So you are saying the folks behind the MIC public statement have no credibility and are full of BS?

I don't know about no credibility, but yes, lost a ton of credibility. And yes it's total BS to claim that the MIC isn't athletically motivated. It's an athletic conference for crying out loud, it's why it exists.

The MIC didn't want to get caught with their pants at their ankles when Carmel and CG inevitably bolted, so they acted and dressed up a bunch of BS to dance around the fact that Carmel and Center Grove were no longer being challenged athletically in their current conference. I don't want to hear this was an academic move either because Carmel and Center Grove (along with North Central) are by far and away the best academic schools in the MIC.

So you believe talented young Mr. Curry's dream of an NFL career (if that is indeed his dream) would have been greatly diminished had he chosen the likes of a Notre Dame or Purdue over Ohio State?

Don't believe Notre Dame ever offered Curry.

Mr. Football can't be considered a "best player" award if you're not going to consider the kids choosing to play college football out of state.

If you're good enough to play at Alabama and Ohio State, you're considered one of the best players in the country.

Again, if grown-ups were in charge in the MIC at least they would have handled the loss with some grace.  I find it ironic that those administering sports tell the players to accept a loss with grace and class yet act like petulant 8 year olds when things don’t go their way = as demonstrated by that silly rant of a press release.

It just confirms my worst fears as regards who is running our public schools - and public institutions in general.

    Correct.

This is nothing more than sour grapes. The MIC can rant and rave however they want, but this is going to hurt their athletic programs in the long run, especially in the two sports they still have a somewhat fighting chance in; football and basketball. With open-enrollment, I wouldn't be shocked to see more and more township kids leave the county to play in a much higher profile conference. Ben Davis and Warren will be hit the hardest in my opinion as if they weren't already.

I think MIC admins saw this as an opportunity to "reset" the core mission and purpose for the conference.  It sounded like CG and CA were not participating in many of the academic initiatives that the conference was pushing.

    Academic initiatives? Can you clarify?

And what exactly is the core mission and purpose of an athletic conference?

Like I said FBK, I think this is a win-win-win for everyone.  The MIC does not care about the "best in the midwest" crap any longer.  They made that crystal clear in their public statement.  They are ceding that mantle to The HCC.  Now the HCC needs to close the deal.  Im looking forward to seeing how the New MIC breaks out.  I hope that Tech is one of the schools selected (and all other IPS drop football) .  I think it would rejuvenate the efforts of IPS to improve their athletic programs and result in some fresh new investments.  I like DC also but they are probably too small.  A wildcard could be Columbus North.

What is the MIC supposed to say when their two breadwinners are looking to abandon ship? To say the MIC doesn't care about their athletic image is facetious at best. They care, there was just nothing they could do.

Any Indiana Mr. Football candidate who chooses to play at an out of state college/university should automatically be disqualified for winning this prestigious award.

Same goes for Mr. and Ms. Basketball.

A kid good enough to play at OSU or Alabama should be excluded from the award that "supposedly" crowns the state's best player? And you wonder why so many people think the award is a joke to begin with.

How do you know who leaked what??  You speculate and somehow this makes it truth?  Do you have any source besides a message board?? 😝

You teach someone a lesson by acting like a scorned middle schooler?

If I go back in the archives, would I find any past posts from DT about the HCC becoming the future power conference? Or am I confusing you?  (I may be)

Two years ago DT ascribed the Center Grove and Carmel's move to the HCC for the EXACT reason it is happening. This is why you can't take anything he says seriously. He doesn't believe a single word he says. It's all for show.

Its been in the news for months.

Link? Monday was the first time I've ever seen Carmel and Center Grove publicly linked to the HCC in any kind of news publication. And that was after they were voted out of the MIC.

Select GID members leaked inside infoirmation.  You cant let that happen when you are supposedly looking for a new conference home.

Are you insinuating the MIC voted out Carmel and Center Grove based on dialogue on an internet message board where 99.9% of the users are anonymous? Perhaps that's why children are running the conference that is now about to fall into large irrelevancy.

CG and CA were arrogant and dumb enough to think that they could do this out in the open with no ramifications. Hopefully they have a both learned a lesson that their hubris has ultimately lessened their collective negotiating strength and weakened their position.

Carmel and Center Grove are the two largest and highest athletic profiles in the state. They will be fine.

From 2008 to 2019 Tri High school had 1 winning season including 4 (0-10) seasons. If they would have just given up and cut the program they never would have made the semi-state run they just made. And I can tell you that those kids during that decade would say that football enriched their high school experiences regardless of the record. But since Tri isn't in Indianapolis or the region they don't exist in (the artist formerly known as) DT's mind so they must contract. This whole contraction crap gets old. If the money spent on football was really hurting these systems, they would cut them.

You're preaching to the choir unfortunately.

DT could poll all 300 some head coaches in the state of Indiana and every single one of them would give a similar that Coach Peebles of Cathedral gave during his interview with DT, "I would never support such an idea".

Very evasive.  I wouldn't put any credence into that.  So basically its non information that has no relevance to the discussion.  Thanks

This is a highly sensitive subject and we need to challenge those who claim to have inside information.  It could all be a hoax for all we know.

    Lol.

I’m going to table this post for future reference.

Let's say the HCC goes ahead and approves both CG & Carmel...and they decide to play a 9 game closed schedule.

How will the MIC programs schedule non-conference games? They'll need 4 non-con games to fill up their schedules. This seems like it'd be a major headache for these 6 programs.

Do they go after DAC schools, Penn, P/Ps, out of state opponents?

Since it's apparently not about athletics anymore, MIC shouldn't struggle finding two new replacements so long as they're willing to downgrade. Tech makes the most sense and then adding one of Perry/Southport/Decatur Central does as well. I don't think traveling 3+ hours to play a Duneland or NIC school is conducive to the MIC.

Kids can learn life lessons and make life long relationships with or without football.  Football players dont learn any more life lessons or make better long standing relationships than do soccer players, chess club members or band members.  Or maybe you have some hard statistical data you would like to share on that?

That decision should be left to the community and school administrators, not some blowhard on the GID.

I see The HCC taking a pass on Carmel, if Carmel has even applied.  Why would The HCC want to take on The MICs biggest headache, which is Carmel's massive trophy case.  Carmel will dominate every sport in The HCC hat it already dominates in The MIC.  Westfield has proven that it can go toe to toe with CG, so the Trojans will be voted in.  They fit the size profile much better than Carmel.

This is why I can’t take anything you say seriously. For years you’ve been the resident conference realignment expert and have been ascribing Carmel’s inevitable move from the MIC to the HCC citing SES factors, geographical ties, and school profiles. Now you’re balking at the idea for the HCC extending an invitation to Carmel? What gives? You’re so contrite in playing contrarian that you expose yourself as the biggest hypocrite on this board.

The HCC would be clinically insane not to offer the states largest and most visible athletic profile an invitation.

Take away CG and CA 18 out of 20 conf championships and you have a level playing field and much better competitive balance.  Again, read the MICs charter message.  They are not about sports.  Championships are not the objective.  The "Best in the Midwest" was a media creation.  The MIC just went along with it.

What’s an athletic conference who just kicked out the two best athletic programs in the state supposed to say?

  15. 20 minutes ago, HHF said:

The MIC will be better off and more balanced without the two culturally misaligned schools going forward.

Better off in what regard? Competing for state titles? Not only will Center Grove and Carmel likely never voluntarily schedule a MIC school again, the mercy rule will be in the back of everyone's mind if/when it's applicable.

  16. 20 minutes ago, HHF said:

They are already gone.  Do you think the Big 12 could have pulled OU and TX back into the fold?  Nope.  When you are gone, you are gone.  Good riddance.  Dont let the door hit you on the backside on the way out.

    LOL.

They're gone because they were voted OUT.

Big 12 stands a much better chance of getting OU and Texas back than the MIC does getting CG and Carmel back. One set of schools voluntarily left, the other set was told to leave.

    Huge difference.

  17. 20 minutes ago, HHF said:

Its impossible for CA or CG to look sympathetic.  You should know that.  They are elitist and rich beyond any measure as compared to every other school in the state.  Nobody will be crying for them.  Next to Cathedral, they are the two most unsympathetic entities in high school sports in Indiana.

Center Grove and Carmel will be fine. That I'm sure.

  18. 21 minutes ago, HHF said:

CG and CA should have been more discreet.  If OU and Texas could secretly pull off a move from the B12 to The SEC, surely these two highschools could have done the same thing and avoided this mess.

Notice how the B12 didn't throw their arms in the air and unanimously vote Texas and Oklahoma out? Because the B12 knows those two universities aren't replaceable and if something with the SEC backfired they'd still have them as members.

The MIC burned that bridge and to my knowledge Center Grove and Carmel haven't been accepted as members to another conference as it stands.

Conference titles are simply unattainable in over a dozen sports.  Still a tough sell.

    I see your point though.

It's probably backwords thinking, but I still think most athletic decisions are rooted by the two main revenue sports which are Football and Men's basketball. Until today, the MIC was both the best basketball and football conference in the state. That will surely change.

If you owned a company and your two strongest salesmen were talking about joining your top competitor, what would you do?

Do everything in my power to get them to stay just as any other business owner would?

Not going to let two (in this case) unreplaceable employees leave without putting up a fight.
