far this year.  We have seen the greatest speed and size especially with the Ohio powerhouse teams each with multiple Division 1A players on each team.  On the other end, New Pal played a very non-competitive schedule which is no fault of their own...their conference is weak, and if they didn't rest starters after halftime and no running clock I am sure they would have put triple digits on most of those teams!  Our common opponent was Center Grove - where we had 146 penalty yards against us otherwise we would have rolled them up big time.  Our OL and DL lines are the biggest New Pal will have seen all year (and last year for that matter) so the comment someone made about their starters staying in the entire game and being something 'new' since week two is a valid point that they will not be used too...something their schedule quality may have hurt them more than help them (like us).  Spegal is an absolute stud...but with our running back duo of Langdon and Hall (i.e. Thunder and Lightening) in addition to Orin's passing game gives us lots of options to tinker with during the game.

At any rate, New Pal is damn good team and well coached but given the circumstances mentioned above I am going with prediction:

    Irish          35

    Dragons   24

Finally weather shows high 37/low 25 degrees 7mph wind.

    I like your prediction!

I think both teams will trade blows in the first half. I believe Cathedral slows Spegal in the second half and gets a few key stops and with their big play ability converts those opportunities to put some separation between the two teams on the scoreboard. New Pal is forced to speed it up and throw the ball. New Pal scores late to make it a one possession game, but the Irish recover the onside kick to seal the deal 38-30.

    Ahh, makes sense.

In contrast  I hear Frankfort High School's weekly menu goes something like this:

    Mon:   Gruel,  hardtack,  weak tea.

Tues: Pizzaburger,  green beans,  weak lemonade.

    Wed. Beans, cornbread,  water.

Thurs:  Liver, onions, donated fruitcake, cool-aid.

    Fri:  Chef's roadkill surprise.

    No Squirrel Chilli?

I can tell you from personal experience that:

Declining enrollment causes program cut-backs and less academic offerings.  It also causes higher tuition, which in turn causes more people to choose the free options.  It's a vicious circle, not win-win.

For a school that has to travel overnight for state (typically schools outside of central IN and typically smaller classes who play early on Friday & Saturday, making state is a big financial drain.  For us, we had to raise a good chunk of money with private donors to help cover costs because the IHSAA reimburses a very small amount of the actual cost of travel, lodging, & food.

Our enrollment at Memorial has declined significantly in the past 3 years (-200 students) in part due to tuition costs and competition from a nationally ranked charter school and good public schools , all of which are free.  In the past 3 years we have several state title appearances - football, boys soccer, and girls soccer (including winning state in all 3 in 2017), and had tournament success in baseball, b/g basketball, volleyball other non-revenue sports (tennis, golf, etc.).  So, while we have arguably had the best overall HS athletic program in the area for a number of years (5A Castle is also very good overall), it hasn't led to an influx of new students coming in.

In Evansville, MD and Memorial are fighting for their lives.

Enrollment is down across the board at most p/p's. It's damn expensive. But schools aren't intentionally capping their enrollment to pad their trophy cases playing in lower divisions against lesser competition which is what Cow Bell is insinuating. MD and Memorial would take 10,000 students if they could.

That being said having watched quite a few games. I would say the fastest player that I have watched Cathedral have to defend didn't come from Indiana. They have seen Elder QB Matthew Luebbe the last 2 years and he was lightening fast. Which is a big reason he leads the GCL in rushing yards and he is definitely not African American. I am sure @IndplsCathedral_Dad can elaborate how fast Luebbe was in person, I only saw game film. He definitely has jets.

Would say Luebbe is more shifty than fast, but he's definitely quick. Elder has a massive offensive line that has two D1 commits, one going to Ohio State and the other to Louisville as well as a 230 lb TE going to Ohio State though he is more of a receiver.

With out the SF how many private school are in 6A or 5A.

LaSalle in Ohio could never win a state championship at D1.

They dropped there enrollment to D2 and now dominate.

They have no plans at raising there enrollment now.

Through all your inaudible rambling this is up there for post of the year. No private or parochial is capping their enrollment to pad their trophy case. Less student=less tuition dollars which is the biggest source of income these schools take in. Don't be ridiculous.
