I had an opportunity to visit the Carmel High School "Freshman Center" this past weekend.  What a monument to government spending and excess.  I'm sure the overtaxed residents of Carmel/Clay township are proud of their boondoggle.     Did you know at the "Freshman Center" cafeteria you can purchase sushi for lunch?

You know it's always a shock when Carmel is listed annually as one of the top 10 places in America to live/raise a family. It's almost as if the residents prefer this kind of stuff and why Carmel forever was one of the fastest growing communities in the country. Things to ponder on a Monday.

Agreed. I don’t believe Cathedral is effectively going to stop Spegal, you just have to limit him. Call me crazy, but I think this is a type of game where Cathedral prefers a shootout. I’m not convinced New Pal can match Cathedral big play for big play for 4 quarters. I think New Pal prefers this to be a ball control type game where Cathedral’s offense is off the field as much as possible.

The red zone stands are part of what football games are all about....kind of defining.   Chatard DOES that.....they did it to West Lafayette in the red zone Friday night.   How getting stuffed in the red zone several times makes a case for a “possible” resounding victory is a bit of a stretch.

You could also make the case if Chatard doesn’t completely give up the unpressured pitch-toss turnover first play of the half AND the onside kick after the score caused by the turnover it’s a completely different game with 14 immediate points off the board for Cathedral.  That turnover was critical....leading to 2 quick scores in a game that had been going Chatard’s way.

It’s all “ifs and buts”....God knows I don’t want to get into what I saw to be all the multiple, multiple phantom offsides calls that continually stalled Chatard drives (even though the WHMB TV 40 announcers certainly had no problem commenting on not being able to see them).

That’s the problem of recasting the game.....by either side.  We can all do it.  The result is we take nothing away from the game.....and, frankly, diminish it.

That said, I’m done here....got no dog in this hunt and don’t want to be a distraction.

Trust me I get it, it’s football, and high school football at that. But you can’t apply, “Chatard blows out Cathedral if they don’t turn it over 3 times” as Dmizers stated while completely not acknowledging that Cathedral botched 3 red zone attempts in the first half. That’s football and all elements of the game.

Cathedral won, Chatard put up a hell of a fight, and both are excellent football teams.

    King,

Your a good dude (strongly disagree with Temptation on this) but your quote in “Top 15 Regardless of Class (Mid-Season)” on September 24 was:

”Pains me to do it but I think you guys have a great team and were probably the better team in defeat a few weeks ago.  Outside a blown coverage on 3rd and 22 that resulted in an 88 yard TD pass then another long run to seal the game (2 plays accounted for more than half of Cathedral’s output for the game), you guys dominated the LOS despite being outweighed 40-50 lbs a man.  Was the only time this year I’ve seen Cathedral struggle to move the ball and that’s with playing X and Elder on the road where the Irish moved the ball at will.”

Those were your words then....arguably, they might not be mutually exclusive from your most recent comments BUT they certainly have a different tone and would seem a recasting of the game.

I left that game thinking the same as your comments on September 23.  Now, some (hopefully not you....hopefully) are trying to TOTALLY recast that game.  Still, a loss is a loss.  I’m accepting of that, but I am not cool with how that game actually played out being rewritten by some lunatic Troll.

I am not saying that Calpreps/MaxPreps and Sagarin are the be all and end all but they are probably better than the Cathedral Troll you seem to be lining up beside.

Right now (11/10/19), CALPREPS has the top 10 ALL CLASSES in Indiana as the following:

    1. Cathedral (#73 Nationally)

    2. Chatard (#103 Nationally)

    3. Avon (#126 Nationally)

    4. New Palestine (#159 Nationally)

    5. Carmel (#167 Nationally)

Cathedral’s biggest win against a nationally ranked team this years wasn’t Trinity (#153 Nationally) or Center Grove (#316 Nationally).

It was against #103 Chatard.  It was a close hard fought game.

There is one thing it ABSOLUTELY wasn’t - a dominating win by Cathedral.

    Just the opposite.

If New Pal wins then my guess is CalPreps is in for a big shake up and no doubt New Pal will vault to No. 1 in Indiana.

Right now, SAGARIN has the Top 10 ALL CLASSES in Indiana as the following :

    1. Avon 102.92

    2. Brownsburg 100.84

    3. Carmel 100.48

    4. Bishop Chatard 98.17 (No. 4 Predictor as well)

    5. Warren Central 97.45

    6. New Palestine 96.41

    7. Indianapolis Cathedral 96.38

    8. Center Grove 96.05

    9. Ben Davis 95.71

    10. HSE  94.62

All these teams are within a hair of one another.  Anybody wins on any given day.

It’s tiresome for me (and really EVERYBODY) to hear Cathedral chest thumping.....not that the rest of us are unused to it.  Again, not necessarily accusing you of it but it seems to feel that you are going that way.  If one of the few reasonable folks from Cathedral is good with a troll in your midst, then the idiots will take over on this thread.

Not that I care that much....it’s your guys thread.

Still, some advice, if people are going to talk about this upcoming game realistically then it would be best if history is not rewritten regarding prior games.

My post wasn’t meant to disparage Chatard, it was meant to defend this notion that Cathedral was lucky to beat Chatard if it weren’t for Chatard’s turnovers as stated by Dmizers. You could also very easily make that case that Cathedral wins going away had they executed in the red zone.

I still stand by what I posted earlier in September; it was a very hard fought game between the two north side Catholics.

Sorry, Cathedral had 26 more total yards, everything else I said was accurate sure looks like a potential blow out to me, by Chatard that is if the don't turn it over

You weren’t at the game. Cathedral botched a couple of red zone trips inside the 10 including a couple missed FGs. They scored 3 points on 3 red zone trips in the first half. 2/3 Chatard’s TO’s came late after Cathedral had the decided lead. Stop reading box scores, they only show numbers.

You said that no one stopped Cathedral’s offense all year, and I gave you an example of a team that limited the offense’s ability to drive the ball. That wasn’t me saying that Cathedral didn’t win...

I’d say Cathedral stopped themselves more so than Center Grove stopped them. 100+ penalty yards and 2 dropped TD’s and game probably isn’t as close as the score indicates. Either way, I’d put Cathedral’s offense up against any teams in the state.

Believe me, this team takes nothing for granted!  They play hard every night, I know because I've seen every game.  They may not play well every night but the effort is never missing.  And I realize that New Pal is good, and playing at home.  The Irish have been in a lot of these games through the years, and they don't always turn out like we'd like them too, like 2009 Reitz Bowl.

    I was talking about fans...

The Arlington field was in good shape and was a bit churned up at the end of the game.

Another disappointing Cathedral crowd tonight.  The weather was not that bad as there was no win.  The 8th week at Brebeuf Jesuit was much more uncomfortable than tonight.  Irish fans need to get out and watch these young men!

Unfortunately I think Cathedral takes these types of games for granted, and yes I’m part of the problem. I will say this, I think this NP-CHS game is the most anticipated game since CHS-Reitz round 3 in 2010. Hopefully it’s the same outcome, but NP is a very good team.

You realize the HCC was 5-2 against the MIC this year, right? Of those 5 wins, they included:

Avon beating one of your champs (BD) 41-17

Fishers Beating one of your champs (NC) 26-0

Brownsburg beating one of your champs (NC) 29-25

    HSE beat LC 24-20

    Zionsville beat Pike 17-7

    Your two wins were:

LC (one of your champs) beating the HCC's 5th best team, HSE, 17-16

Carmel beating Noblesville (by a million)

To say the MIC is just sooooo good and that's the reason for all the "L' within the conference.....is bonkers.

What’s bonkers is the MIC’s dominance

    @Temptation where you at?

I like that it's at New Pal.   I've seen a couple Irish games and listening to tonight's it's very similar.  Lots of big plays but against good defenses they struggle a bit to move the ball.  It will be interesting to see how New Pal defends them.  And can Cathedral make the Dragons throw it and limit Spegal. Should be an instant classic.

Struggled to move the ball? Against who?

They hung 600 yards on St. Xavier and moved the ball up and down the field at Elder. Center Grove wasn’t their greatest game, but most of their drives stalled due to penalties. If there’s on Achilles heel with this Cathedral team it’s penalties. They aren’t the most discipline team.

Yes, no 2 ways about it. IU is the better team this year, and rivalry game or not, you need to put on your big boy panties and perform.  Purdue is weak this year. Talk about getting over the hump, not beating a weaker Boiler team takes us backwards again. = “underperforming season”

It would be disappointing but not under-performing. IU is in uncharted waters right now in a place they haven't been in almost 30 years.

They were?  Gee Wally, go figure.  Nice to have that information.   Forget about Cindy.  What I can't wrap my mind around is:  if you want to push being like Ohio, aren't there "points" a team has to be awarded to qualify for the tournament?  Aren't those points won from conference wins?  So would a conference win in the CIC, or HC would carry more weight than a win by a team in the Patoka Lake Conference or the White River Conference?   How do you make those equitable?  (Notice I did NOT use the word "fair"?)  Or is a conference win just a conference win in general?  And are teams awarded points for "good" losses too?   If we are talking conferences, again I have to ask, "what about independents"?  Or would a team like Cathedral just be invited because of their SOS?  OH wait, you did mention win/loss and SOS didn't you?  So why not just use the Sags to rank all 320 teams and then have a cutoff at a certain number?   Don't even mess with having classes any more.  Just take the top 160 or whatever and place them in divisions (I am being serious for suggesting it).  I would think that would make things more equitable/interesting having teams regardless of enrollment, but closer in the Sag ratings, play each other in the tournament.  Yes, more equitable.  Right now the current Sags show that Lewis-Cass is ranked 32nd in the state rankings.  For example, let's say the top 32 teams are division one.  In that example, Lewis-Cass would be the last team in Division one.  Their Sag ranking says they would play against mostly 6A teams.  If they are so good to be ranked so high, then isn't that who they should be playing in the tournament?  Their tournament competition should match who they play during the season, no?

    You got way sidetracked.

Revise a rating system that includes W-L, opponent W-L, SOS and opponent SOS, add a tenth regular season game, and eliminate half the field at the conclusion of the regular season. Take the 16 most northern team 1-4A) and the 16 most southern teams (1-4A) and seed them accordingly.

I disagree. California is a top 5 recruiting ground and USC is the "it" program, especially to So Cal kids. I would wager Washington and Oregon's recruiting sucesses in Cali wouldn't come to an end, but would suffer if Meyer was leading USC. Plus, like Ohio State, USC can recruit nationally. The Chargers are failing miserably in LA while the Rams have a decent following, but USC will always be LA's football team.

USC is a football blue blood. It's a much better job than Florida State.

Because if you support high school football, you just don't support the largest classes.

The IHSAA is showing favoritism to the larger classes by allowing this dichotomy to exist.

The IHSAA created the 6th class to promote competitive balance. Unfortunately it split one class in half thus making one less tourney game possible causing the subsequent bye. Class 5A and 6A not playing a week 10 has ZERO bearing on class 1A-4A. It's not like a 5A school has a week off to prepare for a 4A school in the playoffs, each team is at the same advantage/disadvantage. This is a non-issue.

Why do we have a system where the biggest and wealthiest schools get a free week off to rest up and heal and prepare and go on vacation, and our smaller more urban schools are thrown directly into the post season fire without the same privileges?

MIC schools go 4 deep at every position and have the best equipment and medical support money can buy.  Do they need a week off more than a rural school with barely a 2 deep roster that probably has to take a long road trip for a first round sectional game?

Why is that relevant to schools 1A-4A?

  16. 12 minutes ago, DanteEstonia said:

An extra game is a special privilege. More playing and practice time.

They're playing the same amount of games under DT's proposal?

Week 10 for schools in Class 1A-4A is the first round of sectionals. Current week 10 for schools in 5A-6A is a bye.

If you forced schools 5A-6A to play a 10th regular season game, they would be playing the same amount of games in the same given time frame. Your argument makes ZERO sense.
