    If you say so...

Why would they not? Roncalli HATES Cathedral. Roncalli hated Cathedral so much that at one point several years back, they tried to dictate where Cathedral got their kids ie "X amount of football roster must be catholic" while also telling Cathedral to stay out of the south deanery. When Cathedral laughed in their face, they took their ball and went home and stopped playing them. Cowards.

Which bets the question is Penix more a product of the system or should he be in the conversation with Maye and Williams for which QB goes first. I've heard some analysts suggest Williams has some red flags in terms of how he plays against good defenses.

He's got unbelievable talent and arm strength. His game has taken off since being in DeBoer's system.

Biggest knock in Penix is always going to be his prior injuries. Penix suffered season ending injuries all 4 years at IU. Can obviously fault IU for lack of line protection but two of them have come on non-contact ACL injuries and a broken clavicle sneaking it in from the 1 yard for a TD. It is what it is at this point. I just don't know if a GM can afford to leverage a first round pick on Penix, let alone a top 5 pick given his past. But he certainly has all the makings of being a massive steal for somebody and has all the tools to make it at the level.

Indy Tech!  Tech lost to Richmond 19-0, and Richmond was the only team Tech beat last year.  I think this is as bad as it can get at Tech.  They are the worst team in 6a and I don't think they can beat anyone in 5a.  Tech plays Harrison (WL) this week.  Oh My!

Per Sagarin, Tech would lose to about 80% of teams regardless of class. 5A and 6A account for 20% of all teams.

Embarrassing lack of leadership at the IPS level.

You dropped IU to the bottom with their impressive win over Akron in 4 OT's?  Who cares if Akron had a centered approx 31 yd FG to win the game at the end of regulation and missed????

Jo Jo the Circus Boy celebrated like they had won the Rose Bowl.....

Shame on me for thinking IU may have turned a corner after a strong 2nd half offensive showing against Louisville. Saturday night was pathetic. Walt Bell should have been fired yesterday but honestly don't know who they'd have call plays?

The Tom Allen era can't end soon enough.

  5. I think it's highly likely PSU/UM/OSU all hold serve at home meaning those 3 teams all finish with 1 conference loss given the way the schedule plays out. How does the tiebreaker work in that scenario?

There might be multiple B10/PAC 12 teams left out of the playoff assuming Texas and FSU go undefeated which their schedules seem to dictate they will.

Could this be the year the SEC doesn't send a team period? I think the SEC is massively overrated. Georgia not running the table could end their bid.

That is what a coach said on fox post game coverage that no one on sideline can spot a shortage from field level near goal line

Somebody from OSU sure as hell spotted it. They ran right where the missing defensive lineman should have been.

And apparently he is unaware they only had 10 the play before.

All coming out of a timeout.

OSU grounded the ball on 1st and G to stop the clock, ND called their last TO and broke the huddle with 10 men. I realize Freeman is a nice guy who most want to see succeed but that’s absolutely inexcusable.

OSU remains a finesse squad (play action from the 2 yard line on 4th down in the first half and a jet sweep on 4th and 1 late in the fourth) and their run D remains pourous.

Won’t excuse OSU short yardage play calling because it’s a 2 score win if they execute, but their defense was on the field for what felt like the entire 2H. Henderson busted one early and I’m not sure they got another first down until the last drive. Believe I saw a stat at one point where ND had run 30 2nd half plays to OSU’s 7 and had better than a 3:1 TOP ratio.

In that spot, you run his ass onto the field. I don’t care if it is a penalty or not, you have GOT to have 11. So you give them a yard. You have stopped the, before in short yardage.

    Exactly. You’re on the 1, it’s a 6 inch penalty.

Again, it's not up to the head coach to count the players on the field. I'm pretty sure I'm handing that off to someone else. I'm sure he'll get that worked out. But I'm not firing him over it.................geeesh.

Again, I haven’t said he needs to be fired, but if you think the responsibility of having 11 men on the field lies anywhere but with the head coach you’ve lost your mind.

By the way, he literally acknowledged he knew he didn’t have enough guys on the field.

I see the Freeman hire no differently than the Day hire. It's a risk for sure. But sometimes the risk is worth the reward. I think Freeman will be fine. Irish fans can only hope that Freeman will be more than a "get to the playoffs and get thumped" kind of a coach than Day is.

He needs to get there first lol. Guarantee you Day has never trotted out 10 players to defend 2nd and 3rd and Goal from the 1 yard line with the game on the line.

How do you defend that as a Notre Dame fan?

  12. 8 minutes ago, BTF said:

Is it the head coach's responsibility to count the players every time they take the field. Isn't that why you hire a staff? Can't do everything yourself.

We can play armchair quarterback all we want. Sure, I was hoping for more running and winding down the clock on that last possession, but I also get that they were looking for another first down so that they could put the game away. Is "run when your opponent expecting pass and pass when your opponent is expecting run" an off the wall philosophy?

Let's not call for coach Freeman's head, he's still a young head coach, and a smart one at that. He'll have every bit of success at Notre Dame that Ryan Day has had at Ohio State. Maybe more. I'd bet Freeman gets a championship before Day does.

Speaking of Ryan Day. Ohio State against the world? Well, they've pretty much made their own bed with the arrogance of their fan base and everything associated with the university.

I’m not calling for anyone’s head, just simply saying this was the fear when you hire somebody who doesn’t know what they’re doing.

  13. Coaching malpractice by Freeman. It’s exactly why so many people questioned his hire. Forget the last 2 plays where they only had 10 players on the field, it doesn’t even get to that point if ND doesn’t throw the ball and a subsequent incompletion on 2nd down the drive before. Remember, OSU was called for intentional grounding with 15 seconds left and was able to call a TO they shouldn’t have had to prevent a 10 second runoff. They ended up running 4 more plays instead of snapping the ball at the 20 with 5 seconds left.

So to try and bring this full circle, in retrospect  should the awatrd have gone to a lineman in any of those years?

Shannon and Banks were the only Mr. Football winners on that list. Robertson himself was a defensive lineman, believe Brandon Peters won it that year who I certainly don't have any qualms with. If Blake Fisher didn't win Mr. Football tough for me seeing any future lineman winning.

In no particular order…from my era (late 90s on)…

    James Aldridge - Merrillville

    James Banks - Ben Davis

    Otis Shannon - Cathedral

    Jerimy Finch - Warren Central

Austin Robertson - Fort Wayne Wayne

Guys I thought were destined for long NFL careers who never panned out for one reason or another.

One is not like the other in that list. All those guys with the exception of Shannon were afforded scholarships to major D1 programs.

Still a phenomenal list of high school players regardless.
